What are the lyrics called at the start of the song that no one even knows they exist. Is it a soliloquy?

Its a bit of a puzzle, it is the verse melody from the original song but with different lyrics. Most people nowadays are only familiar with "After you've gone....." which is actually the chorus and do not realise it starts with the verse.
