Aftermarket Stereo Install - Touch Screen Bluetooth Backup Camera - Ram 1500

Finally installed an aftermarket stereo into my 2016 Ram 1500. This model comes with a touch screen, bluetooth, dvd and more. This install required cutting a piece of metal out of the dash as well as splicing many wires. To access the factory camera I had to run a wire across the dash to the passenger side and tap into the factory harness. I used a third party installation kit to speed things up as well as make it easier to revert back to factory if necessary.

This is dope, appreciate the video. I haven’t done it yet, but I am upgrading my 5 inch uConnect to a Sony XAV with CarPlay and I had no clue how to make factory back up work with an aftermarket radio. There isn’t many videos so good stuff thank you.

Yeah there really isn't alot of info on how to tap into the factory camera but this works.

So Question where did you get the dash kit and wires from? I went to Crutchfield and there isn’t a Ram option for 2016. I’m trying to help a buddy out with his truck and can’t find any kits for it.

120956518B is the face plate and 120LCHRC01 is the wiring adapter I got. I also got 12040EU55 for the antenna.

Was green or green/red the power for the backup camera? Which color is for video and power on the harness by door? You didn’t specify which wire needed to go to what on the radio.

I'm not sure, I tapped into both wires and ran them to the dash then connected them to the camera inputs on the deck then waited to test the camera function on the deck before bolting it in. If it didn't work I would switch the connections.

I have a Dual DMCPA70BT Radio do you think it would work in my 2016 Ram 1500 and trying to find the adaptor for my truck is hard to find. But i have the same OEM radio you do.

It should. The tricky part is if you have steering wheel controls or want the console USB to work with the radio.

If you buy the adapter for chrysler vehicles it plugs right in to the existing radio harness and the adapter wires are colour coded to match aftermarket radios. So you just match the colors at that point red-red Green-green etc

I just tried it today and no, the USB in the center console is not connected to the head unit but it does have power to charge. I'm not sure it if ever was connected from the factory though, I don't think I ever used it other than to charge. The aux port does work. And the USB on the head unit works.

I have a 4th gen 2018 Ram 2500 Tradesman. You think mine has that same wire for the reverse hot?

@@nothandsomebuthandy I don't get why you need two wires. All that is required is one 12v trigger wire and the yellow RCA on the head unit.

Sorry I misunderstood your first question about the reverse hot, I thought you were talking about the signal wire on the reverse camera. The wires I ran through the dash and spliced in the right side panel are the reverse camera signal and ground (which connect to the yellow rca). The reverse signal wire (to turn on the camera) is included in the adapter harness.

Here's what I have in my install document: Reverse (+)¹ Body Control Module under driver’s dash, white 48-pin plug (F), pin 41 - white/tan. Does that sound like the wire colour/pin location you used?

Yes it is, but it's not fantastic. I find I often have to manually turn the Bluetooth back on to connect to my phone. And I've had an occasional issue where if I start my truck and put it in reverse before the stereo has a chance to completely boot up the radio presets and sometimes the clock will reset. I have contacted Boss about the issue and have an open support ticket but have not sent it back yet as it doesn't happen very often.

Sorry, it was really cold and there's really not much to see in those tight quarters, just two wires to splice. I think I mentioned the wire colours though.

I just have factory speakers, I don't find it sounds any different. I got it mostly for the Bluetooth and DVD

Ok fair enough, I come from a day when aftermarket was the norm back in the 80s. I was interested in the functionality and sound of todays aftermarket. Also how difficult it is to install with todays dashboards. Thanks for the reply.
