I believe Fortuna is a Striker 44' they are made of aluminum. They are tough and well-built yachts. SEAFOOD from Caddy Shack was a Striker.

Superb video. Really well done Bryan. Your report is better than those from the major networks actually. Sharing this to my Facebook page.

This proves the point that you are not safe in boatyards and marinas. If you prepare properly you can save your boat. I have survived numerous Florida hurricanes on my boat(Charley and Bob) and behind my house tending to her( she weighs 15 tons). She is still unscathed, but it is due to me being there 100% of the time to adjust lines , cross tie anchors etc. Of course not everyone has a relatively safe place to keep their boat- but if you don’t , she needs to be moved. Just a matter of time before all my best efforts fail- so moving boat to Maine before next season!!

Playing the numbers game you should be in the clear. What’s the chance of us getting hit with another massive storm? lol
@scottreich1207Ай бұрын
We had 9ish feet of surge in NJ during Sandy. If we had left our boats at the yard, they'd be gone. Being present to adjust lines and anchors is the only reason we still have them. Even our worst case plan (driving our largest aground in a shallow marsh and using multiple anchors) would have been enough to total the her...and our insurance won't cover any damage the boat causes to someone else's property. Glad to hear yours is ok.

I've seen a review of 'Lady G.', and 'Fortuna'. Both are nice boats. It's sad to see so much damage, but with the 'tidal surges' it could've been so much worse. Thanks for the walk around.

I have a 45ft boat that was at PGI marina during Ian. By pure luck, it was facing directly into the wind and no damage. The other boats on the hard fell over like dominoes.

Yes Milton could carry Ian’s jock strap.

Usually by title search, now most of these boats are stripped and recycled.

Laishley Park floating docks show no damage, where is the marina you keep referring to as "gone". Other than along the far seawall where boats were not on floating docks, where are the boats you are showing with significant damage?
@johnchance1959Ай бұрын
i figured out the location of the other marina. It is just a little east of the city marina. I took a boat there twenty years ago, never started the work, so I simply took it home. But I recognized the building and the address on the sign confirmed.

The floating docks aren’t as bad as the stationary docks but they are damaged bad as well.

would it make more sense to just moor those big boats in the bay during hurricanes?
@HarborYachtToursАй бұрын
The problem is the anchors aren’t going to stick, but yes, if you can get them into a small bay tide off to the mangroves, you’ll be a lot safer

After Ian, all the local boats here went to a cow pasture by Burnt Sore Marina. There was a guard in a trailer posted keeping watch. I dont pass there much so dont know what their fate is/was.

Boat owners in hurricane areas should lift their boats off to land and park it sideways and secured with cables across the boat like that house in Tampa! At least it cant move that much and damage limited!

What’s crazy is the positioning of that Hatteras prior to the incoming storm. The owner should have the bow face into the wind. I see boats with the stern nosed into the wind and therefore into the incoming water. Dumb.

As hurricane's approach & pass, wind changes from different directions.
