I think both parts play a great and EQUAL role in all logical and creative endeavors.. An inventor, for example, has to use his intuition (creative side) to come up with some invention. But they also have to use mathematical tools (logical sides) to draw conclusions, put into practical applications, et cetera.....
@shithawk89
@shithawk89 5 жыл бұрын
The intuition comes from the gut brain (a couple million neurons down there) I think the main point is that it isn't a clear division in terms of the physical brain. People think the left and right hemispheres of their brains are different, they think handedness corresponds to personal traits... a lot of bad information parading as common knowledge.

Well it seems you're wrong. They did disproved the myth, as calling an artist "right brain" or a mathematician "left brain" is not representative of how they use their brains at all. The two sides are used to perform any task, be it counting or painting. That means an artist isn't "right brain", nor does it have anything to do with their character traits, like being creative or wild. There isn't a stronger brain activity on one side as they are simply not made to dominate or be submissive to the other like, for example, your hands. Calling someone someone "right brain" doesn't mean anything, as the only difference we currently know between the two is that they handle different things to complete a single task. For example, both will work together to make you able to understand what you're seeing, but you don't use one side more to do that. If you wanted to stick a side to a certain task, then I guess there are some cases where could. For example, if you only wanted to write random words with no context, you would use one side more to exactly do this. But at the same time, they are doing so many different tasks, like understanding what you see, that a balance will be reached overall. Even if you were just thinking about the grammar of random words with no context, I don't think you could say you're using one side more, since your brain still needs to use it's memory and choose which words it's picking. Anyways, they actually did a good job a debunking the myth, you can't call someone a "right brain" or "left brain" to represent anything, nor can you assume you're using one side of the brain more then the other for any given tasks because there are too many factors to consider.
@KillianWolf
@KillianWolf 4 жыл бұрын
@@boi6929 Actually, historically, it hasn't been said that right-brained thinkers are "wild," so in that, this video jumped to an assumption. The theory does actually represent that we all use both sides of our brain, but one hemisphere, depending on how our spine developed in the womb, will be more dominant. Just how we use our left hand or right hand to write- doesn't mean we cannot use the other hand at all. It only means that we use the more dominant hand to write. Each hemisphere controls different functions, and the functions we lean more towards is what makes us "right-brained" or "left-brained" but the theory does not actually state that "that is all you use." It also states that a person can use close to an equal percentage of both, so the theory isn't so black and white. We can also develop the side we don't use as much.

Actually no, it does disprove that. No one has a preference for one side of their brain. Everyone uses both sides in their daily life. Also, while both sides perform different tasks, the idea that one is creative and the other is logical is nonsense

I have noticed that another myth is left and right handedness. Truthfully, anybody can teach themself to use both hands equally. It is the schools that force you to choose a hand and stay with it. I never chose a hand and stayed with it. I remember the teachers hitting my hands with a ruler telling me to choose a hand and stay with it. I told one of the teachers that just because I could do something she could not do does not mean she had to hit me. That earned me a visit to the principal's office. I then told the principal about being hit with a ruler by teachers for not picking a hand. Something must have happened because I was never hit with a ruler on my hands again. Just to anger the main teacher that used to hit me, I would sometimes draw with one hand and colour with the other to get her angry. Today, I still seemlessly switch between my hands. Why use only one? We have two. Anybody can de elope both hands to function the same. If an idiot like me can do it, anybody can.
@noirling1
@noirling1 5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have intentionally NOT been trained to use one hand, so what about the rest of us? I too am partially ambidextrous. But it's a bit different for me, as I favor different things in different hands. i.e. I do all my writing/drawing with my right hand (trained into me by schooling), but I throw left handed and am a southpaw fighter. I also eat left handed.

Misleading title and general message? The common idea can be set up hierarchically like this: Primary: "Most people can be identified as left brained or right brained." Secondary: "The right hemisphere is literally and biologically in charge of all the holistic functions, while the left hemisphere is literally and biologically in charge of all the specific functions". This video has indeed proven that the secondary part of the common idea is a myth, but has at the same time only proven the validity of the primary part further. The hemispheres are in fact different and do have different roles, as explained at 3:34: "In general, the right hemisphere looks at things more holistically, meaning it takes in the bigger picture, while the left takes in the fine print.". Therefore, if I were to call a mathematician left brained, I would be correct in a more practical and holistic sense. By saying 'most mathematicians are left brained' I have not necessarily implied that they literally and biologically uses their left brain more, that's just a scientific assumption. I could just as well implied that both of their hemispheres work proportionally together, but that most of their cognitive processes originate from their left hemisphere (which could be the case). The title of this video could just as well be: "Left Brain Right Brain is primarily TRUE, but a common related belief is a MYTH." Comments are appreciated.
@fincawthera3265

Agree completely. They asserted that it was a myth, then went on to validate the myth they initially debunked! (Clickbait) There is a clear difference between the functions of the two hemispheres. The location of cognition depends firstly on the situation (eg. math problem, or music creation) and secondly, how developed the different sides are for the individual. One can train to be more in touch with certain parts of the brain. We as a species have become distracted. We need to be more in tune with our intuition. I recommend "You are Two" by CPG Grey. And also strongly recommed "Innsæi" on Netflix.

Dude, you're hella wrong because it is not left brain vs right brain. This is not a video talking about slang language where you say he's left brained but really meant he is using all of it just detail specific. The video explains how both sides of the brain work in unison and produce the same function and it is merely a sense of reasoning that is divided. However it is really your body that suffers. Not your personality. You're so developed, ur mind is already stable at that point.
@boi6929
@boi6929 4 жыл бұрын
You say making a scientific assumption on a scientific is wrong and that really confuses me about what you mean. Also, no, you can't call a mathematician a "left brain", since their use of the word holistically was about how one understand what's he's seeing and didn't really refer to other tasks. To do maths, you need each side of the brain, I'm pretty sure they explained that. Even if one of the tasks you're doing is requiring more power from one side, the total amount of tasks happening at the same time is unknown as it is far too high. Saying someone is "left brain" doesn't mean anything, and studies have shown no difference in brain power use on each side even while one is accomplishing a certain task.

my cousin was in a car wreck when she was 2 or 3 and as a result her head was split open and lost in the wreckage. The doctors told our family she would never walk, talk, or have any resemblance of a normal child. She was about 6 years older then me so as a child I knew her and my uncle were in accident because no one ever talked about it for more then a word or two. After I graduated from High School I was having a garage sale and my cousin was there with us visiting. A customer was talking with my dad and he called my cousin to come outside. This would be the first time I ever heard the miracle that happened. The man talking to my dad was a doctor who was a brain surgeon and he was telling my dad about a local child he had to do emergency surgery on a few decades before. My dad realized he was talking about my cousin and called her out to meet him. The doctor told us the horrific reality of that night and referred to her (only knowing she survived) as the miracle child. He said the EMT's could not recover the parts of our brains that control breathing,walking, and talking. But my cousin graduated high school and had a normal life without me ever seeing any evidence that there was something wrong.

It's just like politics; they stereotypically state that somebody is either left or right, when most people incorporate a mixture of both political spheres. Dealing with subject matter in a more pragmatic/versatile dynamic. If you've been divided into 2 different segments then you've become "blindsided" and hence you're much more easily controlled by external forces who do see the whole picture. It's not very intelligent to eliminate 50% of your thinking capacity, unless you wish to see yourself as being forever incomplete ? The same for sexual identity; those who see themselves as being both male/female are likely to have a much healthier/holistic thinking capacity. Androgynous thinking makes you complete, hence you no longer need to leach energy from your partner, because you already incorporate both identities within yourself.

The Hemispherectomy is only possible if the child is under a certain age as the brain cells are not fixed yet and can still change their purpose. So as adults, the distinction is set. Areas are set.

I don’t FEEL that it’s a myth because when I think I feel energy in the left side of my head. My left side of my head feels dominant while my right side isn’t just there but it’s presence isn’t as strong as the left. But I guess that’s just the logical side thinking at that moment in that time right then because how else would I notice it lmao

in my opinion, we need both side of the brain to do something or everything. complete each other. if not, why do we have left and right brain? to compete each other? i dont think so.

By saying that it's myth, we are actually saying that Roger W. Sperry was an ill-informed doctor, because calling it myth is equal to disagree with Roger W. Sperry's all time efforts and studies. Roger W. Sperry didn't received the Nobel prize for a joke, he received it based on this ideology and studies of left & right brained concept. I'm thinking why the world always tends to spread fake information instead of helping each other without any kind of hypocrisy.

Great video! I have only one problem with it, and that's that they are 200 billion stars in our galaxy, so that's almost twice as many stars then neurons. Still pretty impressive tho.
