Life is usually not what job you have, what field you get into career-wise, how great your title becomes. Life is somewhere in between. The songs you sing, the runs you run, the kites you fly, the people you laugh with, the stories you hear, the tales you tell to inspire, the dreams you have at night, the pets you adopt, the plant you finally managed to keep alive, the dinner that finally tasted good, the feeling of hopefulness, of gratitude, of amazement. I’ve always had fun all through my life. Like camping nearly every month. I’ve travelled overseas to many countries, & tried many different things. I turn 60 tomorrow, looking back I’m glad I didn’t just wait till I retire to do things. I’ve met people through my life who think I’m wasting my money by travelling so much & going away for weekend trips & camping. I think they are the ones wasting their lives just working and saving all the time. Life is short, have some money put away for bills & emergencies. But always have fun along the way through life because none of us know how long we have to live!

the thing is, for me, living alone or maybe with some pets, and good headphones, and just a small, comfortable house near a lot of grass and trees, just a lot of nature, would be the peak of my life, people take it the wrong way when someone says live how you want, they usually go for your approach, travelling a lot and doing stuff like sky diving, thinking it's the only way to live, of course, you're probably very happy with what you did, it most likely was exactly what you wanted , and from your words it seems like so, but people think doing stuff like that will make them happy when in reality they can't even appreciate their hometown, so they go to places like japan, they look at a building and some peach blossoms and they think they saw everything there is to see when in reality they barely looked at the surface, and their hometown's maple trees would be beautiful to japanese people, what im trying to say in this bible i just realized i typed is, people think doing what you did is perfect for everyone, when in reality, only a couple of people in thousands really truly enjoy it, also, camping seems fun!

Good point, but that song is called "I'm Only Sleeping". An even more cosmic Beatle song can be found on the same album (Revolver) -- it's called "Tomorrow Never Knows": Turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream It is not dying, it is not dying Lay down all Thought, surrender to the Void It is shining, it is shining If you may see the meaning of within It is Being, it is Being That ignorance and hate they mourn the dead It is Believing, it is Believing That Love is all that Love is everyone This is knowing, this is knowing All plays the Game: "Existence" to the end Of the beginning, of the beginning, of the beginning... Or even "I Am The Walrus": I am He as you are He and you are me and we are all together. Even John Lennon backed off writing: I am Him as you are Him, and you are me...etc. I think "Elohim" originally meant "our Higher Selves"

Never do they stop to reflect on what this kind of parenting does to their kids. As was pointed out in schooloflife, this leads to an impression that love is no more deserved than the sum of ones achievements. They become desperate to please and impress others, and ultimately miserable when they don't recieve the admiration and love they feel that they have earned.

But I've never mooched off of anyone, never made a disturbance of myself, just sort of 'met the needs as they came'. Odd jobs here and there, and a sense of 'if I don't absolutely need it I won't buy it.' Forsaking a car and even taking the bus for simply walking to where I'm going. More time to think. It's not for everyone. Nor is it commendable or merit-worthy or anything like that. I simply meet these things as they come and don't worry about it in the mean time. As soon as you start overplanning and overbudgeting and falling into the manic race of things, money and its uses can become a terrible cage. I went to university on the government's dime. Life itself, yes, but one still does have to "make a living" do to food, clean water, elec, internet, shelter, etc not being free. The issue of learning how to survive or make a living is something that can be solved. From there, ethics would be introduced, as some ways which are illegal may be an easier way to make money, but they're sketchy. Or one may make great gains, but at the expense of others. Therein lies some of the complexities

*elany* me too and I don't know how but I can think of two exemples of people I know personally: both of them work about half/three quarter of the year and travel rest of the time. One lives in a very big truck turned into an appartment studio (by choice), so the "rent" is extremely low. One is a teacher (who replaces teachers when they are on leaves), the other is a nurse. or there is also the option of saving for a while and then traveling, and maybe getting jobs (lke student jobs: waitressing, babysitting, i dunno) at the said places so you can stay longer...

Definitely travel! I wish you good luck with that. Just remember, that's the external and that the internal needs minding to too. Meditate, think creatively and deal with existentialism

This hit my soul… I’m about 40 and have the best job I ever had in my life and fee like “I just arrived”. This perspective has ensured that I will love each day and live it for the simple purpose of living it!

Life is a bad movie. And no one gets to see the end of the movie. And I'm just hoping to finish my popcorn before I have to leave.

Read some History. You'll find that Life is the best movie ever.

@@ViniloxiaKan but the history includes war, discrimination, people starving, people that only think in theirselves( or money )and do bad things to others, destruction of the planet and a lot of horrible things. I suppose the life is really a bad movie, and I don't know if the pop corn worth it

Pttt! Don't make me laugh! It's not a movie, movies happen without your involvement. It's not popcorn, you can only eat so much popcorn before your tounge goes numb to the taste and your lips start to sting. Life is about.... whatever you want. Love, joy, peace, patience, all things good. Being disciplined. The options are all there, and You get to decide, and then take wonderful action to move the mountains around you. We all feel sorry for the man who wastes his life, or the people who die in vain. That's because life is valuable, to sit back and watch it like a movie is comparable to spilling the ingredients for your favorite Desert on the ground because you haven't baked it yet, and it doesn't taste the way you want it to.

I love Alan Watts. He's got it figured out 🙂 "There's no necessity for the universe" - what a great reminder to not take ourselves and our issues in life so seriously! Thanks @AfterSkool for posting this video.
