When Arteta failed to deliver the Champions league spot in his first year at Arsenal, he could easily have been sacked for being the one in charge. But if you looked closely at the metrics, you would have seen that he actually slightly improved the team's win rate. If you rewarded that incremental progress with 2 more years, Voila! he delivered the Champions league spot. Sometimes, these problems take time to solve. How do you know when to give more time?
