As Hikaru said, unless Ding has been faking bad form he cannot just turn on his top form for the World Chess Championship. Yes, he won game one but he got neutralised with white and completely destroyed with black. To see him burn that much time was astonishing from so early on was astonishing. It isn't over but if he plays like this for the rest of the match he will suffer

Yup … I wrote the same comment when ding was playing Nepo in last championship … Agadmator feels like a cheapo and mediocre after watching the game live with GM commentary. …. By the way … Chess base India and Hikaru also feels rich and complex .. Agadmator just feels cheap as he is not even an IM … he is not even a CM 😂😂 so his understanding of chess is severely narrow

Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Gukesh and I love to see him win the match without a doubt , but we can't get anything away from Ding for winning the first game, he outplayed Gukesh and surprised almost everyone, considering his terrible form in the past year or so.

I’ve been able to watch the last 2 games even though they start at 4 am well at least there’s a day off which I feel will help Gukesh . I think that first game was a wake up for Gukesh to step it up which he has of that I’m not surprised . This last game was kind of tight but Ding struggled after trapping his Bishop he burned a lot of clock . Gukesh on point making best moves at the end . I’m so happy he won and tied the event up . They’re both great players humble quiet individuals very respectful . Move 9 isnt a completely new game, until move 13 was actually played between kramnik and arjun arigeisi in 2023. Gukest said that during the post game interview as well.

And this is why you don't play for a dumb draw as white in game 2. Ding needed to put the pedal to the metal and burn rubber all over the roadkill. Play for the win in game 2 and it's over. You don't give the other team 4 outs in an inning.

@@nyern yes Ding played well he didn’t take the b3 pawn and trapped his bishop. Rh5 was the mistake made by Ding, he has to go with be7 and slowly hold the position. But after Rh5 Gukesh came to winning position and he outplayed Ding very well. Perfectly calculated the lines.

Gukesh was very wise to go for an easy draw in game 2. It would have been easy to panic and push to hard to equalize the match. This is shaping up to be a great match. If Gukesh wins look for India to go totally chess crazy. Even more Hess crazy than they are now.

Ding’s opening has been super suspect. Wayyyy down on time G1 G3 on lines that one would consider as “likely candidates” among G’s opening. MC himself said G1 he was surprised Ding seemed to be out of prep so early in the French defense.

Perhaps Ding's best strategy is just to take some more risks? He's too unstable to hope for a dose of steady games. Just like last match vs Nepo where he was destroyed in the Spanish. He just doesn't have that safe water where he's comfortable he won't get hurt and can shut the game down if he wants to. So, how about a Grunfeld next time? 🤣
