@@feranmiadeakin9850 and they dont participate so they dont lose a lot of rating with one bad match. I believe this is also why magnus didnt want to go for even hogher rating, he would have to grind every game because he would be so much higher rated, he would lose more with a draw than hain with a win. So if he won 1 game and drew 1, he would lose rating...

I know it's the reality of chess nowadays but that's just sad. However unlikely it may seem due to the rating difference, higher rated opponents sometimes don't play at their level of strength. And if that coincides with a well prepared lower rated player then things like this could happen.

It wasn't so many. There were two and he was already struggling with his clock. Going for the throat when you're up a piece is also not top priority. Most players including 2000+ are primarily looking at how to force trades down to piece up endgame, no counter play, routine win. They are not looking for tactical fluorish to end the game on the spot. Not in time trouble anyway.

With so many teams, they can’t all play each other. How do the pairings work such that all the teams play a sample of other teams fairly? In other words, how do they make sure a team isn’t facing 11 super easy or 11 super strong teams?
@jacobpeters5458Ай бұрын
if the country has super easy to beat top player, then he might as well lose early. if it has a super hard to beat player, then it doesn't matter who it plays. same logic in any world championship, like soccer, etc

Swiss system. You may want to read more in detail but basically after each round teams with the same points get matched with each other. So stronger teams match stronger teams, weaker teams match weaker teams.

The 2100 rated player must have thought that his elite opponent was laying a trap for him. That is why he failed to capitalise on the blunder of his top ranked opponent. Same think happened in Arjun's match as well, where his Moroccan opponent failed to capitalise on Arjun's blunder.
