I felt horrible for Adams. He looked so devastated and totally crushed during his post match interview with Maurice. It really shows how precise modern chess has become. If a top grandmaster does not play the absolute best move in the position , he gets crushed despite playing a perfectly acceptable natural move. Anand's defeat in the last round and today was also example of the same
@harryandruschak28436 жыл бұрын
The phrase "perfectly acceptable natural move" does not compute.
@usfazli6 жыл бұрын
Harry Andruschak i meant you dont have to make blunders in the position to lose the game. Very natural looking moves are also not good enough. Today the move a3 was a brilliancy from Ian against Anand. No one in the commentary could visualize that move during the analysis but it was the engines top move and that move crippled anand today
@boblavey34746 жыл бұрын
+usfazli Nah all human chess players still make plenty of mistakes (even Carlsen). It's just much harder to see and exploit their mistakes at the highest level.
@FearMyRain6 жыл бұрын
True but you could say that about any "human vs human" activity. In fighting if you make one wrong punch that seems natural, you could be counter hit because of it and lose. In hockey if you make a pass that seems reasonable but wasn't the optimal pass, it could result in a break coming the other way. At the highest level play, mistakes become more costly and even making the 2nd best play might be game-losing.

For those wondering: at 3:19, you can't play Kh1, because after Nf2+ Kg1, Nh3++ Kh1 (if Kf1 then Qf2#), here comes the beautiful queen sacrifice Qg1+ Rxg1, and a beautiful smothered mate: Nf2#. It's a pity agadmator didn't mention this.

It is not winning... Because of bishop e6 with check... After that in a couple of moves black loses his rock to a knight or a bishop
@arpitkumar45256 жыл бұрын
I really don't understand why top players offer draw in equal position. The starting position is also equal why don't they offer draw on move 1 then? In fact chances of mistakes are more in complicated endgames than in any other stage of game as players now prepare 20 moves of theory. Only offer draw when it is dead drawn like opposite colored bishop or blockade and there is no way for your opponent to make mistake. That's what makes Carlsen a champion and he won the game even though he played badly.
@sswise121212126 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! wow this needs to be the top comment players make mistakes and blunders all the time why not try and see if a blunder can be made
@TheMe266 жыл бұрын
arpit kumar players offer a draw because of what you stated simply too much risks for a position that you cant force a win in you simply have to wait for the opponent to blunder or risk blundering yourselve or in most cases where none of them blunders it ends up in a draw
@donaldslayer6 жыл бұрын
White has an advantage on move 1 so it's in whites interest to move rather than draw, also it wouldn't be a game if every match was a draw
@arpitkumar45256 жыл бұрын
NoxiousRebug white has very little advantage. It is considered equal. And that's what I am saying that it wouldn't be a game if every match was drawn. There's everything to play for in complex and equal endgames. In this tournament many players have drawn in unclear positions on move 30(when they are allowed to offer draw).
@Mwuesse6 жыл бұрын
There are a few factors. The most important is that you get half a point for a draw. If you reach a position in an endgame where (arbitary figures) 85% of the time it will be a draw and then say 7% white wins and 8% black wins it you would rather just take the half point than risk losing when you have such a minimal edge. However, in the beginning of the game the edge is much more significant - white is around 38-39% to win and black is somewhere between 26 and 30% to win - as you can see 10%+ edge is hugely significant compared to maybe a 1% edge in some end-games. Carlsen is an end-game beast though so his percentage to win in the end-game is going to be way more significant than the average GM so ofc it makes sense for him to carry on. I doubt he would be so tenacious in grinding out end-games if that wasn't his strength.
@dalsenov6 жыл бұрын
At 11.27 1...Kd7 2.Bb5 is not good because of Ke7 ,but instead 2.Nb8 check and if Ke7 than Rf7 check, keeps the rook for white and capture black's rook.

Seems to me that from the position Carlssen dreaded, much stronger persecution of White's Queen is possible than what Carlssen let on, and without the need of allowing that Queen to immediately take more pieces and also without trading the 'black' Bishop for merely a pawn - instead I think putting the OTHER Rook on that c8 square, and mobilising ge Knight and that Bishop to attack White's Queen would possibly have brought a lot of satisfaction

Theory has taken a lot of the scheming out of chess. Now its about who's stuffed the most memorized lines in their head with sprinkles of genius here and there. Only low level players without much theory can truly prove their cleverness by through chess.
