The London Chess Classic is a 10-player round-robin taking place from December 1st to 11th at Google HQ in London, for Round 1, and then at the Olympia Conference Centre in Kensington. The event is the 5th and final leg of the Grand Chess Tour and features World Champion Magnus Carlsen, other tour regulars Viswanathan Anand, Levon Aronian, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, Wesley So, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Sergey Karjakin, as well as English wild card Mickey Adams.
The prize fund is $300,000 (about €280,000) with a first prize of $75,000, plus another $100,000 and $50,000 respectively for the top two in the overall 2017 Grand Chess Tour standings. Players receive 100 minutes for 40 moves then 60 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second delay from move 1. In the event of a tie for first, a tiebreak match (10 mins + 5 seconds delay) will be played, beginning 30 minutes after the end of the last classical game. If still tied, up to 2 mini matches (5 min, 3-sec delay) will follow and finally an Armageddon game (5 min vs. 4 min). Official websites: www.londonchessclassic.com | grandchesstour.org

In the beginning of the video I state that Paulsen has a positive score against Morphy. This is not correct, I have no idea why I said that. The scores are reversed: Classical games: Paul Morphy beat Louis Paulsen 5 to 1, with 2 draws. You can check it out here www.chessgames.com/perl/chess.pl?yearcomp=exactly&year=&playercomp=either&pid=16002&player=&pid2=10343&player2=&movescomp=exactly&moves=&opening=&eco=&result=. Apologies for this huge chunk of misinformation.

Carlsen said in post-game interview that he was unable to predict any of Nepo's moves. Said he didn't even see that his Rook was en pris by the Queen when when he recaptured with the pawn. He is really not well. Perhaps even psychologically too. Maybe his girlfriend broke up with him. Something is going on.

I don’t understand two things: why Ra1 and the premature resignation. Is Magnus really down a piece, if the knight is stuck blockading the pawn on c7? How do you defend Rd3 then to Rd8? Can a computer play white in the final position and win or draw? Can you analyze what is Magnus’ best move instead of a resignation? I know he was low on time, but close to meeting time control. Thanks.

At 6:39, after Nepo moved his Knight to d7, I immediately thought that Nxf7 would be a good move. If Nepo took with the King, then Bg5, discovered check, and he loses his Queen, so he has to move his Queen. If he moves his Queen to e6, the Knight forks his rooks. If he moves the Queen to b6, then he still gets his rooks forked, or Nxh6check, pawn takes knight, bishop takes pawn leaving the black king with no pawn protection. Carlsen could force a queen trade (or not), then a rook lift by taking the pawn on a5 would pretty well seal the game. Just my thoughts, I'm not a good chess player, but I wondered why Carlsen didn't play that move. I would appreciate any comments on this line of play.

pin on knight simply doesnt work beacuse black just wont move the knight (considering that every knight move lose the game for black), they will more likely move their king to f7 square and continue to rule the game as they are a piece up and there is no way to breakthrough for white

at 5:58 .. when black moves night to d7, why is not the best move for white to capture h6 ? @agadmator's

What about Bg3? If Ian pushes e5 then pawn f4. If he does Re7 then Rb7, and if he ever does Nd6 after e5 has been played then go Rb8, if rook captures rook then pawn captures rook.
@AnonymousAnonymous-fe9mx
@AnonymousAnonymous-fe9mx 5 жыл бұрын
What's wrong with Rb8? He pins the knight and if the knight moves, say Nd8 then Magnus can play Rxe8+, Nxe8, then he queens with his c pawn pinning the knight to the king and if the knight remains undefended then Qxe8#. Did I miss anything with this move? Only issue I see is if lan doesn't move his knight

@phie6648 4 жыл бұрын
4:57 why not just play knight c6 in this position as white? wouldnt this just win the pawn as it would form the queen and the pawn forcing the queen to move and then you can just take the pawn cause u now have a double attack on it?
@matthewthompson555
@matthewthompson555 4 жыл бұрын
I think that then encourages Queen b6, black controls the B file, can bring rooks over, and start infiltrating down to B2, kick the rook on A1 away, and just start causing havoc from the back ranks. Yeah you end up losing the pawn, but even after knight takes pawn, rook to A8 also threatens both the knight and rook on the A file and you probably loose a major piece for pawn when the exchanges are over. But shit I'm no GM so i don't actually have a damn clue how that line plays out.

@agadmator's chess channel I don't know if you really want a comment like this but I thought you might like to know that the title is technically incorrect grammatically. It should be The Only Chess Player Magnus Carlsen ***Has*** Never Defeated | LCC Round 8 as at the moment it sounds like Carlsen played a long time ago and this all happened in the distant past. Sorry if this seems like nit picking.

Don Vito it’s not because than the knight won’t move and if you capture it with the rook the black rook will capture yours and now you loose the rook and the pawn can’t move anywhere

At 6:38, it seems Carlsen missed knight takes on F7 threatening the queen and if the king takes then the bishop moves to threaten the queen for a discovered check by the opposing queen on the king then at F7. And if the king doesn't take the knight, but the queen moves instead, anywhere except for F6, then knight takes H6 with check and if the pawn takes the knight there, then the bishop gets that pawn free, so the trade would be 3 pawns for the knight and the king would have no pawn structure to hide behind in the least. Then it seem's mate would require getting the rook up in the action to limit the kings options, or maybe just march those unopposed pawns down the board at the defenseless king, make it cost him a bishop and hopefully queen one of those pawns to cost him a rook, then win the end game with better queening prospects and superior material all the while threatening the exposed king.

very light analysis..in particular you completely miss some of the main critical moments of this game : - 4:48 when nepo plays Ba4 Carlsen had strong Rc1! preventing Bc2 instead of Ra1?! - 5:28 after Bh7 carlsen plays the meek c4?!, missing the very strong g5! (and if Nd5 Nxf7!), which was rather easy to spot for someone of his caliber.

Dear Sirs just wanted to know what chess software you are using currently on your channel and or what you recommend using for really low level or horrible players like myself haha but seriously I like the set up you use and how you have the classic games and stuff like that really cool site thanks for your awesome sharing! Definitely Mikhail Tal has to be one of the all time favorites for me and I think had Bobby Fisher stayed in the game he could've done so much for chess and USA chess in general! Have a blessed day and week be safe!

I think Agadmator is confused, Morphy demolished Paulsen in the 1857 1st American Chess Congress with 5 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss, the opposite of what he said. So I guess Morphy I'd the undisputed best since he didn't have rivals unlike Carlsen and Kasparov :D
@Hallands.
@Hallands. 6 жыл бұрын
You're quite mistaken! Classical games:* Paul Morphy beat Louis Paulsen 5 to 1, with 2 draws. Including rapid/exhibition games: Paul Morphy beat Louis Paulsen 7 to 1, with 3 draws. Only rapid/exhibition games: Paul Morphy beat Louis Paulsen 2 to 0, with 1 draw. www.chessgames.com/perl/chess.pl?yearcomp=exactly&year=&playercomp=either&pid=&player=Morphy&pid2=&player2=Louis+paulsen&movescomp=exactly&moves=&opening=&eco=&result=*

Hello Agadmator, Could you please consider casting more Alpha Zero games? It's a level 4000 chess engine that plays like a 19th century English romantic and absolutely stomps modern chess engines. How fascinating is that? And how cool is it to be the one with the freshest take on this moment in chess history? Just saying.
