The best thing about the Italian opening is you get to keep pieces on the board, and that allows for some fantastic games, such as this one. You don't always get to see a monster bishop pair against a monster knight pair, as we got to watch in this game.

Wow that pawn sacrifice in the endgame was absolute gem!! I would play it in puzzles but would definitely hesitate playing it in real games! 😂 Because I'm not sure how to properly draw the endgame (I might know if I actually play it but can't be sure lol) and there was another connected passed pawns on the other side of the board! Crazy game that ended in a draw! Nice save Gukesh!! Might be rooting for him and Nodirbek in the candidates!! The two absolute beasts who completely crushed the 2022 Olympiads!!

Prag has the correct formula for beating Gukesh. This time he lost the advantage in the tricky endgame. It was one of these "don't be afraid" moments when all your self-preservation instincts are telling you to hide, but your general knowledge of chess is telling you "there is nothing going forward".

@@michaelmassaro4375 No. Rock endings with f and h pawns are special. I don't know exactly why. One hast to look up the books. I would like to know the differences. Maybe it has to do with the distance between the pawns. If one has e and h pawns it is winning. There a lots of books especially about this ending.
