Yeah, but to be fair Guki just needs a draw and he wins the candidates. Fabi, Nepo and Hikaru need a win, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. They’ve pretty much drawn out most of their games, it’s the wins vs the weaker players that matter. Hikaru also has a decent chance because a win for him means loss for Guki and he’s white, but idk. My gut tells me Guki will win the tournament.

I was watching this match live. Alireza spent only six seconds to make that queen move that proved fatal. The commentators never even mentioned this move as a possibility before he played it, as they all were only thinking of that nE6 move. It’s exactly the same thing that happened against Hikaru, Alireza made precise moves under time pressure, then blundered after reaching time control. I thought for sure we were going to have a four way tie, but Alireza screwed up again. My prediction is he is on the first flight out of Toronto after the matches tommorrow.

Yeah, those blunders including from his game with Hikaru is quite unnatural even after getting time control. I really thought that he would win this game or atleast draw cause they are equal most of the time. Just one critical blunder can change the flow the game. Chess is brutal.

this honestly feels like a career shaping tournament for alireza. it cna be concluded that he ultimately failed and it wouldnt suprise me if he retires or atleast pulls out of the next tournaments he planned if you look at his development in the last 2 years he actually got worse

I was in school , when Bobby Fischer-Boris Spassky match was played , probably in Iceland . We used to read match details with moves in newspapers after 2 days . Professional chess players were few . Soviet Russia was the King of chess . We used to play Indian chess . Spassky-Fischer match introduced to International version of this marvelous game . I read a story on Chess written by Stephen Zweig . Today we can see games in real time . Number of good players has increased many times . Russia has lost its monopoly . Now , it is much tougher to become a chess champion . In this era Gukesh is challenging the best players on earth . He has been playing like a champion .

I've a very solid prediction on Nakamura vs Gukesh. Nakamura is white, Gukesh is black. High chances of winning belongs to Naka. Gukesh can seriously hold for a draw, or even beat Naka if Naka pushes too hard for a win (This thing is most probably, as when Naka pushes too hard for a win he loses many times) But, I got a thing which is most likely to happen. Hikaru is going to play some weird lines so that Gukesh starts taking his time. Nakamura is going to blitz out his moves. Gukesh can lose because he is tired due to his game against Firouzja that lasted for almost 6 hours. Hikaru on the other hand made a quick draw and go to his room to prepare. Hikaru has the upper hand here. Also, it is worth noting that when Hikaru pushes too hard for a win, he wins 90% of the time.

19:10 position gave me scare of the lifetime being an Indian. Thank god that Gukesh sniffed that move in advance. And yes had Gukesh fallen for that trick, which wasnt completely impossible given the low time on clock, it would have been a scar to bear forever. Even for Indian fans. Thank you Agadmamtor for nice analysis. Kudos.

I calculated the probability of each player winning : Gukesh : 5/9 (56%) Hikaru : 2/9 (22%) Fabi : 1/9 (11%) Nepo : 1/9 (11%) That is assuming the following : 1: both game have a 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 chance of being drawn or won by player 1 or won by player 2. 2: In a tie break, each player has 1/2 chance to win against the other. Interesting to note that the pairings matter : Hikaru is twice as likely to win as Fabi and Nepo even though they have the same score.
