For those who don't get the infinity gauntlet, I think it is because of yesterday's photos where one of them was a pose Magnus was making while looking at his hand in a weird way. They had a twitter photo caption contest. Whoever did the photoshop is pretty intelligent because Magnus is all about the end game. He can even change reality of a drawn position into one where he wins, similar to Infinity War chess engine named Dr Strange.

Unironically, why not both? Imagine the chess board as the battlefield (which it is): World Champion Magnus Carlsen hovering in the air on his side, wearing the infinity gauntlet, and from above orchestrating his opponent's demise.

It wasn't just that they were playing for 6 and a half hours, Sergei was also under extreme time pressure. This game by Magnus reminded me so much of Kasparov vs Karpov game 24 in 1987 where Garry just waited and waited and waited until Anatoly finally cracked. Magnus just kept playing a really good positional game until they were basically playing Blitz and Sergei finally cracked.

I've repeatedly stated Carlsen is in a league,where not many world champions have been. There was this photo challenge where each row of GMs made a team & many viewers rated Alekhine,Lasker,Botvinnik ,Tal ,Capablanca,Petrosian,Karpov etc. Higher than Magnus & they believed that others would have easily outplayed Magnus. I had stated then too & I'll state again that Carlsen doesn't have an unprecedented ELO rating ever before by any GMs in the history of the game by doing nothing & playing for draws. He got there by making precise moves again and again like a machine and then capitalise on the slightest of advantages to make a move for winning the game.A trait I believe only Fischer & to some extent Kasparov had. Magnus improves even more on their works because he has learnt chess in the times of supercomputers and machines. He calculates such things faster with all lines and accurately than any GMs & that's why his rating is somewhere where no GMs could match it yet. Btw Sergey Karjakin is the youngest GM in the history of the game. By no means it is an easy feat to get a result playing against him.Only legends of the highest league can push for a result like this. That's the reason I rate Carlsen higher than than other legends of the game. I can give the advantage to Fischer, Kasparov to be better in a Phase but Magnus is a machine and can adapt, learn and dominate incessantly..
@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx5 жыл бұрын
But Magnus is a machine. He can't improve because he has nothing to improve. Carlsen can't even beat his 18 year old self in Chess!

All strong players in chess now a days are transforming into engines. 6 hours of concentration, that too with this accuracy.......if it is not brute force, then what is? I play with chess engines. Once in a blue moon, even if I manage to keep the position equal, they simply tighten the screws and almost unknowingly I cross the point of no return. Carlsen, Fischer, Caruana in some games are simply like engines. Their games give the same vibes.
@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx5 жыл бұрын
Try Lvl 12 difficulty on Chess without resigning or quitting and let alone win it. The chess Engine knows all the Gambits you do. If only I can make some ploy to open up their defenses without them going for the devastating English Openings.

There was a funny and interesting moment in the coverage of this game by saint louis chess club. At move 22, Yasser seirawan thought the position was balanced and should lead to a draw. However just came Alejandro Ramirez who said that after analyzing with Maxime Vachier Lagrave, the position appeared to be very very difficult for black: 2 weak central points that prevented the white bishop to move freely. The engine showed 0.2 but computers may hold such positions for a very long time. Humans cannot! MVL conclusion was that at the exit of opening , Carlsen was exactly where he wanted to be and had a good chance to win the game! These super GM don't think like us!
