She has covered this classic many times before, staying 'spot on' with Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard' rendition and delivering the 2nd best renditions I have ever heard. But here, at The Nobel Prize Tribute Ceremony in Oslo, she takes the song to a whole different level of emotion laden penetration to the listener. Not even Bobby's song entered the depths of the human soul like this does. I'm sure if he is listening from the 'far beyond', it would bring tears to his eyes as well.

Angelina has ties to this event, in that Grandma Mery is Iranian, and this event celebrates an Iranian woman who won the Nobel Peace Prize. Currently held political prisoner and sentenced to 31 years and 154 lashes. Angelina goes to a special place for this one!

Angelina Jordan sang to the Mohammadi family with her whole heart---to Narges, to the twins there to represent their mother, and to the husband. She sang the cry and lullaby of Narges to her husband and her twins, and also the cry of the twins and their father to their mother and wife. Melts me to tears still. Narges Mohammadi is imprisoned in Iran and the children and their father are in exile in France. Angelina, being the empath she is, feels this as though Narges herself sings to her family. And this makes me weep, Ray. This isn't an ordinary concert, Ray. So Narges won the peace prize because she in imprisoned for fighting for freedom and women's rights, eduction, and so on, for her people. In addition to singing to the family, it feels like Angelina is singing to the entire world, to you and me, saying, "LOVE LARGE, people, as Narges Mohammadi has loved." I like your enthusiasm for Angelina, Ray. God bless you. Grandma Ellen, out quiet as a mouse.

Narges Mohammadi. Iranian woman, civil rights activist, jailed simply because she was fighting for women's rights in Iran. But the world still has pockets of fairness, and although still incarcerated, she was deservedly honoured by being awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, accepted in her absence by her children. Her children, forced to live in exile in France, and have not seen their mother in many years. Then along comes an Angel and sings THIS song, with these stunningly appropriate lyrics, in her honour. I wonder how those children would have felt. And she doesn't just sing the song. She gives one of the most beautiful, emotional performances in her life (and that, my friend, is saying a LOT!) A performance in which she is the quintessence of grace, beauty, elegance and sheer CLASS, along with one of the finest demonstrations thus far of the unique, otherworldly beauty of her voice, her masterful vocal control, and her completely, utterly unsurpassable musical talent. I felt this to my soul. Thank you, Angelina, and thank you, Ray, for your undying commitment to, and support of, our Angel.

Ray, thanks, as always for your entertaining reaction to Angelina Jordan. I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. Angelina is the FIRST musical artist to perform a second time at a Nobel Peace Prize event. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

Hey RAY... wonderful reaction... I have seen several comments about why AJ choose this song for this Nobel Peace Prize event... there is a whole story behind it... this song was written for the movie "Unchained" "I think it was released in 1956... I'll add a few lines that I took from Wikipedia... "The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family ". Let us remember that this year the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned in Iran for her work in favor of women... She is so smart and heartwarming

Thank you for the wonderful reaction Vibe. What a fascinating and intimate interpretation! I was moved to see and hear Angelina singing in such an incredibly mature and charming way, this wonderful version of a fantastic song, after 9 years, in the same studios and with some of the musicians who accompanied her as a child, when she took her first steps in her musical future. Here Angelina was simply fantastic. 💛🧡❤

To illustrate how fearful and depraved the Iranian regime is, there is this excerpt from the Nobel committee's press release regarding Narges Mohammadi's fate: "Altogether, the regime has arrested her 13 times, convicted her five times, and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes". We all surely feel sympathy for this woman and her family, but it must be especially heart wrenching for Angelina, given her Iranian heritage and her empathy for the disadvantaged and downtrodden.
@rmcc4210 ай бұрын
After watching this reaction (as usual Ray, a very good reaction) and reading the comments I feel there are a couple of things that need to be pointed out! First, this program was in Norway -people there tend to be much more reserved in their responses than say at a rock concert with 50-70 thousand people in the USA! This was an intimate setting with mostly dignitaries and leaders from all over the world who, as a whole tend to be more reserved in public, and probably not more than 2-3 thousand people! lastly this was a formal and somber occasion honoring a person for standing up for the human rights of individuals, especially women. That woman has spent much of her life in prisoned for what she believes in! And her two 17 year old (same as Angelina) twin children were there to accept the award and recognition of and for their mother! Angelina sang this, the perfect song for the occasion in my opinion, in a very somber and respectful way in honor of Narges Mohammodi and her family! Yes, Angelina deserves all the accolades possible for her performance, but this is kind of like someone singing a beautiful song in a church honoring someone's death! You don't stand and applaud for the vocalist! JMHO!

The perfect performance for this somber occasion. Imagine Narges' children thinking of their mother? I have no doubt Angelina's performance was a gift from one 17 year old to another. Factor in Grandma Mery being born in Iran and you have something with no doubt deep meaning to Angelina. She has said before she is proud of her Asian heritage.

Unchained Melody Nobel Peace Prize 2023 Some ask why Angelina Jordan would pick Unchained Melody for this event, Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award remains incarcerated today in Iran. One of the most popular and enduring love songs of all time, Unchained Melody, has a surprising origin. It was composed for a 1955 film called Unchained, which tells the story of a man who is incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. He yearns to be free and reunite with his wife and children, who are waiting for him outside. The song captures his emotions of loneliness, hope and longing, and has been covered by many artists over the years, but none in my lifetime of 76 years have conveyed such emotion as Angelina Jordan did at this performance.
