Rockhounding Adventures - Weiser Idaho

With a tip from our friend, guru and fellow rockhound Garret Romaine we headed to Idaho to find some agates and cool rocks.
This video features our roadside finds in Idaho, we found this road called Jonathan Road in Weiser Idaho, through Garett Romaine's book "Rockhounding Idaho". Where we found some really interesting rocks and agate specimens. In Bigwood River and Weiser Idaho as well.

Our overall journey started out in Oregon, but we were headed initially to Idaho, to check out Weiser Idaho and we ended up on Jonathan Road. Then with a tip from our friend and fellow rockhound Theo Kellison we went onto Montana, where we delightfully discovered Crystal Park.
It didn't stop there, we went further into Montana to check out the Yellowstone River and unfortunately the river was way to high to find any big scores.
Then on our way back to Oregon, we stopped in Idaho and met with Randy Robin. He is a fellow rockhound & subscriber to our channel and we might add an awesome guide.
Randy showed us a couple of amazing rock collecting area's called Graveyard Point and Succor Creek just across the Idaho border in Oregon.
This area is managed by Bureau of Land Management and is free to rockhound (except for claimed areas).
This area holds some fantastic examples of biogeo genesis, where bacteria used rocks to protect themselves from the harsh environment around them and over the centuries became embedded into the rocks. These examples are called Graveyard Plume Agates. Along with Succor creek which has some pretty amazing geodes. Our last stop was in Prinville Oregon where we ended up finding some fantastic roadside finds along hwy 26 and hwy 380.

I just discovered you two today , Awesome video’s. I live just down the road from Weiser and we have picked up rocks forever! I have quite a collection because my Dad was a cat skinner and built logging roads and reservoirs for mines. So he always brought them home. Lots of obsidian and other various rocks around the property here. Thank you for your video’s I have learned what some of these are.

So very cool! I find so many of those rocks clear down here in Colorado! I’ve found that white silica thin layer on rocks way up at over 10K elevation!

Hi Shelly 👋 Awesomeness 👌 We're still not sure of what that silica layer is, in the case of Weiser Id up Jonathan rd it has a blue tint to it.

@@shellyfahren1936 It could be common opal, that's a thought. However it really is blue, we unfortunately we're just using our GoPro cameras that day and we had the brightness settings a little to high and didn't realize it until we got home. So everything we shot in bright sunlight sort of washed out a bit. Bummer
