Imagine Link's final stand at Fort Hateno playing out like the final level of Halo Reach; just facing off against endless waves of Guardians until his hearts reach zero. I don't know whether or not Nintendo would actually be willing to do that, but damn would it be appropriate.

Oh god yes. I would definitely prefer a gameplay section which you are destined to lose. I don't want to win, only to lose in the cutscene after. I hated that about Xenoblade 2 especially. Here's a thought, you have a multi-phase battle based on time. You have to clear the first part out to actually complete the mission, but after that it starts spawning one guardian the first minute after you "win." The second minute it spawns two guardians. The third it spawns 3, and so on. By the time you get to 10 minutes guardians are literally spawning in numbers you objectively can't defeat in that time frame and you just get overrun. Terrifying, but thematically on point.

Honestly, after having played (and enjoyed) Age of Calamity’s weird, non-canonical time traveling story......the version of the events and possible gameplay scenarios that you two have placed here are faaaaaar more like what I wanted to see from the game. Again, that isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy the blend of the champions with a feel-good storyline, but I was ready to be wounded and to feel the emotional trauma of the calamity itself. I really wish we had gotten to see the actual canonical events of the calamity as advertised by Nintendo, but I understand why Ninty wanted to keep their baby out of 3rd party hands i guess. Absolutely excellent work guys, I really hope that BotW 2 delivers (and soon).

There are a few moments which I really would love to see in Age of Calamity: the Champions' defeat at the hands of the Ganon blights, the battle at Blatchery Plains/Akkala Citadel and Zelda sealing Ganon and herself in Hyrule Castle while Link's placed in the Shrine of Resurrection (which may very well be the last cutscene in the game).

*AOC SPOILER WARNING !* . . . . . . Though I really enjoyed the story of AoC, I'm really disappointed that we did not get to see the real events of the day of the Calamity. It would have been so tragic, heartbreaking and fucking good to see. I get why Nintendo chose to do a What if scenario for the sake of the gameplay and probably because they don't wanna show a game where everybody dies but it's just sad that it will never happen. Maybe they'll do a AoC DLC with the real story but that's very unlikely since it would have to either be a very big DLC or they'll have to trim down the story.

When the game ends the last scene of the game should be the opening of BOTW with Link waking up in the shrine and running out of it seeing all of Hyrule, and if Nintendo wants to make players cry they should pull an inFAMOUS 2 and have the player play as the 4 blights and kill the champions as the blights keep firing their lasers at them while they struggle to get up and die, and if they do that, afterwards have the player play as the guardian that was going to blast Link and Zelda and when you fire the laser, that’s when Zelda unlocks her sealing power and then play the rest of that memory and the last memory.

Despite never seeing any gameplay of them I could totally see Young Robbie, Purah and Impa as playable characters, in which case it's possible that there will a gameplay section right before the last one with Zelda where the three of them must protect link from enemies while securing the shrine of resurrection, possibly from an attack by Ganon using his forces to actively try to prevent link from getting to the shrine (which is thwarted for 100 years shortly after this mission by Zelda).

This is awsome! I thought others were already uploaded until I saw it had been uploaded 18 hours ago. I was sad. IT'S SO GOOD. Can't wait for more. Minor detail I noticed myself. In the memory where Link defends Zelda at hateno fort, he might not be where you think he is. He is NOT standing in front of the wall. He's not between the guardians and the wall, he's actually behind the guardians. I could figure this out by examining the landscape in the background and you can even see the two guardians Link destroyed if I remember correctly. I couldn't believe it when I discovered and denied it. But yeah, he wasn't defending the wall, it's weird. My theory is that he gave up defending the wall because saving the princess was the biggest priority, so he tried to sneak away with her and that's why he's so far from the wall. Another theory I have is that the guardians eventually noticed Zelda and she became their main target. Link must have noticed that the guardians were no longer trying to get past the wall and were just aiming for Zelda. He must have found this to be too dangerous and tried to get away, and this would explain why the guardians seem to be looking for them at the beginning of the memory. What are your thoughts about this? What are your explanations? Would love to hear it.
@MonsterMaze
@MonsterMaze 4 жыл бұрын
Well, it is still possible that the fight initially started in front of the wall. I mean, its a way safer option to be there with the Militia at the fort having your back than to be far out into the field with no backup. The scene where Link almost dies starts after most of the battle has already taken place. So there is a big chunk before that missing from the event. They may have moved further up into the field at some point, perhaps to make a run for it towards Kakariko Bridge, and towards the village. But the Guardians just kept on coming, and Link was barely able to move anymore. But who knows. We won't know for sure until we actually see it play out in Age of Calamity ^^

One thing to note, I think Zelda’s moveset will *have* to change to be based on her sacred power in that final segment - the Shiekah Slate ends up with Link in the Shrine of Resurrection, meaning she has to give it up when she sends Link away, basically trading the slate for the master sword.

So does she gain affection towards him before trying to push him away. ?? As we see in flashbacks she resented him in breath of the wild....I need answers. Plus I want to see what Kass' teacher looks like...and see his jealousy and hatred towards Link for having Zelda's affection. Plus I want to see what he looked like and know his name. And his reactions with Link....we never got any of this in flashbacks....

I feel the tension of the Great Calamity much more than similar events in other games. Namely the Omnic Crisis in Overwatch. In that game, it’s a bunch of people from all over the world with superpowers and tech, so the stakes are *much* lower. While in the Great Calamity, it’s really only two people, Link and Zelda, that’s it. Only two people can fight off what’s essentially Satan.

It might seem like an insignificant detail but I've noticed something... In the memory showing Ganon's return we don't see the five pillars rise. My guess is that Ganon activated them much later. And with the trailer for AoC, I think I know when. Just after Ganon's return, as instructed by Daruk, Link and Zelda make their way to the castle. They pass by Kakariko village where Impa join them. In the trailer, for a few frames we can see the trio in the castle, near the Second Gatehouse, retreating in fear. That's because Ganon just activated the pillars, as in the next shot we see Zelda in shock and the corrupted Guardians later coming out of them. In one of the last scene of the trailer Link and Zelda are rushing out of the castle when they get fired at by one of the already excavated Guardians, Ganon took control of them. We don't see Impa with them, so they probably lost her shortly before, that's why Impa sent guards to find the princess.
@MonsterMaze
@MonsterMaze 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is indeed a good chance that the pillars rise later. In the Age of Calamity trailer, Zelda seems to witness them rising. So that means they rose around the time that Link and Zelda arrived at the castle.
@cbrownjc7633
@cbrownjc7633 4 жыл бұрын
I'll bet anything the pillars rise around the same time - or the exact same time - that Ganon sends his Malice Blights to corrupt the Guardians and kill the Champions as well. Doing both at the same time would create such chaos, who might have thought they had a good chance to still beat him back. And think on this: some Guardians have already been dug up and were in the Castle grounds. We've already seen in a cut scene those dug up Guardians being corrupted. What if those guardians are corrupted *first*, and are the Guardians Link and Zelda and Impa have to fight as they make their way through Castle Town to get to the Castle. That give the player a good gameplay fight section, and still has the heroes thinking they can still win. Then, just as they make it to the Castle Gate, the 5 pillars rise up & are corrupted, spilling out thousands of corrupted Guardians. The Devine Beasts, which are close and ready to take on Calamity Ganon are also corrupted at this exact moment as well (Link and Zelda *seeing* them being corrupted, because later Zelda talks about the other Champions being trapped inside the Devine Beasts which, along with the Guardians, have turned on them). At that point, Link and Zelda have no choice but to flee for their lives (maybe with Impa giving them cover to escape first before she flees too).

I've watched a couple of these and will watch the rest soon. It seems like you're assuming Age of Calamity will begin exactly when the Calamity emerges. But this ignores the fact that we clearly see battles taking place without guardians, the castle in its pre-Calamity state, and Link and Revali without their Champion's garb. In BotW it seems obvious to me that the Champions were all chosen and given their garb DAYS, maybe even weeks, before the Calamity. It's my deduction that we will be playing pre-Calamity attacks by monsters and may even play through the Champions (at least Link) being selected. This gives us days for things like the attack on Gerudo Town to unfold without having to reconfigure Urbosa's path. Your thoughts?

All it took was raise her hand and everything stopped. Such a shame she didn't do it a bit earlier. well, it was so difficult to watch, i've been putting it away since i saw the video come out, because i knew i would hate it, but i watched it to give you a chance, and... yeah, i knew giving it a chance was futile. i mean, i know you put a lot of work and research into this, but i can't believe you still haven't realized this (whole Hero's Path) doesn't make sense, and can talk about it so freely. All those paths, and possible battle scenes, and whatnot? It's nice and cool, i admit, but there's one of the main factors important in storytelling that is absent from this story: time. Technically, Zelda and Link can travel to all these places...if they have a week to spare, that is. Not if they're pressed for time because Calamity is destroying the world within moments. You'd think that a mindless, unstoppable force of hate that everyone said the Calamity was would kill everything it could right off the bat. But no, instead, it chose to scare people with some monsters and guardians, not doing anything itself. Because what exactly was Calamity doing while everybody was running around in panic? Floating above the Castle and roaring into the sky? By some *strangely* convenient plot, it didn't do anything else, and simply waited for Zelda to arrive at the castle. Were you going to make a Hero's Path for the Calamity maybe? i'll give you an idea about how it would look like: Ganon: manifests itself, roaring into the sky. Zelda & Champions: make a plan Ganon: waits, roars some more, maybe starts sending out malice to possess Guardians Zelda & Champions: make their way back to their designated places, with possible stops on the way people: evacuate Ganon: waits, sends out blights to kill champions Zelda & Link: change their route midway, decide to go elsewhere, Ganon: waits Link: gets killed (or damaged enough that he needs to be taken to SoR) everybody else: dead Zelda: goes to Kakariko Ganon: waits Zelda: goes ALL the way to Korok Forest Ganon: waits Zelda: goes all the way back to Hyrule Castle Ganon: waits, roars a bit for effect Zelda: raises her hand The end. see what i mean? And i'm sorry for my comment being rude, but i can't believe nobody is noticing it, for all these years... to be honest, for this reason i hate Botw's story, it bothers me on a story-writing level. Probably because of how terribly the story is written. Everybody is satisfied with flashy battles and dramatic cutscenes. Unfortunately, to me more important are story writing and logic- if the events make sense. Here, they don't. i guess i just wanted to say this, and this was the right video for it. Maybe no one will read this, and even if someone does, they'll probably disagree with me. The video was good aside for this.

2:35 The memory you show and where you start your route it's not Spring of Wisdom, it's Spring of Power, in Akkala. Zelda went to Spring of Wisdom, in Mount Lanayru as a last try to awake her powers, and I think was a part of her coming of age 17 or something like that.

Props to putting together this series. Said it in the second part, but this is an awesome thing. So much gameplay possibility for all these main characters as they journey across all of Hyrule on their respective tragic journeys. One thing I'm taking away from all this is how utterly tragic Breath of the Wild is. Has this Link had the most brutal road in the series? Maybe he hasn't, but it feels like it to me. Thrown into a full blown war that doesn't end well. His companions in the champions, his comrades in the knights, his family, and even a potential love interest in Mipha all get killed. Or if they survive they pass to old age. Even after piecing together his memories (to whatever degree they are by the end) he's in a world that is completely different from the one he knew. But unlike Ocarina of Time, this Link doesn't have time travel to go back with. All he has by the end of the first game is Zelda. Admittedly having your main love interest is definitely something. But he's still got a whole other adventure in the sequel to get through. Not to mention Zelda's journey and she's got a pretty pristine memory of how much she's lost. Regardless of how dark the sequel is, it sure feels like this coming trilogy is going to be heavy on the darkness and tragedy side of things.

It would be cool if Princess Zelda's moveset completely changes after the battle at Hateno. Like, she goes full OP and can blast whole guardians away with magic. I just hope they continue to not give mention to the Triforce before BotW2. I like the idea that the existence of the Triforce has faded into obscurity over the thousands of years since games prior, and nobody but Ganondorf really understands it. Kinda like how it was set up in Wind Waker, but with less blatant foreshadowing.

So, i would like to see 2 battles in the Age of Calamity that have to do with the end of Link and Zelda's journey. 1st is a battle where Zelda helps defend the Korok forest from attack monsters/guardians. 2nd is a battle on the Great Plateau defending Link's entourage as they carry him to the Shrine of Resurrection.
