Im in my 20s and i played a lot of AOM growing up. Im a gamer so im trying to get good at retold and i've been enjoying the high level analysis brod.

Fantastic game and very high performances. Great defense from the Freyr player as well. Not being able to get much damage in the early game is usually the end for Poseidon against Norse in the long run, but somehow you managed to pull it off. As a Poseidon main I can confirm that one TC early aggression is usually your only alternative. But even then, the hipieus are not in a great state currently

I think Ares was thought as poseidon answer to Norse. One tech gives Hoplites, Prodromoi, and Militia have +1 divine. The only god tech that gives Militia a bonus! Another unlocks the Hypaspist at age 2.

Poseidon is absolutely terrible into all Norse. Hippeus too expensive and weak. You had to play out of your skin there to win.

I think lategame range in general is really strong against Norse. In the lategame, it feels like you need Fire Giants to deal with archer balls because it can be so tough for melee like Raiding Cav to get on top of them. Really cool analysis; thanks for sharing! I like Vidar a lot; but would you say that vs Greek, the Freyr player should usually pick Hel, just because Greek can struggle against Myth unit spam?

It seems like a great option yeah! Vidar is also great with his tech for 10% additional hp on units

I’m pretty new to the game, but I’ve been maining Poseidon and it feels pretty awful into Norse. Plus I mostly practice in quick play and A Lot of people spam Norse rush strats there lol. Honestly the best I’ve been able to do is build my base with a lot of choke points, spam some early archers and protect my gold mine with walls/buildings. I should probably work on scouting better so I can make better use of early raids.

Funny thing is that Poseidon kind of sucks because people lean too hard into weak bonuses. It's like saying Isis doesnt need farms because Isis has a food production tech. Poseidon doesn't get that great of Cab by default and their default bonus makes them better at raiding not tanking. You still need the traditional Greek composition of Hoplites and Archers. Poseidon has a great economic though. Everybody is sleeping on Greeks largest hidden bonus - the no Favor economy.

great analisys. Why not going Ares? Everyone expects cavalry, but with Ares you get infantry and also toxotes upgrades, which are really great... You can counter his counter cavalry with Hypaspist :) in long run i think Ares is better option...

On paper it looks good, but in practice it simply doesn’t work based on my own experience. I also don’t see the pros who try it out having a good time with it. Did you try yourself? Magic is right that as Poseidon you have no other alternatives than to put early pressure against Norse. You therefore usually need mobility for early raides.

"the tech switch into chariot archers caught him off guard" tbf i'd shit myself if I saw my greek opponent had chariots ;) fwiw as a scrub, I've always had most trouble with Freyr against Greek when they go heavy myth (minotaur or cyclops) + mass tox/hypaspist with Ares. Similar to this game I like to get berserks out to protect early and build extra buildings for techs without choking production, so having fewer hersir and no hall of thanes means when they get focused it's a real struggle. Even more so against Ares as a couple of Cyclops makes short work of the Asgardion bastion and pestilence slows down reinforcements massively. It's fair to say better players are going to both anticipate a timing like that and deal with that aggression better, but I think Ares is better than most give him credit for. It's hard to deal with if you just happen to have clicked age up, making a tc somewhere, etc gg and thanks for the insight!
