Thx for creating all these Guides. I come from sc2 and there its easy to find build orders or at least replays to watch how others do it. But for aom retold exists no website for pro replay downloads so these guides are at the moment the only thing that really helps to get better. Keep doing it please!

What are your thoughts on ballistics and huntress axe? Isn't huntress axe obsolete with ballistics? And ballistics give better tracking rating for everything and free dwarf... Huntress axe only gives 1 range is it worth it?

def worth it! (i don't think ballistics impacts throwing axemen though)

@@IamMagicAOM Hi, Ballistics apply on TA. It is shown in the units information. But since it could be an error i made a very specific test in the editor. I can explain the test for you if you want but the results are: Ballistics work same as huntress axe beside the 1 range. If you have ballistics first or Huntress Axe first the tracking rating is 99 either way. Applying both upgrades don't give better accurancy. So as thor i recommend ballistics and it would be better to use the res of Huntress Axe for a Frost Giant or other upgrades first. Trivia: Even with Ballistics or Huntress Axe the TA can still miss vs very fast units (more then 10 speed via Triggers) but are way more accurate and should be 100% accurate vs regular units in the game.

I tried the BO and combined with the idea of suppe with the Thor Hammer upgrade but i kept losing vs Loki, Poseidon, Odin because im not ready for an early push. For me i developed the idea to not using the armoy that early. I go faster into Age 2 with more Hersir and on the way to Age 2 i build the armory so it is easier to defend and effort the upgrades especially with forseti so you have 5 extra Dwarfs but a bit later. Good content! Please could you make a guide on how to use score to my advantage, like what things can I tell from my opponent by just looking at the score. I've seen people notice stuff by just looking at score like if they're going for next age or second TC, is it possible still on this game?

I turn it off at the beginning but after age 2 I cycle between them (I leave auto recruit on for dwarves first then gatherers after)

Nice job, just a question how you would play in norse mirrors though when they advance faster therefore they harass non stop as thor compared to odin you dont have that

@@Randyorton98ful a bit more defensively with raiding cavalry to secure a bit of the map, in Norse wars once you gain a good footing with Thor you can actually press him as your units will have full armory completed and your eco will be boosted by 3 dwarves

Ultra noob question here... I thought the norse's only method of getting favor was by combat - how is it that you have villagers/units "on" or allocated to favor on the top of the screen? Like around the 9:20 mark in the video. Is that a unit in combat?

how do you rate this guide with the current meta? I tried it a handful of times today but just couldn't get the perfect timing at all, which is pretty late anyway, and then I'm just on the fence for no reason. I don't feel the vil lead here is significant because you're advancing way later than your opponent whereas civs with vil leads in AoE2 like chinese or mayans for instance keep the vil lead because they theoretically advance at the same time as everyone else. In this game I just feel I'm 1 vil ahead if I don't do melee atk (2 if I do) AND execute it throughout perfectly. If I mess up the build in any of the many parts you can mess it up my advance time goes up 10-15s and that lead is basically gone so I put myself behind for no reason. I tried another cheesy build with luring all deer in and advancing with 14 pop into valk and when I looked at the postgame I was even in vils with my opponent, so my current theory is getting more vils while advancing later is kinda meaningless. Absolutely no rant intended just sharing my thoughts and would love to hear your thoughts on it as well, obviously.

Good points, I think it all depends. If the match up allows you to get extra vills while not being pressured than imo it’s always better to have it, two extra vills along with armory upgrades will definitely add up in a passive game. (I used this build in my tournament semi final game and it was working well, I lost for other reasons) If the match up is rough and you’re vs an aggressive god then gotta be a bit careful with this Now the argument also comes up that what if you’re vs a booming god like Gaia and don’t want her to get her economic advantage, than you can play as you did and advance really quickly and pressure The game is awesome because there are so many different ways to play!

@@IamMagicAOM do you have a link for your games? would be awesome to watch. The build is too fragile imo so someone that's not a pro player might have a lot of trouble. I've polished the whole process but I still fall a bit short on food when I should be advancing and that further delays everything and makes me way more vulnerable while also throwing away some of the vil lead.

This build is cool in theory. However, you can't build military buildings upon advance at all. You paused 9 seconds before classical and you have 26 wood. I don't think you can do much vs a real player who plays greeks for example. Maybe putting 2 of the starting dwarves on gold, then researching the thor hammer upgrade after shanking some sheep or something. I don't know.

Just out of curiosity, what’s the logic behind putting dwarves on wood? From what I understand, Thor’s dwarves are as good as gatherer’s at gathering food, and are worse at gathering wood. Wouldn’t it theoretically be slightly more optimal to put your dwarves on food initially and put the first few gatherers on wood?

Hey, the gather rates were tweaked in retold, I believe they’re .95 for hunting and .95 for wood and the dwarves gather both at .92, however I should check berries and chickens, you might be onto something

@@IamMagicAOM Some time past already, so you might have figured it out yourself already. But I checked myself the other day and here are the numbers for thor: Dwarf Hunt and Wood rate is indead 0.92 compared to 0.95 for normal villagers. The Herdable animals give 0.83 for dwarfs vs 0.86 for normal villagers. So in both cases 0.03 resources / second less, which is roughly 2 Resources/Minute that you are slower. This makes me wonder though. If we are talking about 2 resources/minute less. Couldn't it be a good strategy to go more dwarfs, and therefore avoid the 50meat costs on villagers, which could get you an advantage in reaching the second age?` But I am still learning, so maybe I am missing something and there is no advantage in getting up faster, if you end up missing gold because you spent more on dwarves?

Hammer of thunder has been buffed in retold and only costs 5 favor now. Youc an get that from slapping some sheep early and grab the upgrade for only 100 gold! @IamMagic
