Jeff Prosperie was a pretty big fan of redline last year, they’re def playing a bit better this year and they’ve got a great show w some super smart changes from MAPA champs this past weekend, super excited to see how they roll out on Thursday

TOTALLY AGREE!!! I’m also an oboist and I watched the Dark Sky show and couldn’t help but cringe a bit. Us oboes definitely get a bad name but bridgeland a oboist really shows what an oboe can do in indoor

I had the opportunity to watch Resistance’s show and while I don’t think it will place very well I thought the show design was enjoyable. They wear uniforms that are supposed to make it so that you don’t know which way they are facing. Members put drums on their backs and then play on the person in front of them. Again not very high scoring but fun and enjoyable to watch.

It’s interesting, I definitely agree that the overall for world isn’t as good as it was, however the overall for open class is WAY HIGHER

Yea, I’ve seen a few open videos that really shocked me with great quality. Q2 and Meraki obviously. But several others. Some of the open groups are cleaner than world groups.

​@@agedoutpodcast It makes you wonder what they deem the difference between the top level of Open and the "entry level" for World. You could classify yourself into a group above your grade, so the "entry level" doesn't mean the "bottom" of World in theory. I may just be waffling but it does make you wonder just how good can an Open group get before they'll be reclassified. That standard is also going to change over time as the activity grows and Open class starts having more and more outstanding groups.

@@jvbluthere’s a committee of highly experienced designers/instructors and admin with a boatload of experience in all the classes that review groups on the bubble all season. They do a great job given the task. The prime criteria is skill sets being asked of the performers, more so than the achievement of those skills. Meaning, a group could be absolutely crushing intermediate skills at the highest level and still be an open class ensemble while a lower tier world group is struggling to play what is likely an overwritten book of advanced skills for the performers. Simultaneous responsibility is also a huge factor in determining the skill set being asked of the performers beyond the written book alone. I’m not on the committee, but know everyone on there and they are as legit as it gets.

How do you guys handle when to be in the lot vs in the arena? I have tickets for all day saturday

I usually just take a screen shoot of the performance times for open class and world class once they’re determined Friday night on the WGI website. Then we will kind of float in and out based on what we want to check out. We will watch all of PIW inside finals night though.

I really wish Redline could get out of the basement. I remember almost a decade ago the first iteration of Redline and they were finalists consistently. I tried out there, didn’t March cause I was poor and has no desire to do any fundraising. It was a total party though when I did go up. Also. Upper Deck Percussion. Deep cut.

AQ's music is such a vibe this year and most of their points are going to come from music. They'll come out with a stupid dense book with a lot of depth and play it incredibly well and then the show itself just doesn't really bring much to the table this year. The single complaint I have about their music is the lack of transitions. I think they play much better than their show and that's going to carry them. I want my friends to succeed over there though, and I have full faith in them. On another note, RCC's Front sounded like a MIDI file months ago it's actually obscene. Even in a room that normally would be realtively boom-y and wet.

It's hard to say who's gonna be where when all it takes is one judge, who's either full of himself (most of them are) and create a big enough spread/be the difference, in a group placing in a certain spot or in the top 3. Last year, I forgot his name, but putting Rhythm X like 7th in music was just ridiculous. It's gonna be a total war zone this year 😂😂

I could see X as high as 2nd if their props open and close correctly and don't create a distraction. the Broken City snare line does seem pretty inexperienced and I could see them 4-5 range. flip flopping with MCM. I do feel like it could be Pulse, RCC, X, Broken City, MCM is probably how it falls 1-5.

Matrix does this same thing every year you mention and yet they always finish higher than you predict. If they drum better this year that should be a lock. It's not for everybody but they found a niche that makes them unique.
