Ageism and Sexism

I’m a 74-year-old man. I’ve subscribed to your channel for probably ten years. The first of your videos that I watched had you in a tiny house on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. I ended up going to the very spot (in Santa Cruz) where I studied Spanish for a month in August. It was lovely. I like watching your videos because you’re eccentric, and it’s fun listening to what you have to say. You’re not loud or angry, but you are honest with your opinions. You’re very “cool.” I’m going to Antigua, Guatemala, and Copan Ruinas in two weeks, leaving on August 16. I’ll travel with two younger friends and hopefully that will protect me from ageism. I assume you’re quite a bit younger than I. People say I look, “good for my age.” You and I both look pretty good, if you don’t mind my saying.

Omg how disgusting 🙄! Some boys never grow up to be men, they grow up to be immature little man-child’s… guys like that love the internet, it allows them to spew toxic masculinity and say things online they would NEVER have the balls to say to a woman’s face, because they’re actually cowards in real life. I’m sorry you had to deal with that, but good on you for putting him in his place. PS: this is “aloha” btw, don’t know if you remember me by that handle or not lol. KZbin changed my name, not sure if they only did that for “legacy accounts” or for everyone, but they changed my name to my email that I used to sign up with like 12 years ago, which is obviously problematic 🙄, so I had to change it and they wouldn’t let me pick “aloha” again. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This is the truth! You are right. Many cowards would never have the balls to say things in person that they then write online. But it felt good to get if off my chest and share with others who may experience ageism, did we meet in Hawaii? Thanks for writing and stay tuned for more! Oh yes I do remember your handle Aloha!

@@MaryBartnikowski Unfortunately no, we didn’t meet in Hawai’i. You were “recommended” to me here on KZbin because I watch Hawai’i videos and you were making videos about Hawai’i & so I watched & watched your older videos too and I was impressed with how respectful you are to host cultures you’re visiting (most tourists are NOT, at least not in Hawai’i), so I subscribed and have been ever since. You also make frequent trips/videos about Mexico & I love Mexico, been there a couple of times and plan to retire there part time between Mexico and Hawai’i because no one can afford to retire full time in Hawai’i alone… well soooome people can, like Oprah, but Oprah I am not lol… but that’s just the plan, and we know how plans go. omigawd! Unbelievable! Astounding is right! Man, I tell ya, I never knew what hit me once I experienced the invisibility of middle-age for the first time. That shit is for real! It can be a blessing, but also a sad, disappointing reality. Mary, you are such a doll. Your style and beauty stood out to me when I first met you. And you are blessed with that gorgeous figure. Thank you my Dear, I appreciated meeting you on the road in Oregon and trading tales of travel :) and thank you for your kind comments -- yes we won't let the haters get us down and I have noticed that in Europe ageism isn't so common as it is in the USA. One reason to love it -- but there are several! Appreciated your thoughts so much! Now it is just the truth of the matter when confronted with ignorant haters: talk to the hand!

One more thing I forgot to mention in this Danielle in the video, the man who said all this ageist content to me also said, that I would be a woman who could be tricked by a Nigerian "lover" online. As if. Unbelievable.

YES! And he kept commenting again but here's the thing, I won't convince a person who doesn't understand or get it, I tried once and then saw it just encouraged him so I deleted his boorish comments. He has nothing better to do than hide behind his computer.
