Oh shit, the Tomahawk. I remember that piece of shit. People who didn't know what the fuck they were talking about were saying that it was going to kill Faraday Future and then go after Tesla. Bunch of talk around the automotive enthusiast community about it. We started tearing into the bullshit almost as soon as it showed up. That electric motor is actually a speaker, the cutaway is actually a Photoshopped promotional image of the Fisker Karma roadster prototype that died in development, and the "footage" of the car is actually a series of 3D renders of a generic supercar model they bought (or might've stolen) from a 3D model website.
@malcolmtoney93427 жыл бұрын
VulpesHilarianus That's where the design is from! Everytime I saw that thing I always had this odd feeling like I had seen it in some box art for a old monitor, or as a gineric car in the back round of a commercial. (this probably explains some of the complete disregard in some areas for basic design proportions, as it was never meant to be an actual vehicle.)
@StopDropRetro7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if they're right, the Fisker Karma roadster would make sense to me but the proportions look all wrong, the nose seems a little too short to be that. Also, the door handles still don't match. Also, while I have seen the CGI promo shots, the video footage is definitely from a running car, even if it's not under electric power.

The sketch of the car shows all wheel drive (with two sets of unequal length driveshafts which brings alot of problems already), but they plan on using a corvette front axle? Also, they claim to have a "prototype", but it's a rear wheel drive mid engine car, which behaves completely different from an AWD car, so the prototype is nothing more than a rolling styling concept. I would understand if they just figured out the layout and the drivetrain with a petrol engine and later put an electric motor in it's place, but this is pretty much different car.
@Samqdf7 жыл бұрын
I would be interested to how as to why does unequal length driveshafts pose a problem? I thought it was the norm on front wheel drive cars? You make a really good point about the front axle though, you can't just convert something like that to have a drive system through it.
@frido157 жыл бұрын
Sam Quad it introduces "torque steer", meaning the car will pull to the side of the longer shaft. It is really common on powerful FWD cars with this setup. On a front wheel drive car you just hold on tight to the steering wheel when you are flooring it and the car will go straight, but on the rear axle you can't do that, which is why you wont find rear diffs that aren't centered under the car. Furthermore, as the name "torque steer" implies, the effect increases as more torque is applied to the shafts. So you can imagine what it would be like in combination with electric motors.
@Samqdf7 жыл бұрын
That makes a lot of sense, thanks for the answer. I am pretty sure this would also explain why I have this much less in my later model Corolla that the one I used to have, I think they made significant improvements when the driveline design to held equalise the drive-shaft lengths. To me this very relevant point you made shows even further how limited the theory backing this concept car really is, looking at their vague diagram I see no reason why they couldn't of put the differential in the center and offset the motors to suit. They could of compensated for the offset weight with the placement of some of the battery packs. But no it looks like all they did is make a simplistic diagram with the least amount of effort to fool the majority.

The only healthy way to think about crowdfunding is that you're making a donation. Said donation purchases you neither real property or equity. All you receive is a promise that you will receive a reward when the project completes successfully. Most likely, you will have no recourse if the project fails. There have been some successful lawsuits, but you should behave as if you have nothing more than the word of the project's leaders that they will do their best to do what they said. Despite these caveats, a crowdfunding pledge _can_ be a rational investment in some cases. You certainly shouldn't participate unless you've considered the probability of failure & the likelihood that the project would do just as well without the backing of people like you. Back the project if you won't be devastated if you get nothing and a success means you'll get something you value that you probably wouldn't get otherwise. Do *not* just think "yeah I want to buy this, so I'll give them the money before they've even made it." (PS: There are many different definitions of "investment," but a fairly general one is to give up money or effort with the expectation that it will, on average, reward you with something of greater utility in the future. That future utility doesn't have to be cash.)
@StopDropRetro7 жыл бұрын
and what about when they don't do their best to do what they said? Your opinion seems to bar any type of recovery by backers who were swindled.
