Did you know you can play boomba with this box? It's a game in which you throw it as hard as you can at someones shoulder blade, then turn around and they do it back. You take turns until someone gives up. Usually people play with oranges, but I think the creator would be happy to field test his controller/box/alchemical contraption personally, with a pro pitcher.

Was clicking around today and came across this video again, and I gotta say, the blinking mechanic actually isn't such a bad thing for them to work on first if their project is intended as a cute novelty item. It was obviously intended to help make their big scary eyeball trashcan look less scary and less like it's from Portal 2 and is about to release the nerve toxin. Seriously, they should have turned their project into a horror film about an evil robot. Since the time I watched this, I have worked alot on my RetroPie install on my Raspberry PI and I gotta say, RetroPie is so amazing. Ghutom you can do that in every country. The problem is when you give/sale the copy. You own 1 copy of the media your free to do whatever you want whit that 1 copy use it, gift it, re sell it or make 1million copys as long as your the one using those 1million copys. But once you sell one of them million copys you are no longer the rightfully owner of the media that came from the original disk. Hope this help whit understanding what is iligal and not

My cousin lives in one of those countries, it's called Mexico. Sure they say piracy is illegal but that's just for show, when I was there to buy some uh, sexual education film guides, there were cops in flea markets known for carrying nothing but pirated EVERYTHING. COPS, buying (or just straight taking) pirated merch. And I'm not joking about this. But then again those cops were wearing gold chains and from what my cousin told me those are the kind of cops nobody fucks with, because no good cop worrying about his safety would wear a gold chain in that part of town (in the D.F., for Mexican's, we were in Tepito, for you non-Mexican's kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYqud2pjrbqlppo ). My cousin told me only corrupt cops wear gold chains especially in bad parts of town because they don't give a fuck who they shoot. Not that corrupt cops go around just killing people but if you fuck with them they won't be talking you in the station, they'll just take you somewhere deserted and put a bullet in your head. That is if they decide to even take you anywhere, they'd probably just shoot you there and call it self defense.

No kidding. Licensing is the biggest elephant in the room. Like, whenever I read stupid comments about 'why does the SNES mini only have 21 games? Surely you can just dump every game ever made on such a device. It's just a bunch of ROMS' Yeah, that's TECHNICALLY true, but it's not legally true. If you don't give a damn about any laws whatsoever, making a single device that can play all 1455 SFC games in existence, and the NTSC and PAL SNES collection (so about 2400 titles and variants)... Making an emulation device that can run those games and includes the entire collection indeed is not that hard. It's only a few gigabytes of files, emulators are pretty well refined at this point, and cheap hardware can run one (especially if you can optimise the emulation code you use specifically for it.) All well and good. But now imagine you have to do it LEGALLY. The technical challenge is as simple as it ever was. But now you have to get the explicit agreement of probably at least 150 different game companies, some of which might no longer exist. (in which case you have to figure out where the legal rights to it went.) And that doesn't even cover games that were built on 3rd party licences. Such as those with separately licensed music (not super-likely in snes times, but would apply to games such as GTA and many racing games from the mid 90's onwards), film or TV licences (eg star wars, star trek, or say a lethal weapon or robocop game or whatever it might be), or a large proportion of sports games which contain licensed content from various sporting bodies, and sometimes even individual sporting stars. That, is pretty difficult. And then there's money. - let's say by some miracle, every single company agrees. Now you probably have to pay them. So what, you might ask? Well, let's say every single one of them wants $0.10 per game per device sold. Sounds pretty reasonable. I mean, $0.10 why the hell not? Well... Remember when we had about 2400 games for a complete library? That's $240 in licenses. (assuming third party rights holders don't want extra for titles that have such licensing issues) Now... What does that mean? The illegal version of this device can be sold for maybe $50 to $80 just to cover hardware costs and maybe whatever tiny bit of R&D was involved. The LEGAL version has to cover those same hardware and R&D costs, but now also has to pay that $240 in license fees per unit. So the LEGAL version of this device costs somewhere in the region of $290 to $320. Ouch. And that's on the assumption the rights-holders to the games only want 10 cents per game! What if they want $1.00? I mean in isolation that still sounds like a perfectly reasonable amount for an older game... But now our LEGAL emulation device containing the entire SFC and SNES library costs about $2500, and nobody sane would ever buy it. People gloss over this legal stuff so easily, and then wonder why these legal, above-board devices seem so 'bad' compared to improvised emulation devices loaded with illegal ROMS. Well, duh. Maybe if you actually thought it through... But no... I mean, some level this makes a great argument about copyright laws being too strong. But with the laws the way they are, this is the reality. And bringing up illegal solutions and wondering why the legal ones are so bad means you clearly aren't thinking it through. At all. There's actually a recent a research paper on the subject of copyright terms - it's conclusion was, given the actual original intent of copyright laws, and changes in significance of any given work over time, under current conditions, the MAXIMUM possible length of a copyright term should be no more than 28 years. And there's even enough circumstantial evidence in the data (after all, the data isn't perfect) that suggest it might need to be as little as 7 years of protection, after which things become public domain. This is part of the research. The other main conclusion is that as more and more works become available, copyright protection should get weaker over time. Eg, 100 years ago, a 50 year term might have made sense, but 100 years later it should probably be that 7 year figure. So... As time goes by, the amount of protection copyright offers should get weaker and weaker. Instead, what we see in reality is the opposite. As time goes by, copyright protections get stronger and stronger. (they currently stand at something like life of author + 75 years, which effectively amounts to a work being protected for in the region of 100-150 years in practice.) Based on the research this would appear to be the opposite of the desired outcome considering the intent of copyright laws. Of course, the ongoing and rather disingenuous attempts to reframe copyright as 'intellectual property', which invokes the ideas of ownership and property, and the notion that people shouldn't be able to take your 'property' from you has made challenging this stuff pretty difficult. The problem with framing copyright as 'intellectual property' is that it's dangerous to think of it in this way. effectively you are trying to claim ownership of thoughts and ideas. This is the equivalent of saying someone else isn't allowed to think these things, because you thought them first. And because ideas and concepts tend to be very broad by their nature... Consider what it means. Say you have a car, and it's your property. Fair enough. It's a singular item, cannot meaningfully be shared (I mean, it can, sort of, but only over time - only one person can use a car at any given moment.) The number of people that can think or make use of the same concept at once is basically unlimited. Any limits put in place are artificial in nature. But now think about what it means for someone to own 'intellectual property'. What if, instead of owning a car, you owned the IDEA of a car. Now, because of this, nobody else is allowed to even THINK about cars unless they have your permission. You, as a singular person are denying everyone else in the world the right to think, draw, build or do anything at all with the concept of a car, unless they have your permission to do so. That is really quite messed up. Anyway... Sorry for that largely tangential rant. XD (though copyright laws and legal issues around playing old games are inherently intertwined of course, because Copyright laws are the foundation of such legal issues in the first place.)

@nexus3756
@nexus3756 6 жыл бұрын
a big problem to with this concept now is that any console designed like this will lose. not to time, not to the flaws of the idea. but to the simple fact that they will never be able to compete with a gaming pc. if you wanted to simply emulate your games you can build a pc for 400 dollars or less easily that will emulate any game perfectly. that is it wont run into a problem of not powerful enough hardware to do it. any game that can be emulated will run significantly better on a gaming pc at the price point these emulation box consoles will run it at. and a gaming pc is a pc. it can do anything. the only reason people buy consoles is for exclusives and even that is becoming irrelevant. exclusives arent selling consoles like they used to. look at the xbox one. and ps4 right now. the sales are in decline. because instead of actually providing an experience that is unique to the console like nintendo is smart enough to do with the switch in addition to having games the consoles were basically made to be bad gaming pc's. the 360 came out focused on games and pushed hardware that was actually better than a pc could do at the time. the newest generation came out already like 5 years behind current pc tech. so how is a console like this gonna survive when the consoles that are acutally successful cannot even maintain their success?

Summary: Sarcasm. Not to point to the most obvious point. But it is a pretty obvious point that the video starts with Cool Stuff Association. * It is clearly someone who know a little about about Hyperspin or Launchbox and thought I make a sarcastic video about that so people will notice me. He merely testing if people will give money to anything.. Also that controle asterix looks awesome :D - was kinda funny to watch!

I want to know: Can Big Eye work as a trash can? Because srsly, I don't want a big scary eyeball from Portal 2 looking at me when I'm trying to throw stuff away in my trash can. About the "Gamer Archive" -- It's totally plausible that this guy is going to take a Raspberry PI running RetroPie and put it inside an ugly plastic shell that looks like some books and sell it with a cheap hand-breaking controller from China. That could totally be a thing. I bought a Raspberry PI 3 with a classy clear plastic case and installed RetroPie on it, so its not hard.

It’s been a long time since you made this vid. I love your stuff man, but I suggest you go do a bit of deeper digging into this guy. He’s no scammer, he’s a dreamer who genuinely always tries to help people. He’s dropped off the radar now, but last I heard, he was pretty much bankrupt * homeless because he spent all his time + money trying to help/solve the homeless problem in his home place (at his own cost) I get this was a “stupid” idea. But the guy has a BIG heart + always seems to put others before himself. I hope he’s ok, + best wishes to you too.

I had onlive via my isp giving out free subscriptions for a while. It never worked very well due to the service lagging and disconnecting constantly or the client crashing. Fps games or shooters kept freezing which ruined the immersion, plus the dynamic resolution would degrade horribly making the gamescreen look worse than a 240p KZbin video at random times. Strategy games worked better, but after a few disconnects or client crashes I just gave up and watched other peoples games instead (which was a very cool feature for the time). It was a good idea but a few years too early, most peoples internet just wasnt good enough for it to work properly.

That short one eyed robot just needs some arms or implements. Hows about a plunger, so it can pick things up and clean out the sink. And if it needs to defend your home maybe some kind of defensive weapon too. Then when the bombs drop we can use them as a protective shell to endure the fallout in. Maybe it could use a voice too. Thinking something mechanical and shouty, with lights that flash when it talks. ...I'm sensing a slippery slope here.

Hypothetically, if he got every single game working perfectly, how expensive would the console have to be to actually make money with all the license fees and the space it would take to have all of those games stored digitally? Also, how do you play games with a sensor or touchscreen of some sort?

I think what Gary was imagining was something like Stadia or PS Now... Horribly imagined and pitched but potentially another example of "the early worm" effect? (Note: obviously Stadia sucks a fat one and is extremely limited, technically a centralized game streaming platform is possible but in reality and with copyright and licensing is likely to never happen unless a giant corporation decides it's worth it is super unlikely)

Great video, but as a technicality, you can run any algorithm on any machine. So technically if you were to do ALOT of work, you could definitely run GTA on a C64. The problem is you would need a seperate video adapter, and a way to archive each frame rendered. Assuming the engine is running natively, which would mean you would need to recompile for the 6502 and exhaustively expand the long term memory capacity. Even then IF everything doesn't explode and all the OS calls and extra assets required were brought over to this, you COULD possibly be playing 4K Grand Theft Auto at a smooth 1 frame per ~3-5 years.

Its strangely ironic how we've actually gotten close to a crowdfunded/pre-order campaigned GamerArchive not with PCs & Emulators, but with Polymega. And even then, its not as extensive with the lack of trackball support, but the additional new light gun for flat-screens is certainly a good step.

No, I've never reviewed either and I only own the Dingoo A320. I used to hear bad things about the Revo k101 build quality wise but they seem to have picked up their game, I can't say for sure though. I can tell you that the A320 is great but no longer in production, hard to find and there are better devices out there for $100. If you can find a Gemei A330 it should be just as good, I don't know if they're still around though. So look into that or take a gamble with the k101. Hope that helps
