Aside from him being an extremely fine actor, it gives me more respect for Omar Sharif that he took the time to help Alec Guinness in brushing g up on his Arab accent. I was still very young when "Lawrence" came out. All the teachers and other young women around me were gushing about how cute Peter O' Toole was, and waiting for the movie to come out. Later, they were all walking out of the theaters in a state of shock, saying, "Why didn't they tell us about Omar?!!". When he showed up on that horse, they all forgot about Peter, and suddenly realized why Grandma was always taking about "The Sheik", with Valentino.

Hi Age of Vintage, how are you going ? This is a brilliant insight into the life of Omar Sharif. His first English-speaking role came when he was cast in Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O'Toole in 1962. He was nominated for an Academy award as best supporting actor, & a Golden globe award for best supporting actor & for New Star of the Year. Sharif was one of the many star's in MGM'S The Yellow Rolls Royce in 1964, playing a Yugoslav patriot, the film was a huge success. Sharif had his first lead role in Genghis Khan in 1965, the 4.5 Million dollar film unfortunately was not a huge box office hit. His next film was perhaps one of his most famous, Dr Zhivago the film was a huge hit & Sharif won The Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion picture Drama. Dr Zhivago remains one of the Top Ten Highest Grossing Films of all time. Sharif was also praised for his portrayal of Nicky Arnstein married to Fanny Brice in Barbra Streisand's first film role in Funny Girl in 1968. Other films included Mayerling in 1968 with Catherine Deneuve, The Tamarind Seed with Julie Andrews in 1974, Juggernaut in 1974, Ashanti in 1979, & The Traveller in 2009. Omar Sharif was an Egyptian actor of International acclaim, known for his dashing good looks & his many iconic roles. Omar Sharif passed away from a heart attack on 10th of July 2015 in Cairo Egypt, he was 83 years old. Thanks Age of Vintage for this wonderful video. Love Love from Australia 🇭🇲🎬📽💛💚💙💕❤💖💋💋💋💋💋

I will never forget forget seeing him appear in Lawrence of Arabia. He was stunning. I loved Funny Girl so much that I was to busy crying to notice that I'd left my fur hat in the cinema. I loved his voice. Recently I saw a documentary about him in which his son was interviewed. It was lovely to watch him. So thanks so much Dear Age of Vintage. I will be watching you from now on!

He was talented and gorgeous. I loved the part in Funny Girl right after the elopment when she sang "To tell the truth, it hurt my pride. The groom was prettier than the bride." Oh yeah. Loved him and I'm glad that we have his body of work to enjoy even though he is gone. Thanks for this very interesting video.

I loved Omar Sharif in every film I ever saw him in... He possessed more than extremely good looks and intelligence-though he had both in abundance. He was an unequivocally masculine presence, which made him irresistible on a visceral level (at least to this female), but also seemed lit from within: He had a lightness of being that shone through on the screen, and gave depth to his acting. I wish I could recall the title of the last film I saw him in, but I think it was French. He was an old man, and as charismatic as ever! His character was a Muslim named Ibrahim, who befriended a Jewish boy, who looked up to him as a surrogate father. His character dies in the film, and I found it so moving, so beautifully played... I’m still sorry that he’s no longer with us, but (especially for a smoker) he had a good run! RIP Michel/Omar: Your work here is done, and we will always love you.

I remember Omar Shariff in Funny Girl and Funny Lady. That movie made me love Barbara Streisand and I had the biggest crush on Shariff. He was fabulous in that movie. I vaguely remember him in Laurence of Arabia. mostly, it's the scene of him on his horse looking devastatingly handsome dressed in his desert garb. What is it about actors and acting that makes them so succeptible to having affairs? is it all the emotion they have to conjure up for the movies? Or is it that it's already in their character makeup to be unfaithful? Which is first, the trait or the environment? Ah well, r.i.p; Shariff. You were a legend in your time.

Today,it's all just silly! Can't kiss a person, love a person because of religion! When he started out he was Christian, only changed to marry,so I feel his heart was still the same,Christian Muslim,it didn't make him who he was! He was a great actor!

How sad that folks should have a say in who you are or not ALLOWED TO LOVE. There was a great chemistry and affection between Sharif and Streisand, on and off screen back in the day,,....... and their 'LOVE FOR EACH OTHER' should've been NOBODY'S business but THEIR OWN. RIP Omar Sharif.
