Hey all. Just went through the stick replacement on my DC Agetec Stick, using this video as the main reference. To everyone on the channel, you've got my sincere thanks for making this tool of reference for making this modification. That being said i'de like to leave make light of two problems I ran into. First, when removing the mounting plate of the Sanwa, from the body of the stick itself, I had great difficulty, and ended up stripping a screw. Sanwa seems to have put a type of glue on the bottom of the screw and into the slot after the plate was secured. This led to difficulties unscrewing. Maybe it was my tools, maybe its something they do with certain model sticks, either way I found that heating the bases up just a bit let loose the screws and made for easy removal, just a heads up. The second problem has to do not only with this video but most reference videos I found. When saudering the wires from the old harness to the new stick I found that the Diagram is incorrect. The Agetec wiring harness order is Y,O,R,Br,B, (orange and red are flipped in the diagram), however when matching up the colors the Diagram is correct (Red goes to Green & Orange goes to Red). Just a heads up I figured I would follow the top to bottom order for the diagram instead of matching up the colors, which just led to a quick test, de-sauder and re-sauder. Anyways! Stick feels great, dremeling the plastic case to fit the stick, drilling and saudering all went off without a hitch. I highly suggest the stick modification, especially if you are passionate about keeping you dreamcast setup up to date and feeling the best it can. Keep dreaming and thanks BNG for all the videos!

Thanks for the comment dude, this vid is pretty old so I dont remember much about the wiring to be honest but I hope your comment helps anyone else that might run into any issues. We definitely never had problems unscrewing the panel but I bought it used so someone might have done it before we did this mod too. Ill pin this comment so everyone can see it!

Thanks for this guide, just did the mod, really useful! About the confusion with the stick wiring, it depends what rotation you put the circuit in. I kept mine to the same as the original board (so the wires come out around 8 o'clock, near the main board). Like this the correct wiring to the Sanwa is: black to black yellow to green orange to orange red to yellow brown to red unless different Agetecs are using different coloured wires. A way to make sure is follow on the circuit from the pin to the up/down/left/right switch on both boards and writing down which goes to which.

Do not use a dremel to do this mod. All you need is a metal cutting stepper bit in 30mm. It will make a perfect 30mm hole.

@bmmcwhirt
@bmmcwhirt 3 жыл бұрын
@@MartinIrwin Not much you can do different there if you want to go with a Sanwa stick. Keep in mind they grabbed some Sanwa parts and did this with what they had on hand. Planned out this is how I would do it. I would probably cut a metal plate that fits in that recess on the top with counter sunk holes. I'd like to prolong the plastic as long as possible and that would go a long way. I would also not splice wires like that I would just put a new JST(I think that's a JST, I would have to look it up to be sure) end on. Same thing with the buttons.small bit on hot glue on the pin connector and JST connectors so they don't come lose. I would also add a small bit of hoe glue on each button just to help keep them from spinning. With out proper holes they will eventually spin. What wasn't around when this video was made is the Paradise Arcade OBS-MX. I would be using those in my Sanwa buttons but I'd be replacing the switches with filmed and lubed Glorious Panda switches. I also have a Link Quick Release JLF Shaft that I would use.

hi, well i will do this mod soon, as i don't have a dremel, will use cuting peper bit for the buttons, and probably fibreglass for the stick, i think, by forcing the screws you can probably go through the plastic...for the easy wiring i bought harness for this stick, easyer, no soldering.

After performing this mod on my personal stick, I've realized that you really don't need to buy new wires outside of the ground Daisy chain and JLF harness. if anything, save yourself ~$5 and buy .110" quick disconnects and crimp them onto the wires from the original 6 button harness. Easily saves 10 minutes in the process.

@@BNGamesYT Hello, just wanted to ask, just to be sure. Does it matter if the wiring isn't the rainbow color, pretty hard to find those (probably due to your mod suggestions) does it matter if I use the white ones, they have the same description and everything. Only difference is they're solid white. Thanks in advance.

Back away from the Dremel! Focus Attack has plexis for this puppy now. As for octagon gates vs. square gates? Why not both? You know, in the *same gate*. Check out Seimitsu's LSX-NOBI-01.. Standard has a bubbled square gate and Pro has an N64-inspired gate.. Plus in our case we actually modeled up a lovely little solution for Seimitsu's LS-32. Tried doing a Sanwa GT but got the measurements off so bad it just... does *not* fit correctly at all. Can force it, but it's pretty awful.

Sorry you lost me at the drilling for the stick. Why didn't you drill to fit the screws for the new jlf? And then what happened when you ran into a problem? It wasn't clear to me what problem you came across and what you did to address it (it sounded like you just still used the screws that were on the stock agetec stick?)

Cool mod. The biggest flaw in the design of the DC stick, is the fact that the console recognises it as a stick, and not a standard controller. This means that games have to actually support it, in order to use it. An additional mod, would be to use an MC Cthulhu, or DC pad hack, so that the console would recognise it as a controller instead, so you could use it on all DC games. Bubble bobble doesn't even support the arcade stick.

18:09 I got a little bit triggered :) Just because there are 8 possible directions on a joystick and an octagonal gate has 8 directional guides doesn't mean it's superior to a square gate. It's the other way around. A square gate is all about freedom of accessing the microswitches. An octagonal gate will restrict the possibilities and give you 8 annoying notches. If you press right on a square gate you have the possibility to also tap/press the down direction freely. On an octagonal gate you have to ride the gate back and down to access the down/forward direction. And Japanese sticks are designed so that you play with the microswitches with muscle memory and the gate is there only to keep the movement not going too far and to guide into the corners but it doesn't restrick any movement. I grew up with American Happ arcade parts too where there was a bat top and 8 directions so the way to use Japanese and American joysticks is a lot different. Octagonal gates were only installed in less than 0.05% of cabinets because they were almost never needed. They have only gained popularity through American youtubers who had no knowledge of how a Japanese arcade stick with a square gate works. However everyone should use whatever they prefer using.

Hey guys, really nice looking mod and gives me inspiration to change the stick/buttons to Sanwa. During your modding could anyone explain as to whether I could change the yellow start button to a traditional white player 1 button style instead? I don't like to advertise anyone's site but this is the example of the button (or similar) I'd like to replace the yellow one with. www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/IL-Arcade-Start-Button.html Basically I'm currently designing a Soul Calibur gaming coffee table where the stick and buttons will be housed/recessed onto the table. I'll create a housing for the VMU but the yellow button is horrible colour for what I plan in doing as my colour scheme. Any help in right direction would be great and apologies for the Web address.
