Each year, the Notorious Blair Street Association of Silverton Colorado, hosts the Antique Truck and Car Show. This was my first visit and I was lucky to be invited to go along with a unique bunch of characters from the Grand River Chapter of the ATHS, in order to record the event on video. After 4 days of video capture, I had so much material, that I have broken the event up into chapters to keep it from being excessively long.
Chapter 1 - Grand Junction arrival, museum tour and pre-trip
Chapter 2 - Rendezvous with convoy and drive to Silverton
Chapter 3 - The Notorious Blair Street sponsored Silverton Truck and Car Show and pancake breakfast with John Miles
Chapter 4 - Return Trip to Grand Junction

Wow, this is an excellent video! Looking at these old trucks and the old machinery while listening to that background music, one's imagination runs away with them. I could imagine what many of these grand old trucks looked like in their hey-day. You wonder what the people were like operated them, how many hands had been on those steering wheels......and the stories those trucks could tell.....if only they could talk!

The quiet, haunting music in the background is perfect, really enhances that feeling of loss, of isolation, of time standing still. Like the junkyard scene in "Duel".

I don't remember the junkyard scene, but it's funny you mention "Duel" because that's what I was thinking too. The drive to the boneyard from the trucker's point of view was like being in "Duel" only from the truck driver's position (ha ha) !😁

Thanks for the tour of the "treasure yard". I am always amazed that out west you can leave stuff like that and it doesn't rust. Around here (northeast US) vehicles rust away even if they aren't driven in on the road in the salt.

Between the editing and uploading of the video, I noticed that the bone yard scene got all framey looking, like your watching it with a flickering neon light fixture on it. It seems to be due to the image stabilization. I'd have to film that scene all over, to make it right. So, sorry about that, better equipment on the way...

Now THAT is cool! My dad drove log trucks for Crown Zellerbach in the 70s. About 4 yrs ago, on those same logging roads, I found a '50s short school bus, an IH, converted to a crew bus, and abandoned in the woods at LEAST 50 years ago. All that was left was the roof, engine, axles, parts of the frame, and debris. I found a piece painted with "Crown Z" between each rusty edge. It's on my patio.

It is, the owner knows what everything is, which ones he can start by bringing out a battery, which ones require a pull start, lol. Everything that you point at and ask, "would you sell that?" he has a reason he has to keep it, like, that was the first D-9 I operated for the county and bought it 35 years later. He's in his late 70's and even if he had 13 million dollars and a 100,000 sq ft shop with 30 employees, he would never be able to restore everything. But, the good news, is that a lot of ATHS folks know him and when that day comes, they will not let it go to the scrappers...

Thanks... It's hard to walk on all of that uneven ground without the camera bobbing up and down and my version of a steady cam just wasn't enough. I wanted to get that smooth flying effect, like your a ghost hovering through the place, so I slowed it down to 10 percent and added stabilization, thats what caused the flickering. Then I tried putting it back to normal speed and it looked so fast that it looked cartoonish, so I put up with the flickering.

It's hard to imagine anyone with so much money they can just discard this kind of equipment. Lots there wish I could restore. Nice video - unfortunately after the first few video transitions it became very annoying. About 33% of the video was watery transitioning. I would have liked to have seen a few more seconds of each vehicle and much less water-like transitioning time. Could only watch about half the video because of that. But otherwise the way you handled the camera was great and of course I loved your subject matter!

I agree about the watery transitions and the great subject matter. But who is "discarding" these relics? Do they not still exist for preservation's sake? They're still here for us to enjoy and imagine. "Discarding" would have meant selling them as scrap metal, for $40 a ton, 40 years ago, as most of them went. I applaud this collector for saving the history of his company, industry, and region. No need to restore, in my book. I love em for what they are. Though I might single out one or two for a "sympathetic rebirth"; keeping all the history, charm, and patina intact, but making it run again. Just make it alive, not young.

Damn... I'm 58 and started driving truck for a living when I was 18. I learned to drive in these old trucks:~) The men I learned to drive not only trucks, but heavy equipment from, learned to drive from in the 30's and 40's... So, those are the ethics I learned and That's how I learned to drive truck, and in a lot of ways, to be a Man from those Men... Society sure has slid a LONG way down that hill... There are still allot of Great drivers out there. But Trucking has Sure changed... And, Not for the better! Drivers used to Stop to help one another, instead of the current drivers who Aim for you and it doesn't even cross their minds to Move Over a little for another driver who is broken down... for the most part, it seems as if common curtesy has gotten lost in the old graveyards along with this old equipment shown in this video... Man, I wish I could find an old Needle Nose tractor to restore...:~)
