I can't even begin to explain how much I respect this guy for being so open about his struggle with depression and drug abuse. I myself have experienced similar issues, but on the scale that Oli has had to deal with - mainly based around the fact that he is famous and he has an image to maintain - I genuinely admire his ability to overcome his addiction and his anxiety.

what he said about accepting that sadness and negativity being a part of life and coming to terms with yourself is great!. Cause a lot of the time therapists and people around you put the idea that you always need to be happy and sadness is a bad thing. But maybe there is something beautiful about letting the feeling fill you instead of hiding it from yourself. You learn a lot by listening an not judging your emotions just accepting them. Oli makes a really good point there. Thank you x

With out the bad you'd never have the context to understand good... so good wouldn't even really exist in our conciousness. Whenever there's something in life there's also its opposite & if you can see the potential for it, you can make it happen. But also the greater the thing is the greater the potential for its ability to effect you porportionate to your understanding gained through that context. Meaning the more ugly life can seem, the more beautiful it also can seem because you gained understanding living through that ugliness. Thats why its been said that life is possibly the loneliest thing there is because personal experience is subjective and no two ppl can share it on that personal level.

Oliver sykes, you have seriously changed my life around, since i started doing more than just looking at your music videos and watching these blogs of you my whole opinion of myself has changed , i have learnt you also suffer Adhd, depression i used to get so much shit for it and at school i was told i would never be good for Bring me the horzion that you would be disgusted as me being your fan which is ridiculous we suffer the same thing and they put me down for what you have, i look upto despite what anyone says you may not be a superhero to yourself but Oli i think your more than that, your music is very connecting your emotions shared and just the stroy behind them it all makes sense it shows who you are and I can conncet to it, cant go through a day without watching your music videos, and I hope to meet you In Auckland this year during your gig. :)

Nakita Bunyan hey I used to think I had adhd for a long time so I can understand and emphasize .. But if you look at it as having a gift and having a bit more energy than others it's not a disorder . We just have to find ways to let out all the extra energy . For ex, meditation and exercising has changed my life and I no longer label my self as having a disorder. We are different but that's okay there's nothing wrong with that

BMTH,and especially Oli,have really helped me through mentally and emotionally. usually I over think the smallest of things and I get paranoid, and I've been able to control that better, and now, whenever I realize I'm over thinking too deeply,I can take a deep breath and a step back, and put whatever I was thinking about, off to the side. Emotionally, usually I used to bottle it up until I exploded...and then act like it never happened...now,I just don't care who says anything,I let out my emotions the moment I need to let them out. Now I'm more accepting that I sometimes uncontrollable roller coaster, and tidal wave emotions...but I've also been controlling them better and making sure they don't get to the level of self-destructiveness. I've been more and more accepting of myself.... but you see,I really wouldn't have been able to do this,if it hadn't been for BMTH,and Oli.

Oliver is like my soul mate. I just went through such a life revelation on my own, hitting rock bottom and realizing what a piece of shit I had been to myself and others. And god damn it hurt to come to terms with it and deal with it. such a hard pill to swallow but I am a stronger, way more emotionally vulnerable and in tuned with who I am. And it's crazy that this album came out at the same time I was dealing with and changing myself on my own. I don't ever look up the actual people in bands, like I don't care what you look like or what your name is, who you're dating in Hollywood, etc - if I like your songs and they speak to me a certain way I listen and that's how I have always been. So today was the first time I ever looked up the people behind my second favorite band and I like all of their music. been a fan for what's coming up to 10 years now and I love every bit of them, the way their sound has evolved just like they have in their lives. it's really.. special. This album really helped me through horrible moments that I was overcoming and I can't wait to hear more from them. whichever way they evolve next, I'll always be a diehard fan of their music and their words. Thank you to all the members, producers, distributors of BMTH.

1:50 This is so important. Don't expect that things will get better just because you have hit rock bottom. "Coming out the other side"-stories can be a dangerous thing to romanticize. For many people there truly is a point of no return.

funny how Oli says they arent really a band to knock out 30 songs and pick the best 10 as that sounds exactly what they are doing with their new album from recent interview...

It's kind of going to sound a little corny and really geeky but I was making a playlist while ago LOL(told ya) and I named it bright side of the dark. Then I'm watching this interview and Bam there it is. I think we may be on the same page of our recovery or something. Cool coincidence anyway. I don't know I'm a weirdo I just like stuff like that.

I'd first like to say that I don't think you BMTH sounds like NIN or Oasis. They have their own unique sound in my opinion and the lyrics are amazing. I've always been interested in Journalism and Photography and at one time founded an organization, called Music Mania that promoted local bands in our surrounding areas. Which was an amazing time, so as I sit and listen to Oliver talk about how time changes and the differences between each album. I can truly understand where he is coming from. My son, was the one to first introduce me to Bring me the Horizon with the song Diamonds are Forever. I listen to a few more songs, and felt the bands was okay. Once Sempiternal came out, a few songs like Sleepwalking and Shadow Moses really started to hit home for me as I myself also suffered from an addiction in my life, and just felt like Oliver was inside my head. I had suffered such a traumatic experience in my life it pretty much consumed my soul, I quit doing Music Mania, I was basically numb to the world, and it was a long road I travel to come back from that shit hole place i was in. When "that's the spirit" came out, I fell completely in love with Bring Me The Horizon. Every song on that album hit home so hard on some many different levels. And as I sat and listened to Oliver give this interview I knew and felt exactly what he was talking about. The hurt and pain, feeling lost in the darkness all alone, and clawing your way back out. BMTH has inspired me in so many new ways and I actually have my 17 yr. old son to thank for that as he introduced me their music. I've come a long way since the tragedy that pretty much destroyed my soul, and I've worked my ass off the last few months to be able to even afford the nose-bleed section the the concert in PA in March so my son can see them. I've taken back up photography and journalism. BMTH isn't just a band to me, I feel a strong connection to them as their music brought me back from the dark and helped me shine again. I guess the moral of the story is that every one has felt some type of pain in their life and this band has helped you thru those rough times, and I guess in some crazy way it makes you feel better to know you are not alone. I intend to pursue my career in Photography and Journalism and I only hope one day to have the chance to interview/or work with this band. I know the pain and hurt that caused his music to cure me, but I often wonder what has hurt him so bad to feel this way. Oliver if I ever get the chance to meet you I'd just like to give you a hug and tell you its okay, we all fuck up, but we still stand strong. You have proven that, I have proven that and we don't need to prove it to anyone else but ourselves. And just thank you for bringing me back to life.

I think that what they and their new fans need to accept and implore is that without -t.I.w.t .e.o.y.s.w.m.f and c.y.b especially is they wouldn't b where they are without them. Yes I know they've moved on from that but I along with many others still love those albums and always will, and not near as much the newer stuff, but its that music that keeps my love for them alive, without it they would be "bmth who"

+nancyandkatie 101 that should be the case but some people here are massive hardcore fans who can't really accept the new album, drown or Sempiternal to an extent. Whilst others are newer fans who think the older albums are satanic death metal (than the comedy it is) and they'd rather stick with the newer relatable stuff. It's a matter of opinion.
