The other thing with the golf balls that has to be considered is that range balls go substantially shorter than a regular performance ball, so you’re probably cutting that difference difference in at least half

@@iancarrey4123It really depends on the motor and the battery used, but a very tiny motor and battery could be under 1kg, while still adding 100-200w which is a massive difference when comparing cyclist’s power output. They wouldn’t need a large motor and battery combo like you’d find on an ebike in the store, and the battery could be just a couple WH. That said, a bike that’s 1kg heavier than its competition should still raise suspicions instantly, as they usually weigh about 7kg.

well my main comment answers that for you it's a muscular full susp with lockout (nearly no pedal pump going up) vs an enduro emtb with massive pedal pump I still gained 1h30 out of a 4h00 ride up and down a small mountain 2800ft 21 miles climb on road, gravel trail descent on dirt wet leaves muds and rocks (igorge trail not meant for bicycles) (my emtb is EU road legal 25kph 15.5mph) the beefier susp and heavier weight made me go way faster going down on the emtb it's not a true 1:1 but that's the thing the motor allows you to run more travel without a lockout I would never do that climb without a lock on a regular mtb it's 10-20% uphill I've never seen any mtber there only road cyclists, the main gain tough was doing those 2800ft in one go no stop no slow down just pedaling up easy, you can only understand how much it's a cheat when you just did the same climb one day earlier on a muscular bike

Those banned shoes aren’t going to have much of effect on someone like you. But on a professional who eats a special diet, trains relentlessly, and has training from Kinematics professionals, those extra few watts saved on each stride is definitely going to give them an advantage. It might translate to a few seconds off their personal best, which can really make a difference on the world stage. Maybe even the difference between 3rd or 1st.

It’s a fun idea for a video, but it’s not very useful as an actual test. A cyclist’s road bike weighs about 7kg, and the motor and battery combo that the banned rider used was under 1kg. It was barely perceptible. It also only put out like 50w, but that can make a big difference with a professional cyclist. A cyclist having an extra 50w on a hill climb is a massive advantage and can allow you to gain a few seconds. On a mid drive ebike though, the extra weight is closer 8kg, and it puts out 250w, with a peak output of over 600w. So the difference is massive even to an amateur. As a professional rider, that would put you in world record times, as opposed to gaining a few seconds.

I did a 1:1 comparison with a muscular 120mm XC mtb vs 170mm enduro emtb climb a small mountain on road then go down a gorge dirt trail 21miles 2800ft muscular 04h00m emtb 02h31m most of the gain was going up as it's not exactly an easy one with 10-20% uphill it's usually road cyclist territory, note that if I had to do mostly flat even for 60 miles I would take the muscular XC bike as with EU speed limited ebike you hit a wall at 15.5mph and it's extremely annoying

This is why we leave science to scientists and not Chad's. Next time try not to do the test in the rain.

Shouldn't the ebike be compared to a race legal bike and answer how much the extra weight is offset by power addition.

I think the bike test should have been done with a regular cx hardtail bikevs the e bike. i bet the lighter weight would have shaved off at least a min. But of course, it wouldn't have changed the big picture.
