well my main comment answers that for you it's a muscular full susp with lockout (nearly no pedal pump going up) vs an enduro emtb with massive pedal pump I still gained 1h30 out of a 4h00 ride up and down a small mountain 2800ft 21 miles climb on road, gravel trail descent on dirt wet leaves muds and rocks (igorge trail not meant for bicycles) (my emtb is EU road legal 25kph 15.5mph) the beefier susp and heavier weight made me go way faster going down on the emtb it's not a true 1:1 but that's the thing the motor allows you to run more travel without a lockout I would never do that climb without a lock on a regular mtb it's 10-20% uphill I've never seen any mtber there only road cyclists, the main gain tough was doing those 2800ft in one go no stop no slow down just pedaling up easy, you can only understand how much it's a cheat when you just did the same climb one day earlier on a muscular bike

It’s a fun idea for a video, but it’s not very useful as an actual test. A cyclist’s road bike weighs about 7kg, and the motor and battery combo that the banned rider used was under 1kg. It was barely perceptible. It also only put out like 50w, but that can make a big difference with a professional cyclist. A cyclist having an extra 50w on a hill climb is a massive advantage and can allow you to gain a few seconds. On a mid drive ebike though, the extra weight is closer 8kg, and it puts out 250w, with a peak output of over 600w. So the difference is massive even to an amateur. As a professional rider, that would put you in world record times, as opposed to gaining a few seconds.
