This missile displays standard DCS AI route following waypoint behaviour. Unlike when we fly TOT manual visual navigation (e.g. 6 Day War campaign) where we fly TO the waypoint (So we can do our TOT & position checks) THEN turn with the heading to the next waypoint adjusted to account for the turn radius, DCS's AI always turns EARLY before the waypoint so that rejoins the planned track after the waypoint on the heading for the next leg. All the AI planes do it, and this slammer is displaying the identical behaviour... which is not surprising.

04/28/2022, the SLAM-ER is still not behaving like it does IRL. IRL the SLAM-ER is low observable and capable of the same terrain navigation as the BGM-109 Tomahawk. The SLAM-ER is one of the most intelligent missiles in the US arsenal and it has the highest accuracy of any missile in the US Navy. It will not only track a target but also digitally recognize the target incase it attempts to evade. I feel like the SLAM-ER is still in early access phase with more improvements to come over time.

I was surprised anyone said the SLAM-ER was stealthy. The shape should be a dead give away that it is not stealthy. Round shapes aren't stealthy when it comes to electromagnetic waves like radar or otherwise. I also haven't heard of SLAM-ER being stealthy IRL either so... I'm curious where this idea came from. Maybe someone mixed up the SLAM-ER with another missile, most likely the JASSM-ER. They both have the 'extended range' designation, both have the smart waypoint and terrain avoidance system, except the JASSM is actually stealthy. You can tell visually by the angular design. To be fair, you could always throw on some RAM coating on the SLAM-ER, but RAM is EXTREMELY expensive and high maintenance for a otherwise disposable weapon system... Even then, it probably isn't sufficient to turn it in to a true stealth missile given the shape.

If you press ctrl+f11 the camera will freeze in whatever the current position is, as probably most people know... So I'm thinking it would be nice if the active camera is tracking any object at all, in any mode, f2-f8 etc, had a logic so if that unit ceases to be (for any reason at all, including a player quits, missile self destruct, etc) Then the camera automatically just flips to A static Ctrl+F11 view. There's so many times this world get people the shot, and it works perfectly in VR also. I can't think of any example where someone would prefer the camera jump over all the way back to spawn point like it currently does

The slamER is a really fun, cool, good, accurate and useful missile. What put me off using the original SLAM is all addressed by the ER version. The irony in the capture the base type server/missions is not really having to leave base anymore with this. Takeoff, notch the waypoint to the next airfield and fire when ready. Rather than getting bogged down with too many custom waypoints, I did a gentle 360' then fired the next.. Etc It's 4 very easy kills with minimum of flight. I wouldn't be surprised to see this weapon banned on many servers before long. It's just too easy and too good, and you'll get all the scorewhores using it when their glider bomb spam is unsuitable.

The wiggly line is called a trajectory in robotics, Cap. If you want to know more about the wiggly lines in aerial robotics, reply to this comment with your question. I'm currently writing my master's thesis which includes a quadrotor drone that has a robotic arm stuck to it, both of which follow wiggly lines.
@ledude1143 жыл бұрын
Nah, the word he's looking for is a "spline". A trajectory isn't parametrized by vertices that aren't part of it. A trajectory can be defined by splines, but these splines gives you exact position, velocity, acceleration, jerk and such for every time *t*.
@ChildOfVendetta3 жыл бұрын
@@ledude114 Splines are small parts of a trajectory, yes. Literature gets very weird about it sometimes, yes. You don't use the same spline for the entire flight path, ofc. You use one (or more) spline(s) around each vertex, splines, combined form a trajectory, trajectory being a set of points in space. In order for a set of points to be a trajectory, each point needs to have a specific time attached to it, as well as n derivatives of distance (distance, velocity, acceleration, jerk...). The "n" is the amount of things you wish to control. NB: English is not my first language and translating literature isn't that easy. NB2: Robotics defines something called "trajectory" differently than physics. If you remove timestamps and the derivatives, then you get something that is called a path in English (I think). > A trajectory isn't parametrized by vertices that aren't part of it. Yup, vertices are usually parts of a graph.
@ledude1143 жыл бұрын
@@ChildOfVendetta you literally repeated what I just said. The word Cap was searching for was spline (a curve defined by vertices that aren’t part of the parametrized curve itself). A trajectory doesn’t have that definition at all, as I first pointed out and you repeated.
@ChildOfVendetta3 жыл бұрын
@@ledude114 To be fair, I didn't read the whole comment, but the way he showed the whole flight path... That's a trajectory. Splines are usually the small parts of it. Some literature even refers to splines as the small bits of curve between 2 points of a trajectory. Depending on the way you plan your trajectory, the entire trajectory can in fact, mathematically be a spline. It's a really nitpicky debate. Spline is a more mathematical term for it. Trajectory is something that I, as someone who programs a robot want as the end result and that is something I can use to generate input(s) for my actuator(s). I don't know what your background is, maybe that is the reason why we're having a misunderstanding. I don't disagree with the things you said, I'm just refereing to the entire motion of the (aerial) robot. Edit: I view a spline as an intermediate result.
