Tor was designed to protect armored and mechanized divisions on the move and in combat. S-300P family systems belong to territorial defence units located deeper behind the front line and are designed to protect military and other critical installations. So S-300P family are usually protected by the territorial AD systems like Pantsir-S, while Tor may provide protection against guided missiles and gliding bombs to higher tier (army or front level) ground force AD systems like Buk or S-300V family systems. In any case, module developers decided for some reason not to allow S-300P to intercept JDAMs, althoug in real life S-300P have no problem engaging small RCS and/or ballistics targets.

Cap, the TALDs are too high up. The engagement envelope of the SA-15 is tiny, and since the TALDs flight profile is to stay as high as possible the SA-15s only get to launch against them at the last few seconds. Meanwhile, the JSOW has a lower flight profile, so the SA-15s have more time to engage than the high altitude TALDs even though the TALDs were launched first! If you launch the TALDs at about half of the altitude of your JSOW the TALDs will draw more fire because they'll be in the engagement envelope longer. You'll probably want to change the timing of your TALD launch (launching a little faster and ahead of the JSOW) since the JSOW seems to be faster. You know how Tacview has those hemispheres around SAM systems? Imagine there's one of those over the SA-15. You want the TALDs to cross that hemisphere before the JSOWs, and launching the TALDs at a lower altitude but faster velocity will get them there.

@@MrMattumbo Yes the TALD IRL can be programmed to mimic the JSOW, it can also be programmed with many different flight plans and a specific L/L target to fly over.

@@MrMattumbo I don't know if this was a feature of the TALD. The successor decoy to the TALD is the ADM-160 MALD, and it has this functionality.

Hey Cap, I've watched a couple of videos you've done about JSOWs and you always wait for the alignment to complete before programming them. You don't need to do it that way, alignment is needed only before launching the bombs, you can program them while the aliment is being done. Love your videos !!!

The other day we did a small pvp mission to attack red bunkers defended by TORs. We ended up with two '18's launching harms followed by a pair of 18's just over 90 degree spread launching eight JSOW each, all at about the same time. Soviet style saturation attacks work like a charm, even if it's expensive for just four bunkers.

When attacking a preplanned target, I'm not sure why you'd want to use both JSOW *and* TALD, rather than just saturating the target with JSOWs. A better use for the TALD would be to provoke the defenders to light their radars and launch, at which point the F-18s would pop up at close range and launch their AGM-88s to destroy the radars.

I defeated an sa10 site (template) using 4 harms only but it had no sa15 protection. I reckon you'd want to saturate the sa15s long enough for a harm to get through the min engagement zone of the sam. I think I'd send 2-3 waves of jsow and while they get engaged, send some high and fast harms.

I have a suggestion: Put the tomcats with TALDs lower, say 2000-3000 feet, make them overtake you with quite a big difference in speed, and once they do, you drop the JSOWs, and the tomcats continue pulling ahead a bit and then release. This would mean the JSOW travels a longer distance, losing more speed, while the TALDS are not only released at a higher speed, but also closer to the target, meaning they won't lose as much kinetic energy before finding purpose. Putting them lower would also mean they're more likely to act as a shield, and likely be easier for the SAM to lock. In your attempts, the JSOWs have pretty much all dropped below the TALDS once shit hits the fan. Chucked off my first 4 JSOWs yesterday. They all hit their targets at the same time. Absolute nerdgasm right there.

What happens if you fire TALD at high altitude and after that- a JSOW at low altitude, closer to target. My idea is to get the TOR's looking at the TALD's while the JSOW is gliding at low altitude towards them.

Fire JSOW first as the aircraft is faster than the JSOW the ask F14 to afterburn and fire their TALD late most probably the TALD will arrive first

I actually struggled with this yesterday evening. First we shot Mavericks but saw that Tor system would shoot it down, then we thought, what about JSOW, But same thing, simply got shot down 1 after the other. Tried high flying JDAMS But They are very innacurate at high altitute, So basically it came down to extremely low flying and armed with rocket Pods to shoot them, works like a charm. Unless you fly a bit to high and get shot down, Or fly to low and crash in the ground.

especially when SA-10s were downscaled to SA-11. And even then we are speaking about SA-10 SAM system modification from the early 80th. If implement something more modern in DCS it will simply kill the gameplay cause it can cover practically whole the map available :)

Could you not just overwhelm the launch sites? Each hornet can take 8 JSOWs so couldn't you just take two or three hornets and drop all of them to destroy the Sam? I doubt they can shoot down 8-16 in time. (even just one hornets load might be enough)
