Seed variety>plant pop>rain(blessing from above) or properly timed irrigation>chemical intervention. If you have a definciency in the first three, the fourth will have marginal success. The most underrated factor in stalks is plant pop. The problem with getting it right is plant pop is obviously established at seeding, but it's success is influenced by factors through out the growing season.

@@AgPhD Thanks for your input! Appreciate the tv show here in Southern Manitoba. I still manage to get the show on Fox in Grand Forks via "farmer tv" antenna on the tower. Years later I now also listen to the podcast. Cheers.
