AGREEABLE GRAY VS EDGECOMB GRAY | Which One Is Best? (The Paint People)

These are two pretty colors. I just finished painting my bedroom and master bathroom with Edgecombe gray. The bathroom faces east with a large window and the bedroom faces west with three large windows and the light shading throughout the day is so pretty. From light gray, green gray, gray beige, and green as the sun sets. I did not go with a classic white crown molding but matched a custom color that the builder used several years ago when the house was built. It looks fantastic. And it works great with my brand new hickory hardwood floors.

My husband and I were searching for a good neutral color about 10 years ago (maybe less). We found Agreeable Grey by Sherwin Williams, it was an HGTV color back then. Its such a perfect greige . We have now painted 2 homes in that color. I have no plans of changing that color anytime soon. My eyes love looking at Agreeable Gray and it's such a great neutral gray.

My two favorites are SW Agreeable Gray (hallway) and BM Balboa Mist (shiplap bathroom)!

Agree with Kandice, below. We had purchased Edgecomb, but is just looked like beige when the painting commenced. I would not look at Edgecomb and call it gray at all. Very pleased with AG, as it is not too blue, and quite neutral.

Im so lost I thought I wanted grey owl and I put up samples on wall but looks blue I also sampled revere peeeter which looked more grey and not any closer to taupe , Coventry was a darker grey but still had blue undertone and stonington loolled like light blue ! Ugh

The “if you like” list you made for edgecomb gray described everything I want. I’m planning to paint my basement though, barely any natural light and very low ceilings with LED high hats. I’ve been looking at paint online for hours and I’m so OVERWHELMED.

If anyone is wondering I went with soft chamois which was my first choice but I started second guessing and panicking lmao. It looks like a nice off white and once we put a floor and furniture I think it’ll look even better.

Me too! I finally realized all those trips to the paint store to get just ONE MORE SAMPLE was costing me so much in gas that I bought a Sherwin Williams color deck online. Now I can narrow it down before I go to Sampleize to get the big ones. And if I see a video about a color that just looks PERFECT, I can look it up in my deck instead of running to the store again! 😁 Good luck to you!

We don't, but Sherwin Williams makes some of the best paints out there! You just need to use more of their premium products for a premium finish!

Initially, I went with agreeable gray and my husband and I painted all the dining and living area and then the next day I realized it looked like a really light baby blue so I went back to the store and bought l edge-comb gray and repainted everything! And I love it so much better. Agreeable gray didn’t look anything like the pictures on google. it literally looked blue to me but I’m sure my lighting has something to do with that, considering I only use daylight light bulbs. Thinking of switching to soft white to compliment the edgecomb even better

I’m having the same problem! Agreeable looks slightly blue even a hint of lavender at times in my house. In my sister-in-law’s house it doesn’t look blue at all. Do you find the edgecomb to read beige at all? That’s my only concern is going too beige as I have cool gray couches.

Same issue going on right now in our home. Had to change paint color for potential buyers who didn't like our previous color, SW Monorail Silver. The painters have 80% of the home done in Agreeable Gray, which was recommended by our agent and his wife, an interior designer, and yes, it has a blueish tint. In fact, it looks like a lighter version of Monorail Silver. I'm so pissed right now because this is the second time we've painted in a coupe of months just to sell our home. I should have gone with my gut and picked something more beige but listened to my agent and his wife. He better sell this damn house now!!

Thinking of using Edgecomb Grey for house exterior, as main color, house does face south so color lightens up a lot but still looks great.

Good question. Often times, people will opt for a gallery look with a soft white like Oxford White, or you can go for somethingike Classic Gray if you want some understated color.

@@thepaintpeople great, thanks. My issue is finding a way to have the eye go to the artwork rather than the wall. I have huge windows that provide a lot of light and a great view. It’s hard to “turn people around” and get them back in the room. My living room is a soft almost celadon, lots of sky and water outside, but it’s pretty noticeable. I want it to go away.
