I love how in your recent videos you are starting to break down those “little details” that can trip up French learners. Especially for me, I have mastered the majority of French grammar and conjugation. You always do a beautiful job explaining things!! But….. I still don’t understand why a direct object after the verb aborts the BIG 0:16 rule of agreement in number/gender between the subject and the past participle. (I have no problem with the past participle reflecting number/gender if it is referred to before the verb). I know….i know…. You don’t make the rules and no doubt you are 100% correct. Thanks

Elles se sont lavées. Agreement needed Elles se sont lavé les mains. Here there is a direct object after the verb, so no agreement Elles se les sont lavées. Agreement needed as direct object before the noun. With an indirect object no agreement Elle s’est fait mal. She hurt herself. Elle s’est fait mal au genou. She hurt her knee.
