"Of course, once the proper translators got their hands on the files and interpreted everything we said to each other, the confusion became clear." Ni'urn reached out and then grabbed a small fruit similar to a cherry-a product of his species' homeworld-off of the plate and then munched on it. "It was... very humbling." Warren groaned as he rubbed his face with both hands. "So you weren't just some nerd." "And you weren't some warrior." Warren snorted, and then dropped his hands to cast a sour look towards the xeno. "So how much, exactly, did everyone laugh?" Ni'urn gave his people's version of a sigh. "I will let you know when they stop." The human groaned again and then slumped down in his chair. Ni'urn saw this and then lightly tapped the table near the alien; a gesture of comraderie. "Take heart, doctor. After all, we did save a ship of people from being abducted and stopped a pirate menace. Surely that is worth a bit of embarrassment?" Warren thought about that for a moment, and afterward his expression lightened up. "Yeah... Yeah, that is."

How to use a computer: 1. Look for something which looks like it might do what you want. 2. Select/press/use it. 3. Repeat until task is accomplished. 4. If you get stuck, try turning it off and on again and go back to step 1.

Oh Agro my friend i so needed that! A comedy of misunderstandings, narrated so seriously, it brought a smile to my lips. This has been a day! I have killed gods and monsters, i have faced eternity, all without flinching. Yet , dealing with state bureaucracy, any state,any bureaucracy, never fails to ruin my day.

Oh I see, poor universal translation protocols between different program matrix's. Very common, that's why they need to follow the human standards.
@nicholashernandez4611 Жыл бұрын
Our species has gone through a hundred languages and dozens of those languages are still used, with sometimes dozens of exclusive dialects per language. That’s not counting the languages that are completely bastardizations of other languages to the point they’re not even considered languages in the first place. A human standard doesn’t exist, though I have a feeling we will have about four languages as our main ones by the time we are a stellar species. English, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Arabic, and possibly a Russian common dialect. At least if we move into space within the next few decades. Four main languages with several regional variations, and that’s before we even account for the first xeno language. Language is fun, until it’s not.

This reminds me of an old Japanese movie, called the "Hidden Fortress!" The plot being, two idiot Japanese peasants, fumbling through the story, very confused, very much prone to being clumsy. Altering the fight as they go. Accidental heroes. Incidentally, these two characters are who George Lucas based R2D2 and C3P0 on.

I love the idea of a crappy cheap translator making mistakes that mislead interactions between speicies.... I am not a wrighter, but would be awesome to see played out more. Would be another level if the person worked out some general speech rules so similar errors would repeat.... but that is also way beyond my understanding.
