Based on the data from earlier expeditions, humans already did that and presumably failed to get useful data (most likely destroyed by the xenos themselves), it possibly cost lives as well. Suspect they decided to stop risking losses and just use simple triangulation instead. Personally, I'd have at least arranged to have them followed through multiple systems (as long as they were not inhabited) as that would get a more useful reverse trajectory.

Partly because blowing the thing up is emotionally satisfying, partly because the xenos had probably destroyed all navigation data on previous boarding actions so its not worth the risk.

Even more so since 'expeditions' at least heavily implies not just one, but at least a couple of ships being vaporized every single time. Are there no commanding officers? I mean, at all? Also, considering human nature, realising that an alien species is breeding human beings for food would cause humankind to pull out all the stops and do whatever is necessary to find their homeplanet, ASAP. Which also means specifically _not_ giving this task to the most unintelligent, lazy, ignorant, egotistical pig of a grunt one can imagine.

One should still think that with 72 alien expeditions being destroyed, the humans should have been capable to gather at least _some_ useful information concerning the origin of those aliens. Even more so since they just seem to swarm the place.

@Alex novak The standard procedure for our drills was using a shredder or a burn barrel, or if the ship was going down really fast, just stuff everything into some weighted canvas bags and chuck them over the side on your way to the life rafts. Not a perfect system, but it was better than doing nothing at all.

Even more so when we talk about a caste system, which seems to be in place here, and with only very few selected individuals having access to said systems. Considering that the humans wiped out 73 expeditions, which at least implies more than one ship per expedition, then human forces look more than just a bit inapt here.
