I’ve built three parts casters using warmoth necks. I find it wild that stainless steel frets are only a $25 up charge (so I got it every time), yet major brands act like it’s a wayyyyy more premium feature
@ctastrophe_0 Жыл бұрын
i noticed that same thing with roasted maple necks. harley benton and squier sell roasted (or even roasted flamed) maple necks on models that are under $600, and on some configurators it’s almost that much just to *have* one

This is something that goes for basically everything and manufacturing, but tiny increments in a single product stack up when you're building thousands of them. Its why anything aftermarket is almost automatically better than stock parts
@TobyKBTY Жыл бұрын
After seeing the prices on the new Jacksons and EVHs, I have come to the conclusion that I'll just make Warmoth builds similar to my favorite ones lmao. I particularly like the new solid paint Frankenstrats from EVH but at that price for a MIM guitar without an OFR/Schaller FR? Yeah, time to make a Warmoth version.
@catoi6324 Жыл бұрын
@figtheoryvlog think about it more like $8 on a thousand guitars vs $8 on one guitar. With cars parts, for example, they have entire teams of people dedicated to shaving cents off of stuff like mounting plates and whatnot because the deduction in costs adds up when you're making thousands of them
@diazzsama Жыл бұрын
they act like overseas labor costs an arm and a leg. Shit it's probably just an extra hour to put stainless steel frets which costs 1.5 bucks extra for labor and 6 bucks extra for materials and tools compared to put regular nickel frets.

I'm with you on the Polar Burst - the black needs to go all the way around. Damn, Jackson's fuckin putting out! Love it! Side ramble on why basses have so many knobs- it's bc alotta basses these days have active 2- or 3-band EQs, and some of the 3-bands have an extra knob to control where the mid band peaks. That's as much as 4 total before counting the volume, and the fact that basses tend to have a blend knob rather than a pickup selector. Think of it like replacing your selector with a slider, with one end being neck and the other being bridge. So, as many as 6 knobs total on the more spec'd out models

Jackson makes the JS1 bass and it has a PJ setup. Also the reason for so many knobs on a bass is tone. Modern basses have up to 4 knobs for tone, concentric or standard. Highs, Lows, Mids, and Mid Freq. Generally speaking if there are three knobs it is for High, mid, and low. Also can have an active/passive switch or push/pull. I think the crazy new Jackson basses are trying to look like Rickenbackers. The blue, red, and black shiny metallic Jacksons reminded me of the Harley Benton's that run around $150.
@edwinstovall3334 Жыл бұрын
Hunter, I relate to your use of MIDI bass for your demos, but you might considered something I did about 2 years ago. Like you, I'm primarily a guitarist, but I've learned that it's possible for a guitarist to pick up bass playing more easily with a short-scale bass. It's ironic that you're covering one of the very companies that sell the exact kind of bass I'm talking about. It's part of Jackson's Minion Series. Ibanez has something like it in their miKro series, and I have one of them, but I wish I'd known about the Jacksons. They suit my visual style better. You, of course, should check them both out and then go with the solution that suits you best. Stick with the MIDI bass if that's your best go, but consider checking out a short-scale bass. Might turn out pretty good.

1. Internet will not validate. 2. Only a handful (up to this point) had stainless steel and they are USA signatures i.e. JL Kelly. The MJ series do not have SS (unless you know something I don’t that’s on the horizon 👀). 3. I’m so stoked to see this line FINALLY launch. I’ve known for a few months and it launched a little earlier than I initially thought it would, but FINALLY they’re catching up. BUT, and it’s a big BUT - before I get crucified I’m a Jackson fanboi. Hunter can vouch if he recalls our DM convos on the gram. Jackson needs to do some price adjusting. I’m a pointy boi fan but I love this new drop. However, specifically the SL3’s, I’m a bit lost in relation to the American Series. I loved the release but it did receive criticism. For a couple hundred bucks you can upgrade the Pro Plus and have it be nearly the same exact guitar but “functionally better” than the American Series and still save so much money. At that point you’re just picking the American Series for aesthetics (mother of pearl inlays) or you prefer the color selections, or you want a USA made Jackson. Saying China vs USA isn’t necessarily a solid foundation for argument anymore - I’ve seen issues with the Brandon Ellis Kelly and played one myself (fit and finish defect but functionally fine) but have also seen issues with some American Series (functionality defect but fit and finish was good excluding the issue).

I've always been more into solid, dull colors on guitars like blacks, whites and grays and never a fan of bright colors, sparkles or bursts. I'm into wood grain lately behind transparent shades though and it's definitely disappointing that Jackson has very limited color options on a lot of their high-end production guitars. As far as how a Jackson plays though, they've been the most solid, all around guitars I've ever touched since back in the '90s when I started playing as a teenager. You can spend $250 on a Chinese made Jackson just because you want a guitar you can keep in drop Q tuning to find the brown noise so you don't have to drop another guitar up and down all the time and you're not going to have a bad time.

I want to preface that I mean absolutely no ill will or offence, but regarding Chinese made guitars... even if they were to reach or even exceed Indonesian made levels of quality, while I have bought Chinese made guitars a long time ago, I wouldn't ever do so again, just because of how closely tied Chinese companies are to the CCP nowadays and how both the Uyghur genoc*de, threats to Taiwan and general horrible sh*t the CCP has been up to makes me feel uncomfortable buying anything from there. And I know that I am not alone in this. Which sucks, because genuinely the people deserve the best, but given the choice between buying something from China or literally anywhere else, my conscience forces me to choose the latter. I've tried some Epiphones that are absolutely awesome, so it's kind of painful, but a cool guitar isn't worth likely supporting a genoc*dal regime. I'm actually curious, is this something Harley Benton are aware of or try to work around somehow?

When it comes to guitar building, it's just stupid to pretend stuff built in China is automatically inferior. There's soo many great brands that have had, or are about to have, products coming from China. The world's an ever changing place, and production of quality guitars isn't as "hands on" as it was 50 years ago. I don't think most people care that much about exactly how every little process is done? As long as the end product is up to a certain standard, the set up and adjustments can be fine tuned by the consumer. That's why we're seeing the prices catch up to the stuff made elsewhere.
