I found his book Runaway Realization at a free library in Oakland. I am so excited to read it. Researching about the author brought me here. Everything is truly all connected. From what I learned about him this is the exact book at the exact time I needed. Thank you AH Almaas

His words really resonated with me. That is my experience as well. Life changes and interests change. That is part of the journey of discovery where there is no destination. I love that he is not fixated on "not suffering" but the delight of the mystery. How refreshing. I am a mother of 2 young kids so not able to venture off to these schools so these videos are a god-send. It is a way I can eves drop on the conversation yet still be here for my family. Love it! Thanks Ian and Hameed!

Thank you for posting this delightful and inspiring interview. I was deeply impressed by Almaas' experiences with Presence, something I believe underlies all other aspects of our spiritual experience and growth because it brings us back to the Point of Consciousness from which, and through which we experience reality - this and all other. I was also very touched by Alain's genuineness. It seemed to me that he was speaking without any veils, from his very heart, and I could see for myself the sweetness that Almaas spoke about. It was very touching.

first time I hear someone saying what I felt: maybe awakening is not a punctual 'event'. Many others are talking about this permanent refinement of the sights and insights. I feel that once we awake to the truth, we'll continue to awake for ever. No need to attach to an "experience of enlightenment". Better ones are always coming, now, now and now again. We are not the experiencer, but enlightenment itself. There'll be no isolated experience of awakening, but there IS an ever happening expansion. Maybe even those who are seemingly sleeping are always slightly awakening toward the truth.
@PeterKoperdan5 жыл бұрын
Awakening/Enlightenment happens progressively over time. There are certain milestone changes (e.g. experience of nonduality or no-self) that start happening and then stabilize over time. In that sense the changes could be thought of as 'permanent'. However, it is very difficult to discuss changes beyond the initial milestones, the territory is too 'outlandish'. Furthermore, you can define Awakening/Enlightenment as you wish and spiritual traditions differ in their definitions. Perhaps Awakened phenomenology experts could have a meaningful discussion about it, but ordinary people probably shouldn't bother. I like this vague 'definition': Awakening is the first important milestone. You Awaken after experiencing a certain crucial aspect of The Truth. It seems that nonduality/no-self is such an aspect of The Truth. I think that you can glimpse this Truth, perhaps initially, but ultimately you want to embody this Truth and it should become your baseline experience. After that you can continue the long march towards 'full' Enlightenment, probably over multiple lifetimes (or less if lucky). What is 'full' Enlightenment? Who cares. You'll get there eventually. Having Awakened will make the process much faster.

@@Refulgent_Rascal I do. But after reading most of his books, I've moved on to other teachers since then. Got to keep moving forward! Sometimes the realizations and enlightenments only last for a week before you realize something new, and are enlightened even brighter! Don't be afraid to let go of the old beliefs. That's the only way you raise to the higher levels!

The quote you attribute to the Sufi's about 'being in the world but not of it' comes from the New Testament; 1 John 2:15-17. Your reference to essence, our true nature coming from truth/love; is also found in the NT - 1 Corinthians. When I read those passages and others and used the word truth in place of God I felt heartened. It makes me feel I want to focus more on those teachings and embody them. I am grateful that I have listed to your talk. Thank you.

iF KNOWLEDGE DOESNT TRANSLATE INTO ACTION WHAT GOOD IS IT? HOW DO I TAKE THIS TO ACTION?
@QED_6 жыл бұрын
@hal warner: Specific qualities of "knowledge" are good in specific ways. But you're asking a general question. So in general, the knowledge makes your action more precise, attuned, and effective because you understand better how things happen. Knowledge eliminates ignorance . . . which is an obstacle to effective action.

when Ian asks Almaas wheres the line of full realization, he's right to say there isn't. Its arbitrary in that way and ever changing, for the state of evolution of human kind at every point, thats why different religions that speak about the truth give different line to it, they carry a message to mankind at
