funny fact: Shangri-la frontier took several breaks. One around time Elden Ring released, one when Tears of Kingdom and one when Armored Core got out. Author also supposedly had Kodansha buy them for him as "research material"...

I’m really enjoying this series so far. Since the first episode I realized this anime can become like SAO but better. The VRMMO aspect also drew me into the series. I can’t to see how this anime turns out in the end.

SLF is essentially a more gamified SAO while having SAO-like elements. If you ever want a fully gamer story, try The Kings Avatar (I would suggest the manga/manhua instead of their animation).

the knight turning out to be the girl crushing on our MC was a nice twist. i didn't see that coming at all. the production and care taken for the game mechanics and animation is top notch. this will be a keeper for me.

I can’t help but think that every Souls player that watches this episode is probably thinking “yeah I’ve been there, trying to find a save point before my health drops to zero, because of a poison status” or “random high level monsters encounters are such a thrill to beat under level”

The whole "sprint to set a respawn point" thing reminds me of so many old games I used to play, especially with old minecraft custom maps. Just sprinting to find a bed to set my respawn to skip a big section or get a good position. This show has been an absolute surprise for me this season. Ep 1 already blew my expectations, especially that damn OP. And then Ep 2 stepped it up a notch. This show is just comfy for gamers.

🤞 on the production keeping up for the full 2 cours. And I do like how close each call is. He nearly died from poison. And while it was an expected twist that the suit of armour was the girl crushing on him, it was a welcome one. Also the end shows how the first unique monster only really showed recently and was triggered by him. This is also ironically a web novel with only a manga adaptation I may have mentioned before so hope the author gets a licensed LN if they want that. Also props to the guy trying to impress his crush for actually knowing some stuff. Also it would make sense the game would be run by all those supercomputers

Shangri-La Frontier definitely make me feel so excited in the same way that when I discovered SAO for the 1st Time! The game mechanics are well detailed and polished 😌 I guess than in next episode, Sunraku will either be able to run away or the girl in Armor will save him 🤔 This show is really the holy relic for Video Game Type show 🙏🏻

(note: I've read what's out in english of the manga) I am so incredibly excited for the Lycon fight next week! like if they do it justice (and I assume they will based on the past two episodes) it is gonna be so hype. this is almost a spoiler, but they did say something along these lines in the episode today so I'll say it anyways: this fight is the first major turning point in the story, like this fight gets more impactful the further into the story you go. I'm really excited to finish watching the season and then go back and rewatch the coming fight.

Starting to wonder if the game world is more like Infinite Dendrogram where the players inhabit avatars in a world with the NPCs being people that live that world. ID was more obvious about it from the first episode, so probably not.

The ending in cliffhangers seems to be a trope they are going to overuse to annoyance so far 2 episodes of 2 did use it. But at least they do a good job with the after credits as well and I wonder when his stalker girl will finally catch up to him ingame.

I've read the SAO light novels and watched the anime even beat the shit tie in games I love SAO but it went from good to bad to good with the phantom bullet arc to amazing with mother's rossario down to really damn good with alicization the unital ring is pretty good so far I understand the grips but I really enjoy it just a simple fun power fantasy

SAO to me was another Dot Hack. Sure there were more people being kept in the game, but I liked Dot hack. SAO was okay until they Won but didnt. For some reason the Master switch did not work and release only sum.... I watched the whole thing, season by season. But only until ep 14 or 15. They won, the game world ended, that should have been it...

Correction: Losing items is not what he was concerned about. He was concerned about his respawn point. Since he had travelled quite a distance, respawning at his first spawn point would be bad, so he needed to update his respawn point at the inn.

I still feel like SAO could have been good had the auther taken his time with the story. I still don't understand why he felt he needed to rush to the end of the two years of their time stuck in the vr game.

I thought the computer terminal at the end was saying not only that 0 unique monsters had been defeated, but also, that 0 unique monsters had spawned. If I interpreted that correctly, the game server isn't completely in charge. 🤔 I've decided I like the opening theme music. It reminds me of _Database_ from _Log Horizon,_ which was another show where the game servers didn't seem to be fully in charge. Connection?

I must say, 100 percent this is giving me SAO vibes. If you remove the whole death game plotline from it I think this is what SAO would've been. Funny thing with my experience with SAO, I liked the first arc. I wouldn't say it was the best thing ever but I watched it early into my anime experience. The arc after that (Alfheim) was absolutely dog shit so I can understand why people have such miced opinions on SAO. If thst arc didn't exist and the first season ended with them getting out of the gsme, it would have had a better reception overall. The rest of the seasons after that were good to great. I am of the opinion it's overhated. But anyway, this series is so good and it will be huge if you give it time. It's a shame that it's probably not the most popular thing this season because of the so many anime that are airing but I bet over the course of the 24 it will get more traction. The game mechanics, the characters, the monsters and the art and animation compliment it so well. C2C are a top tier studio right now because whatever they pick up, I can almost guarantee that it will look good without even knowing the story. I love this series and our main character Sunraku. Also really appreciate some of the game references it throws out. Like meme builds and so on. This is the perfect start to a gaming anime that I didn't know I wanted but now I need really badly to see what is gonna happen next. Great review Brandon can't wait to see the next episode. Edit: The OP is a banger and the ED is pretty good too. Like it a lot

I honestly don't think a stuck in a video game or transported into a world that functions like a video can work for a plot of an entire show. The whole thing sounds to much like a wish fulfillment fantasy. As a side note, I'll never understand how anyone watched the first season of SAO, the show frustrated me with its inability to make me care about the characters and its lack of urgency.

He isn't stuck in the game and he hasn't been transported to a world that functions like a game. He is literally just playing an awesome game he can log out of any time he wants. The manga/novel even has him play other games from time to time when he hits a wall and you occasionally get real world stuff as well.
