I have seen an MC that does something that's not quite the same, but similar. In his case, it was someone who tried to harm his mother. So he took the perpetrator, stabbed her, made her beg for her life, killed her, ressurrected her as a half blood (she was super proud of being a pure blood) and cursed her to be unable to kill herself so she's forced to live as a half blood. And this is an MC that is actually forgiving (relatively speaking) even towards people who have tried to kill him, but he does not tolerate violence towards his mom (and if you've seen his mom, you would 100% agree with that sentiment because she is Best Girl).

Iron was not pissed or resisting, it just was one of his skills as a tank type hunter, is like "Lion's Roar", to pull the aggro of the enemies, note that baruka (barca) every time Iron shouted, his eyes went red and only attacked Iron, that's because he was under Iron Skill effect. And yes, every shadow has personalities, every one of them, but memories, only those of the rank of igris or superior.

By far, my favorite moment of this episode isn't even the 1v3 of Baruka vs Sung Jinwoo, Igris, and Iron. Number one is the after-battle moment with Iron and the shadow soldiers! I was throwing my fists up cheering with them! I love seeing those comedic interactions between the soldiers, and hopefully the anime keeps adapting that stuff because a much later shadow soldier is going to take both the badassery and comedy levels up to 11!

Certainly an ironic fate for that guy. Some interesting lore elements in this episode - some monsters are explicitly sentient and somewhat free-willed, but there's a voice in their heads compelling them to attack humans, which apparently doesn't include Jin Woo. And when he tries for more details there's a full-on glitch in the matrix that resets the boss to earlier in the conversation.

Also loved the extra little touch details like when Iron with drew his hammer from Barca's body and it responded as the body should when a heavy object was removed from it! Right before they wiped out his whole crew in the manwha, he was talking about "If only we had more food" and crap, but after Kim's group killed the Ice Bears, they were TRYING to scavenge meat from the ice bears but Kim stopped them. It gets even better when you've read the manhwa and realize that Jinwoo had planned for this to happen. In the manhwa, he kicks the sword, that Hunter Kim lost when he got knocked out by Jinwoo, right towards the unconscious Kim, so that it would be within reach when he came to. So he banked on Kim to pick that sword up and attack him. And then Jinwoo literally put up a smokescreen to conceal what was happening from Song-Yi, Heejin, and the other surviving hunters. And when naming him, he got so massively creative 😂 Just translating the name Chul (which means iron) to English, so he didn't even put any kind of effort into naming his new shadow. Gotta love it.

Another thing done better in Solo Leveling than I've ever seen before is how they demonstrated the use of the "taunt" ability that tank classes usually have in MMOs. They didn't describe it, they just showed it by having Baruka decide Iron had to die first every time Iron taunted with his roar. You even see it with Baruka's eyes glowing red while under the influence of the taunt. Masterful visual storytelling.

The Light novel explains why JinWoo knocked him out and didnt just kill Iron at first... he wanted him to wake up and have enough hate to trigger an emergency quest so he could get more experience points and skill points. He pushed him over the edge just to farm him. If you havent read the source material I highly recommend you give it a try.

I wish they had taken the few seconds to let him name Tank in the episode. OTOH, Tank gets a couple of quick moments in the next bit, then pretty much fades away because other super shadows join in. I can see why they left it out. I love the way they interpreted it from the novel and manga, including all of the foreshadowing that is happening of things that don't appear for 100 chapters or more in the manga. It is setting up to tell the story without having the leisure to spend a bunch of time stopping and writing stuff up.

Solo Leveling only gets better. Its also great to see the anime staying true to the Manhwa but also adding their own touch. (they've rearranged scenes from later chapters to see early for better context add world building)
