Hear from a panel of experts who will provide an update on bluetongue and the current BTV-3 strain that has been confirmed in cases in cows and sheep in Kent and Norfolk.
The session includes presentations from Peter Mertens, Professor of Virology, University of Nottingham, and Christopher Sanders, Research Fellow in Veterinary Entomology from the Pirbright Institute about the midge lifecycle and how their behaviour allows them to transmit BTV to ruminants, and the impact of temperature on BTV transmission and other factors.
This is followed by a presentation on the Schmallenberg virus by Rudolf Reichel from APHA.
