No one who does not live with compulsive hoarding disorder can know how overwhelming it is - 24/7- no days off. Ms Heart presents a cheerful, almost casual demeanor in her inspiring videos, but I know this has been an almost unimaginable struggle to do this. For the rest of us (people who do not live with complusive hoarding disorder) it might seen like "what's the big deal? just get rid of the stuff!" but for compulsive hoarders, they would often sooner be homeless, divorced, or even dead, than get rid of their stuff.

That is very true my friend, that’s why we can’t just “throw it all away at one time!” Our nervous system couldn’t handle that, it be debilitating and could cause us to regress. Thank you for helping me humanize hoarding disorder 🩷🙏🏼🩷

Thank you. I'm a hoarder. I don't feel I was one as a child but now it has taken my liveliness away. I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Nobody knows about it except my daughter because nobody ever gets invited in our home...

@@ChestyStClair One drawer, one surface, one corner, one box! Get rid of the trash and move anything you want to keep to a place where you know you will find it. You can do it xxx I'm going to do the same :)

ChestySt.Clair, you can do it! There’s another KZbin channel where a woman is cleaning out her hoarded home, one area at a time. She now has her living room completely decluttered, and another KZbinr helped her with her kitchen. Think about which area annoys you the most, and work there. Wear a mask if the dust is too much. Chances are, getting that one area clean will motivate you to clean the next most annoying thing. Baby steps!

I don't have compulsive hoarding disorder, but I do have ADHD and it was so hard getting started on decluttering, but once I did it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. As a single mom, between work, homeschooling, and our fixer-upper home there was no way I could keep up with the house until I decluttered and simplified everything. It took a lot longer than I would have liked, but now my house is so easy to take care of and my kids also tell me they enjoy their minimal, easy-to-clean rooms. Thanks for your encouragement!

I haven't visited this channel in a while. It was very helpful for motivation at a particular stage of my life and will always remember this as something that helped. I'm not a minimalist at all yet 😅 There are definitely cycles to the decluttering. I really appreciate seeing photos over time seeing the hoard get cleared and organised, grow back a bit, and then get tackled again - year after year - because you can see the space open up steadily over time.

I am so proud of you❤ and SO THANKFUL for the impact you’ve made on others. I’ve always been drawn to decluttering but the minimalism blogs and channels were always so strict and lacking in compassion. Watching your journey, your positivity has inspired me to let go of the past and stop hoarding in order to feel safe in my life. Your approach is so self compassionate and nurturing , something we hoarders definitely need in our tool kit. Thank you🙏 here’s to a happy 2024 where we all continue to thrive and stop the hoarding!!

Ms Heart - you might get useful organizing ideas from Gayle Goddard's videos on organizing crafting supplies - as well as being a professional organizer for over 10 years, she is a dedicated and passionate crafter (beading) and has organized many other crafters. I know it might be a couple months until you are setting up your craft "room" in the basement, but maybe getting some ideas now might give it time to mentally sort the ideas.

Actually it was your parents fault. You must teach your children skills. The Spectrum issues just make it amplified. Kids need the confidence and motivation to start practising what they have seen or learnt or they just don’t do it. A sort of learned incompetence. If your parents are doing all the work you don’t feel like you have to or are allowed to, to do the same.

So if someone has OCD they can't also have it take the form of being a minimalist like Ms Heart's mother? Cos that was what I got from what she said, not that minimalism and being OCD are the same thing.
@extrememinimalism10 ай бұрын
My point is I am a minimalist AND I have OCD. Occasionally intrusive thoughts impact my minimalism and occasionally minimalism living has been healing in my OCD. But even so, they are two separate things and should never be describe as the same thing. If your minimalism is leaching into OCD, then it has become OCD, and is no longer minimalism as technically OCD is about obsessions that get in the way of living and minimalism is all about and encouraging living. Source: Someone who is OCD diagnosed and who's OCD did overtake minimalism at one point. In my case OCD impacted minimalism, because I was only feeling safe when I was spending hours counting everything in my rooms and went 'extreme minimalist' to cope. And when I couldn't I was very, very, very stressed about it, aka not living my best life. @@MRPandoraHartDR
