It feels like you took such a big step forward in your journey of letting things go, after you lost your job. It seems like it not only left you with more time to do the decluttering, but also the mental room.. I am sooooo proud of the healing you are doing. You have come so far.

Omg that makes so much sense about hoarding....the stuff validates us when people don't or won't..... especially with Christmas stuff and decorations in general for any occasion.

You hit the nail on the head: the stuff is where I receive love. I have loved on myself with stuff since I was probably 7 yrs old. It soothes me, medicates me, calms me to buy stuff for myself and feel safe and loved when I looked at all my possessions. I’m 62 and still doing it. A loveless marriage has set me back decades in my hoarding. I self soothe and love on myself by over buying. Dear God how do I get out of this behaviour?

Therapy will help. There are many counsellors that specialise in this area and they will walk with you as you process and progress. It’s very difficult to do this alone as they’re the ones with that specific skill set.

Thanks for the real-time realizations, I loved to see you understand step by step the behavior you acquired, how and why. It also gives a lot of hope I think! You are real, you have real "issues" and yet you evolve, it happens for real to real people. This episode inspired me a lot. Thank you

That is such an amazing declutter for you. I realised that I hoarded as my stuff never left me like my dad did all those years ago. I still have some way to go, but finding my reason has really helped. I can see that today when watching you as you realised the why. Thanks for sharing your journey. X

All those unopened Christmas crafts would be a great donation to a Children's Hospital, an orphanage, or even a nursing home (some can no longer do intricate crafts).

Are there still orphanages in the USA? Just wondering with all the adoption processes nowadays.
@rebeccamadigan673525 минут бұрын
@blaaaaaaarrrrr I'm not sure about orphanages, but my state at least has group homes for kids because there aren't enough foster homes available. Teens in particular are hard to place in foster homes.

I’ve just paused at 6:40. I’m in tears - I’m so sorry you were abused and bullied. I’m going through something at the moment and mentally I’m not at my strongest. I started watching your channel because like you things brought me comfort when often people let me down. It’s hard and complex to explain but I am getting better, I’ve sold lots, donated lots and given away. I don’t feel attached to anything anymore and feel unanchored. Christmas is the last section I need to work through and I’m finding it tough, because I’m going through so much and I can’t face it. I bet you understand this more than others. Thank you for your channel and community. Claire ❤

We downsized at the beginning of the year when we moved. And only have 5 bins(one is just stuffies) of Xmas stuff, I was able to put everything on 1 shelving unit. So I can just go and pick what I want. It’s so much better now! Yes I’ll get things here and there but always get rid of something else when another comes in. I just have to quit making bigger items lol Great job getting rid of more things!

We have a friend at our church who is an extreme hoarder. Her single wide mobile home is packed with things and so is her car so much so that she can only carry one passenger with her anywhere she goes. You have helped me understand her a little bit more through your hoarding experience. I wish I could help her but I know she would have to come to terms with everything on her own. She’s an older lady and has no family so someone someday will have to go through all of her stuff and either tossey tossey or donate everything it will be a huge job for someone someday I pray that she comes to terms with everything before that so that she’s able to start going through it and I hope that someday she gets the help that she needs so that she can get herself to the point that you are. I appreciate the honesty that you have with your viewers and I wish you a very happy safe and peaceful Christmas

She sounds lonely. You can probably help her best by including her in various get-togethers or having coffee/lunch, etc. Maybe she'll feel less need to seek comfort through items.

I get all the feels when going through things that would no longer interest my daughter. That is probably the only category I have had to take baby steps with because it brings back so many memories of us spending time together. Books in particular take me right back to those days of cuddling and reading. I just try and remind myself of all the fun things we do now together that she is older and it makes it a little easier.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I want to say thank you for giving me tools to navigate some complex feelings. I’m currently struggling, again, with an early pregnancy loss and I’ve had the biggest urges to head to the mall and spend my blues away. I keep hearing your voice in my head and it’s allowed me to sit with these intense feelings of grief and know that I’ll be ok. I’ve turned my focus on things I have and what I’m grateful for and I just wanted to share that with you. ❤

so many good "aha" moments in this one! It's really important to understand that love language is about how YOU ask OTHERS to show you love. so if you feel loved when you get a gift, you can ask your family and partner to show love that way. But it's NOT about showing love to others with your own language, because they might not speak that language and thus not feel loved. So don't give gifts because you like to receive them, because others might only want quality time and actually feel burdened by the gifts. I think you can see this with your kids, how they're starting to feel overwhelmed in their rooms with too many items. It comes from a good place, you don't want others to ever feel the lack of love and acceptance you felt, but as you said, the love doesn't come from the stuff.

Dried foods and sugary foods won’t grow mold easily, as mold requires moisture and sugar works as a preservative 😊 There may be questionable ingredients in the foods, but not necessarily because they don’t grow mold 💕
@goldfishsnake2 сағат бұрын
yep! marshmallows are pretty much just sugar and gelatin so they wouldn't mold. granulated sugar really doesn't spoil. and fruit loops are basically dehydrated, so I bet they're super stale but again won't mold because no moisture.

A thing/ object is not how people show love. Our love is about the kind thought and care for the person the gift is just a vessel the love is there regardless. We have become hard wired to think things bring love but it’s the people in our lives who bring us love

I see how much it saddens you to get rid of the crafts that are too young for your boys. But I admire that you are going to spread the joy by giving them to other children. Perhaps if you and your sons pick a NEW age appropriate craft or activity then that will be a great alternative? If they don't like crafts maybe something like a mystery game box would be something you could all enjoy as a family. My "boys" are now 34 & 36 and when they visit for the holidays we love to play games. ❤💚 Happy Holidays to you and your family!!!! 🦃🎄🎉

Awe ♥️😺 I'll give you a funny before I tell you about the opposite end of the spectrum. I love Elf on the Shelf shenanigans. There's so much clever stuff out there. My favorite one is the Silence of the Lambs one where Barbie is in a "well" 🤣🤣🤣 So for being a minimalist who's been through the same thing (abuse and bullying, plus lifelong depression), I feel like I don't deserve presents, like I push people and emotions away to I guess feel control of things in order to not get hurt. If I have stuff, I have memories. Why would I want to be open enough for memories if I might get hurt or abused again? I talked to my loving boyfriend about some of this, and he understands. I did indulge a little and bought four cute Christmas decor items last holiday season. I might put them out soon just to cheer myself up 😄 It's just the usual weird fall in Dallas right now. Not wintery at all.
