This is my first KZbin comment! This episode made me cry. I’ve been watching your channel for a long time now. I suffer from ocd and been practising in a minimal for a long time. I never understood hoarding disorder, and I would get mad with family members who suffer from it. Your channel has helped me to understand them and why they are the way they are. It has helped me regain relationships I lost because of our conflicting disorders. So thank you so much for explain things and your logic behind everything! With much love Bec from Australia.

When you loop back around to those clothes from your early twenties, consider keeping one outfit that represents that era the best for you. I have one outfit, minus shoes, that my corpulent keister will NEVER fit in again. It gets revisited every time I declutter and makes the cut every time so far.

I just figured out that we're about the same age, I graduated in 2002. I had my first child at 19, and I just wanted to let you know how much those Mama's are going to appreciate those crocheted items. I just put together a hope chest for my kids baby items, because we were young and poor, those handmade crocheted items were some of the things we kept. They meant a lot, because we didn't have a lot at the time. I love watching you declutter, and I keep imagining the way other people are being blessed by the items you're letting go. Great job, I love seeing your home transform.

Have you considered making a tshirt quilt out of your shirts from college? That's what we did with my husband's shirts last year. We used the company Project Repat. That way he can keep his memories and we made it into something we can actually see and use.

I thought the same about old clothing from college then I felt the clothes and felt how crunchy the elastics got, the bad fabric etc and the nostalgia turned to disgust and off it went to the dumpster. That really helps me.

Yes, sadly instead of being able to let go and others use it it needs to go in the landfill. I had that happen to a few of my clothes which I kept because I wanted to loose that weight that I gained.

EPIC PROGRESS!!!!! Well done..... I can see your confidence and decluttering skill growing. It’s hard work I feel the same. Slow and steady wins the race for sure 💕❤️💜 I agree keep whatever you want. If you love and need your old toys keep them. One day you may want to let them go or not. It really doesn’t matter at this point. Whatever allows you to continue and progress. We each know what feels right for us right now 💓 I still have loads of my toys 50 plus years on ❤️

Hi Melanie! I'm watching your videos for a year now. I'm happy to see your progress! And so proud of you. My mother never did this step and I had clear out her house when she was dead. I has spended the day with my children on a lake. They played with sticks and mud. I'm sitting in my backyard right know. And listen to the birds songs and the cricket concert. I received the recommendation of your video and started joyful to watch it (as always). But I just came till the toy bins. I was so in peace with this day. Sticks and mud, Melanie! No clutter, no tidy up, no boxing and keeping, and giving away, no dusting or sadness about broken toys. Maybe, at one point, we can enjoy sticks and mud again. And time with the loved ones, in the outside, instead of spending time alone in cluttered basements. Love from Germany ❤️❤️❤️

You are doing great and don’t sweat decluttering the sentimental stuff right now. Decluttering step by step and starting with the easier stuff makes sense and I feel like it will be much easier to declutter those things after you have organised everything and can go trough it by category, so by having everything from one category you can see what you really love the most and see that you still have many sentimental items even if you declutter some. But it must be so satisfying to organize the basement and have everything in neatly labelled bins Instead of random bags and cardboard boxes mixed with trash!

As difficult as seeing your teenage and childhood items may be, I still can feel how they bring you a freeing and fun nostalgia, and it's fun whe you say something about the history of each thing and how you remember them. But the best part has to be when you feel good decluttering those items, cause you are not a kid os teenager anymore, you are such a strong woman

I like to take a photo of things that bring me good memories and make a photo book. I found that photos bring back the same memories and photo albums are a lot easier to look through and remember than pulling out lots of bins, and photo albums take up less space! :)

Hello! You are such a terrific example of giving grace to yourself. I follow your videos to see your amazing progress and to be reminded how important it is to talk kindly to ourselves and to not focus on past choices that we see differently, now. It is so refreshing to see people showing true self-improvement with real, small steps. That reminds the rest of us that we can tackle overwhelming jobs in small chunks in order to see huge improvements later. FYI, Best Buy accepts old electronics for recycling. Old towels, blankets and sheets can be donated to animal shelters, too. Enjoy your weekend!! 💜

Kudos to you that you are tackling your hoard by yourself. Glad to see you are making progress in tossing, donating things you’re ready to part with. I’m sure your surprised at how often you have duplicates of things, because you couldn’t find the previous ones. We all have some hoarding tendencies! I found out myself when downsizing from a 4,000 sf house to 2,200 sf. I had to ask myself, will I have space for it, will I either use it again, can I wear it again? I had lots of craft stuff too, and had to ask myself, will I ever finish it?

When we are at the initial step of decluttering ,the baby steps are okey. But this video seems that ahe is still holding on to. Still emotional attachment is strong. A definate decision and mindful approach is required. She must emotionally learn to let go of things. Letting go of stıuff does not mean to forget that memory. We can never forget the love and emotions we have or had. Emotions can not be ereased or supressed however they can be directed to a positive way. Garage sale she did in the past is also firing her hoarding habit.
