As a therapist experienced working with hoarding disorder please ignore the few critical comments. Beyond making progress you are maintaining it and watching you brings joy as this is a difficult disorder to recover from. It takes as long as it takes. Easy declutter stuff sprinkled over the rest makes sense it’s like a warmup exercise. You are doing great.

Looking on empty boxes as "warm up exercise" is a great way of looking at it. Those who suggest Miss Heart tries to find empty boxes all over the basement will mean she is left with nothing apart from Heavy Lifting

I donated all of my Beanie Babies to Operation Christmas Child. The person who organized the event at my church said they packed really well in the shoe boxes. They were just living in a tote at my house, so I hope they are blessing children this year!

It used to be you'd run across those dalmatian stickers and that would be the end of the day, lost in memories and stress. Now I'm proud of how quickly you put them in the sentimental box to get to later. Sentimental items no longer mean you stop decluttering which is fantastic! Good job :) Merry Christmas

The back wall is so close! If you focus on a path you can cut your way all the way to the back in a few more decluttering sessions! So exciting. Also things to keep in mind for when you do get to the sentimental: 1. I 100% agree with you. Declutter each sentimental category event. It’s very overwhelming all at once. 2. Some of those vintage childhood items can resell for quite a bit of money. It might help motivate you to part with some excess items you’re on the fence about and you can raise money for another house project or a charity event. 3. Are the items you’re keeping going to be passed on or displayed in your house? It’s tragic having beautiful sentimental items stored in a box in the basement. They should be displayed to make you happy! Obviously this is all in good time! And like clothes don’t fool yourself into thinking that since you’ve decluttered once that you shouldn’t look at the items again. Do a little bit. Part with only what you feel comfortable letting go of and over the years you can continue to curate and let things go. 😁 you can also read into Swedish Death Cleaning (sounds scary but it’s very practical) for sentimental items. You are amazing and I love following your journey!

You did great today! Something to think about, since you did so well with the play area. Would it be more motivating to designate another part of the basement as your craft area, and set yourself a goal to get that put together as a reward for all the hard work that you have put into this space for the past couple of years?
@christineshultz76152 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Designate a space for crafts. Locate all craft tubs as you are continuing to declutter and just temporarily hold the space. Then design you crafting space.

Earlier this year, my sister and I found our old Beanie Babies in my mom's basement. We had a huge tub of them between us. We had a lot of fun going through them, and then kept the ones we were sentimental about (the ones we actually remember playing with) and a few that were just really cool, and then let the rest go. My favorite rediscovery was that we had a whole set of the mini ones from McDonalds that were for the 1996 Presidential election. I miss the 90's lol!

Those My Little Pony and Care Bears cases/tins are probably worth a lot of money, if you do decide to let them go later on you should definitely see how much they are going for on eBay. Normally I just say donate and let someone else make the money, but in this case you deserve it, should you end up parting with them! That 80s stuff is so hard to find!

I still have my TY Beanie Babies. I donated several Ty Beanie Babies several years ago to thin down my collection. For my hoarded collections I go to a single area to declutter and go slowly. I bag the decluttered items and wait a day. I have PTSD seeing certain decluttered item which I can retrieve that item and then let the other decluttered items go to donation. After I have retrieved the item then I put the declutter bag of items in my car and take to donation immediately rather than wait several days later. I thank you for your support in giving me the courage to declutter my items. Unicorns Rule !

Dear parents! When Your kids are very good behaviour all the time and always taking good care of their things, keeping their rooms very clean, loving their favorite things and want to make nice childhood collections of their things: books, clothes, toys, video games, clothes, DVDs and etc, then donataing is very wrong thing to do. If You have few space then storage boxes and shelves will help You out and Your kids will be very happy and thankful then, if they can keep their favourite things. Childhood things are very valuable and it is very sad, if they won’t see them anymore in their life. Every child should have the right to keep their things, if they can take good care of them all the time!!! Respectfully, Astra Viil
