MS. Heart, do you think after your get this play section cleared up you could do a comparison video to how the basement looked when you first started? Your progress has been so amazing!

I was just about to comment that I would love an overview of the basement every couple of videos, because just looking at the floor and a small section doesn't really put it in perspective for me. It would really show the progress I think, and it would be nice to see it get more clear and organised as a whole :)

Next step might be to really use the plastic boxes for stacking, not only containing. Please only fill them so the lid still fits, and put the rest in the next box - you have enough free ones by now 😃 I know how much you love your pink christmastree, but it doesn’t belong in this corner anymore but under the staircase 😉 Label the boxes with Toys- to be sorted, and stack them all in the corner next to the shelve. Between the windows collect all your empty organizational stuff, including the little plastic drawer thingies for toys. And in the next corner, the one far in the right, stack everything for yardsales, church tables and so on.. you already started organizing like that, please take that in again! In the Long run, everything you don’t want to keep like yardsale stuff, should be stored in the garage. Hubby doesn’t need all of the space, and this way you can get it out easily. In that corner you can than start to sort your crafty things, set up shelves and tables for you and your boys.. I can imagine that so well, and already feel how happy all of you guys will be with a usable basement 💜

This progress is insane, Miss Heart! Congrats on your upcoming TV appearance, too! With the play area soon to be a thing, it would be awesome to have a “container” / a designated shelf (think Dana K. White!) where their toys have to fit comfortably into and BE in before the boys come back upstairs maybe, so that it’s not spilling over into your own declutteing progress? Visual clutter might be distracting, which would be a shame as currently the progress is inspiring you to keep chipping away! I’m sure the boys will want to help keep the new spaces tidy as their mommy has been doing such a good job in the basement, too! 🌟 It’s coming along so so well, I’m cheering you on so loudly I hope that you can hear from across the pond 🇬🇧 🦄 ✨

I am finally starting to get stuff out of my basement. So I don't consider myself a hoarder I do have hoarder tendencies..... And come from a long line of packrat so I would say that pack rat would be appropriate and the fact that I by nature I'm not a very organized person I also have ADHD. Anyhow I had the last basement of my house cleared out pretty good at one time and things were pretty simplified in my actual living areas too but we had moved for years ago and I wanted to keep the rest of my house simplified so I let probably 80% of the kids stuff in boxes in the basement and any kind of decor or anything that I didn't absolutely need out packed up with the problem was birthdays and holidays happened and we soon got to a level of clutter and those things never got brought up or went through like I had previously intended to do Also I was pregnant and very sick and then had a baby and have been very busy! My very energetic wild child just turned four and the kids were home all last year so I haven't had any time to think but now they're back at school I'm finally starting to get in a groove and I really want to tackle my basement also. I've been working a little bit at a time just bagging up some actual garbage and getting it out and I cleared a whole corner of my basement just by doing that I even cut up a carpet that had got ruined when the basement had flooded and that's all set to go out for the garbage either a little bit of time or all at once I'm not sure if I want to make the garbage men angry. 😉 Thanks for showing how little bits can get a lot of accomplished today I went through a huge box of papers and I was able to get rid of probably about 75% of the kids papers and 50 percent of the other things only keeping things that I deemed important or was too emotional too tackle at that moment I just did a quick easy decisions I'm sure that if I do another sweep later on I'd be able to let go of even more. But I at least know that all that obvious trash is out of there and I can relocate the other things too specific bins so I know it was gone through at least once. I found out my dog's birthday is on the 11th. 🤣 One of the papers was in there and I never knew what day her birthday was considered because she was adopted so that's what the adoption papers said so that was a good positive and I found something that had been missing for 4 years and I didn't know that it was in a box marked bills And I even got to look at some of the kids stories from kindergarten and second grade years. Downside was there that I also uncovered my missing computer which the box had gotten wet during the flood. Hopefully we still will be able to recover the pictures that are on it because they are very important to me. Bummer part for sure.

Thought, the basement looks to be another "landing zone hotspot". How can you start breaking the cycle of putting things down there to forget about? It looks a lot more "intentional" than drop your work bag by the front door as you run to sports; you need to choose to go down the stairs to place things down there. How many old boxes/envelopes from Christmas shopping online did you discover this year from last year? More candy, even after 2 years worth of realizations of how much candy actually enters to not be eaten? Rome wasn't built in a day, you are figuring things out for making new habits (like how you didn't realize how long certain morning tasks actually take), but if you turn the basement into functional space, it cannot have packaging just dumped & linger for months on end. Old candy might attract bugs or rodents too.
@Genauish3 жыл бұрын
A lot of the stuff she’s going through right now was moved down there when they cleaned out the toy room to turn into Tyler’s room and probably when they got new flooring. I don’t think she had any intentions of leaving it down there unsorted for so long. I believe she even said she wanted to address it but they had to quickly move everything out to make space for his new bed. I agree with what you’re saying though. It’s important to be intentional about what you’re bringing into a space and your home!

@3llenzinha3 жыл бұрын
Maybe it is not a good idea to make a playroom while the basement isnt even half declutered. It will only bring more clutter in there. Maybe if you could limite his space with so curtains, some kind of wall, dunno. Does anyone have more ideas?
@texadianstitcher3 жыл бұрын
I think the basement is at least 50-60% cleared out. But things I think get shuffled around a fair bit right now. Once she has everything gone through in a rough pass, she plans to do more in depth konmari declutters on similar items, that might help reduce the bulk too. Once the boys start going through the toys to "build" their play room, a bunch of bins may get freed up too. And miss heart remember, you do NOT need to keep every bin. If you end up with 20 extra bins, pass on 18 bins. Having all the extra bins might encourage you to hang onto things you don't necessarily need to. And you can always buy new bins if needed.
@becca3773 жыл бұрын
I was thinking this too, wondering if it will be still dangerous, dusty and potentially has mold from where water was coming in. It’s such a lovely idea, and such a nice motivator but I just wonder if it needs to wait until the basement is further along for safety?
@3llenzinha3 жыл бұрын
@@becca377 I couldnt agree more. If the deadline is christmas, she and her family could do an intensive decluttering week, or weekends, but again, her mental health is the most important thing here. And again, a playroom is a room with all the toys and games, what will happen with the rest of the toys around the house? The outdoor toys, the toys in The bedroom, the books, the legos? It is for both kids? Will be their responsability to clean, tidy and declutter? It needs to be thought through, you dont need to always say yes to your children. Give him an alternativa just as good.
@courtneyboud46113 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree. I think a lot of the stuff is going behind the camera where we aren't seeing it. The before and after is impressive, but where is all the stuff that's "keep" going? Another comment mentioned not having the playroom in the back, and instead put it in the front, and I think that's an awesome idea.
