Sadly it seems like the biggest problem this show has is that Ahsoka is too big of a character. To start no characters still alive besides Luke Han and Leia have the screentime and history that Ahsoka has. Second, Ahsoka is arguably the strongest/deadliest indivdual alive after the fall of Vader Sidious Obi Wan and Yoda and so in order to create tension the writers needed to create a character with a background that automatically puts that character in Ahsoka's league and while they have done a decent job with Balan because he was introduced so quickly and Ahsoka is so powerful it is still hard to believe that she could not take him in a fight. This is helped sold however due to Rosario's slow movement however it hurts the portrayal of Ahsoka much more than helps Balan. Overall a decent attempt but I honestly expected more from Filoni in terms of story as this is in his realm. Not awful but not great.

I was a bit underwhelmed at first as well. The best part of this episode was EZRA, EZRA, EZRA. The actor is killing it. Great chemistry between them. I would have loved to see Ezra wield his saber, BUT it was super cool to see him master hand to hand combat through the force. My biggest criticism of the post ROTJ world building is the lack of notoriety and awareness in the galaxy - let alone within the New Republic itself - of Heroes of the rebellion Luke Skywalker; Han Solo; Chewbacca; Wedge Antilles; Admiral Ackbar, Princess Leia and General Calrissian. How does Carson Teva NOT know Luke Skywalker? Why did he react like he had never heard of a jedi when a Jedi fly in Rogue Squadron? Why don't all the Rebel pilots know and revere Luke Skywalker? Where is the Rebel military chain of command? The Legends books did such a superior job of fleshing out the military command structure. Why wasn't Hera hauled before Ackbar, not Mon Mothma? They don't have to appear in the episodes but the orginal legacy characters (except for maybe Leia) are not even mentioned. They should be part of the world building by reference at least. I cannot take any of the new Republic scenes seriously in any of the Disney+ shows without this feature being built out. They did a great job of doing this on Lothal - Ezra; Sabine Zeb Hera Kanan and Chopper are rightly viewed as the saviours of Lothal. They built statues to them. Them have haolidays and cermonies. Where is the similar knowledge and recognition of Wedge and Lando for blowing up the Death Star over Endor? Where is the same recognition for newly minted Jedi Luke Skywalker - who blew up the first death star and then taking down the Emperor? I cannot take this world seriously without this world building. This was the same problem with the trilogy sequels and the First Order. Dave Filoni - please read this and give it to us. You can do this. You did it in Clone Wars and Rebels!! Do it here.

I agree with a lot of your criticisms Grace. I also agree we should just move on from the OT three leads. Leia should be recasted if they want her to be involved more. I also agree Ahsoka has been depowered quite a bit in terms of movement and agility, I guess live action just really limits action in terms of choreography and visuals. We also have to consider that the budget for this show just could not be enough to transfer everything needed to get this show at top tier. With the theater showing of Episode 5, I think Disney was testing the waters and gaging how many people would show up to the showings and that way they can gage the budget for future Ahsoka show related projects like the film. Overall I think your criticisms are a result of Disney+ budgeting.

I think it’s so disingenuous to manufacture a “clone wars” vs “rebels” conflict. It’s on you for not watching the entirety of clone wars when your fans/subscribers have been telling you to do so for years

I’m maaaad Grace! You have to learn to appreciate better the Ahsoka greatness! 😱 I guess Ahsoka is supposed to portray strong female characters overall and I love it, don’t you think?

For some reason, Grace does not like the Ahsoka character, and it colors her commentary
@etong4595 Жыл бұрын
@@jillg9108I love Ahsoka, but there’s not much to like about this version. There’s not much to like about this series if your looking at it from just the basics of storytelling and good filmmaking. The member berries are nice but they only go so far. I don’t always agree with Grace but she is being fair to this show. You should like it or not, but that should be your prerogative and not attack those that feel otherwise. Although, if you are looking to pursue a job writing or filmmaking listen to valid criticism.

I have a question, what do you think of Sabine and Ezra's relationship now?
@tichymusicrecords Жыл бұрын
I love her because she played a major role in clone wars at the end of it and also in rebels as well she is in both stories and I think her appearance in rebels was really awesome in all her appearances throughout the story

Grace, Ezra wasn't a super advanced jedi. He wasn't being trained by a jedi master. Kanan was only 14 when the empire fell so he didn't have the ability to train Ezra to make him the powerful jedi you think Ezra is. Ezra was very strong with the force, but he wasn't well trained in lightsaber fighting. Also he hasn't touched a lightsaber in 10 years so why would you expect him to be this strong jedi with top lightsaber skills? 😂

Grace, I love your comments on the business side and I quite often like your from the outside, « normie » comments on Star Wars, but this I just couldn’t get through. You really, really, really need to watch all of Clone Wars in order to get Ashoka. Oh, and the Clone Wars vs Rebels fans idea isn’t a thing, which you’d also get if you watched Clone Wars.
@beadragon1048 Жыл бұрын
Ahsoka, to be truly appreciated, has to be seen in the Clone Wars and in her journey from Anakins Padwan to a formidable Jedi herself. I feel so much is missed and can’t be appreciated if you only watch a few key episodes. So much growth in her character through her story arcs in that series. I’m not saying you have to watch every single episode but you should catch the ones she’s featured in. She’s hands down my favorite character in Star Wars because I put in the time to watch those. Just my two cents Grace, lol! 🤓

It is not his lightsaber anymore, his choice here made me think he's even more powerful. Saying the force is my ally seconds before facing down armed squads is incredibly badass.

maybe it's because he could cut down entire platoons of troopers that they chose not to let him go all out. ezra is pretty op by this time. but it is kind of weird that after taking thrawn to this new galaxy, they just went their separate ways to live and let live.

I feel like nobody is noticing that thrawn threw everything he had at them. He would have loved to kill them and tried with mines and fighters and it just didn’t work. if it wasn’t ahsoka and jedi thrawn would’ve destroyed them immediatly. Also ezra is a medium power level in the grand scheme of things.

I think the cynicism from the New Republic is not that space whales can't exist, but that they have gone to a specific location. Just like missing hyperdrives doesn't mean that a ship jumped to a distant galaxy to specifically find Thrawn. It also makes sense that politicians don't want to believe there is going to be another war, having just recently got out of one.

If Baylan is looking for Abeloth I will be amazed. I’ve seen a lot of people theorize that’s the direction we’re going in. It would be absolutely insane.
@celebfantastiq Жыл бұрын
Which is why this should have been a true Rebels sequel and had Sabine as the lead, going after Thrawn etc. Ahsoka going after Baylan and trying to stop him would have made more sense, since she was missing during the whole Thrawn arc of Rebels. This whole show is flipped because of fan service.
@ethanmattix Жыл бұрын
@@celebfantastiqI see literally none of this as fan service. They picked the character with more fans, Ahsoka. I see this show attempting to appeal to both Clone Wars and Rebels fans, which is why they included characters from both. I've loved every episode. I enjoy just having a good time.

@@andrewprice8940 That is genuinely a terrible criticism. They only just revealed in episode 6 that he's looking for something at all. Not like we've spent 7 episodes wondering. We've spent barely 2. And that's literally the whole point. It's a mystery. It's supposed to get people talking. It wouldn't be a mystery if they revealed what he's looking for right away.

I think it’s because you don’t realize that Clone Wars was about Ahsoka and her growth, not Anikans and Kenobi, though it became a show about them just because of who they were. Rebels wasn’t about her hence the limited appearances. Filoni really should have made this a true Rebels sequel with Ashoka’s struggle the B story that tied into whatever Baylan is up to. It just shows how disjointed this show is and how fan service played into its creation.
@jamesbrigham1299 Жыл бұрын
Any divide is Casual Star Wars fans and legacy EU fans. One sees, no inconsistency between the series and Star Wars lore. Lore defines how the universe works and the characters personality. Ezra was never good with the lightsaber, because Kanaan was just a padawan himself, attempting to instruct Ezra. So Ezra's force education was severely lacking. he was more of a light-side force user, than a Jedi. Ahsoka would also meet the same classification. Thrawn's character only slightly matches his persona from the Thrawn novel. If anyone is really interested in how great Thrawn is, should get the Thrawn audiobook on audible. You won't be disappointed and you'll see how he doesn't fully match. Never like the "space whale" plot device, now or in Rebels. Wish someone had hired a "lightsaber fight coordinator". I agree she is slow and I've seen better done on some Star Wars fan fiction.(Maul on KZbin). That said, I do like Ahsoka as a main character. Just wish the writing was better and done by people who know Star Wars. And they spent some time with the choreography. For those who don't know Thrawn, he wasn't evil. He was a keen and meticulously warrior.

"Ezra's a pacifist". "I'm upset he didn't do more with the Force!" Which one is it? Also who said Ezra was a pacifist? Ezra surely didn't. Ezra said the Noti were peaceful. That's it. Also Ventress is dead.

For me, it wasn't the fact that he didn't use the light sabre, but that he was so underwhelming in the fight generally. I get he's been in isolation, but he just wasn't really a jedi in that fight...

One thing that comes to mind is when Ahsoka is calling for Sabine and then Sabine feels her presence. This is a parallel to Luke and Leia in episode 5. Luke calls out for Leia and then she feels Luke. So one could argue that Sabine has some force sensitivity

Gotta say. I think Grace is actually dead on with her evaluation. There is A LOT of ground to cover in the last episode and it seems like this one was a bit of filler. 17:09 I believe what they’re exploring now is Anakin, as the chosen one is rolled balance to force extends beyond, and he’s become a Father Mortis God. There was a point during the animated series, where that was presented, and alluded to.
