Every moment Ray Stevenson is on screen is both incredible and so sad at the same time. He has such a presence and commands every scene and piece of dialogue he has that it is crushing that we know we will not be getting anymore of him. I've not been so intrigued by a character in Star Wars since Kylo Ren.

@@paulernst1982 Anakin walked her through certain key memories of her past, so she could understand her purpose, her will and overcome her guilt. Ever since the aftermath of Order 66 and Anakin's fall, Ahsoka has been plagued with a deep sense of guilt, shame and regret, even after they defeated the Empire. It's been stalling her from becoming a wholesome person and achieve her full potential. Anakin helped her overcome that and get closure. It was absolutely necessary. In fact, it's one of the most important character moments of the entire saga. Not to mention seeing Anakin (the main character in Star Wars), now acting as One with the Force.

Actually, I felt that Thrawn (albeit somewhat reminiscent of a Blue Elon) was presented rather strikingly. In fact, without much explanation: all of these imperials are extremely interesting. I'm particularly enamored with the East meets West motif; these sort of ravaged and scavenged Romano-Japanese stormtroopers--a Kintsugi-Legion, if you will.

I don't mind Thrawn "bigger" look, he is much older then he was in Rebels. In the books he fought with Anakin in the Clone Wars as basically a Captain in the his people's navy so he is likely just over 70 or so now and while we don't know how long the Chiss (his people) live we can assume he is actually getting up there in years.

But why are none of these characters even mentioned in the Sequel Trilogy (other than the real-world business side where none of these characters were even created or meant to interact in any way)? This is the big conundrum. The Filoniverse makes little to no sense in the same timeline as the Sequel Trilogy, where all these characters have nothing to do with any of it and are, at worst, dead, gone, and long forgotten...

Grace, I don’t appreciate the total dismissing of Clone Wars. It is the original animated show, most definitely on par with Rebels, and you can absolutely watch it by only watching the main story episodes. That removes a significant amount of episodes from all seven seasons. It makes sense that you loved Rebels, as you only watched the non-filler episodes, so I seriously encourage you to give Clone Wars a shot. The story may be moving forwards in terms of the timeline, but the characters certainly aren’t, and Ahsoka is and will be a major player going forward, and having not watched the show that introduced her and featured most of her character development totally ruins your understanding and appreciation of the character and what Rosario Dawson is doing with it now.

Morgan's ship and the Eye of Sion to me feel very Old Republic. The eye of Sion might have it's name from the ancient Sith lord Darth Sion who could not die. He was physically holding himself together with the force to keep himself alive. He was the lord of pain. The other 2 notable sith that were loosely allied with him were Darth Traya who was a master manipulator, and Darth Nihilus who was the lord of Hunger. His physical body had been destroyed and he survived by draining the life out of entire planets and beings. I actually don't mind Thrawn's look. I didn't think he looked amazing in the trailer, but he looked better here. In the timeline he is supposed to be about 10 years older than when we last saw him in Rebels.

The fact that you saw and enjoyed one of the animated shows. Clone Wars, Rebels or Bad Batch, that makes you 100% a Filoni fan. I have a friend that saw only 1 of 3 animated shows and love both Mandalorian and Ahsoka, some episodes not so much but likes the path these shows are taking. So I think that even if you see one of those shows and like it, you are without a doubt a Filoni fan. And it’s understandable to not see every piece of Star Wars content because even if I love Clone Wars, I get it Can be too much. And even more so if you add Rebels and Bad Batch. So in my opinion, any animated show fan supports these live action shows one way or another

Grace, considering how slow it is right now, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND at least watching the last short season of The Clone Wars. It’s incredible start to finish and it will enhance the Ahsoka experience, especially with Anakins appearance in the last episode. If that’s too much then watch the last 4 episodes of the finale season. I was putting it off at first too but I ended up watching the entire thing and I’m so glad that I did. You will come to appreciate the complexity of Ahsokas relationship with her master and it will show you the most incredible lightsaber battle in animation ever! Ahsoka vs. Maul is jaw dropping! Last it actually illustrates Anikins turn to the dark side from a different perspective. It will rip your heart out in the last episode as it connects so many storylines but you will really appreciate how everything ties together now. I really hope you treat yourself and take my advice! Lol 🙏🤓

@@DannyBoydPhoto Personally, I feel not every grand meeting has to be some big dramatic moment. I’ve had a situation where I hadn’t seen a friend in over 12 years and when we saw each other again we didn’t dramatically run up to each other and embrace. We laughed, roasted each other and then hugged. It was nice just absorb each other’s energies like no time had passed at all. That’s the same vibe I got from Ezra and Sabine. They were never touchy touchy like that in the show anyways so to me that felt like the characters from Rebels, even tho it’s been a decade, no time had passed for them at all. But I understand if you wanted to see an epic emotional return it’s “disappointing”/ low energy but the smile on my face was huge when Ezra appeared.

Grace, the witches aren’t new, they are from Clone Wars and were very prominent. Daphamere is where darth Maul is from. They helped heal him and also one of their sisters was Dooku’s apprentice. These witches are known for bringing spirits back from the dead. Those containers being loaded on Thran’s ship are most likely undead troopers or some dead males or females of their own. So this episode was actually a 50/50 mix of Clone wars and Rebels. If you haven’t watched Clone Wars you wouldn’t know this so you get a pass. Lol

Ezra has been the missing piece this show has needed all along. When the credits rolled, I was like “damn, it’s already over.” I just didn’t want the scene to end, which is a sign they were doing something right with the storytelling. Not all cliffhangers have to involve peril; some can be you just wanting to see more of what’s going to happen next. And it was nice writing with Ezra basically wondering aloud when they would get around to him. The fans were wondering that too. “How long are you going to leave me hanging out in the wilderness, Sabine?”

I live the OT, the prequels, and Clone Wars and Rebels, I also read the Timothy Zan trilogy when it was originally released. I enjoyed the Mandolorian as a side story but Ahsoka has everything that makes Star Wars … Star Wars. Filoni honors George Lucas’s vision/ the lore and moves Star Wars forward. I loved both 5 and 6. I loved 5 more because the sequels ruined Anakin as the chosen one and Dave Filoni has found a way to suggest Anakin is still the chosen one in a even bigger way. Sabine and the turtle like creatures brought back vibes of when Leia meets the Ewoks.

@@michaelhutchings6602it's a new show that is a continuation of those shows so it's basically like watching season 5 without having seen previous shows E.g.... @@michaelhutchings6602you are absolutely right. What die hard fans don't understand is that more than 50% of potential large screen viewers are not even going to entertain watching a 100 episodes of a cartoon to prep for a movie. And if fans feel this is necessary and even if the filoni movie is great for fans it will never do well and you won't see a 2nd movie. Hate to say it but the story will have to be dumbed down and digestible by main stream.

23:37 in the books both legend and canon thrawn is known to lead his stormtroopers very differently than the rest of the empire. Instead of using fear he gains their respect and awards creativity. So this makes sense that they are all chanting his name and have different markings.

I never saw Rebels, or actually any of the animated things. Never read the books, either. But I'm pretty enthralled anyway- and there are enough "high fantasy" tropes in the story to make following along really easy, if you're into that sort of thing (high fantasy and space opera genre stuff) like I am. I love it!

Giant circular Hyperdrive ring reminded me of giant, spherical Death Star. Yeah, not sure about your view that this is something we haven't seen before. Also, in the Prequels Obi-wan attached his Jedi starfighter to a hyperdrive ring to travel at lightspeed between worlds. So this is just a bigger version of that.

It's interesting how this show is the opposite of the sequels; Sabine can't just 'let the Force in', and needs discipline and training, strong focus on mentors and how their wisdom needs to be respected, hyperspace rams aren't a thing, when you find a long lost Jedi, he doesn't tell you to go away. Not to mention much more emphasis on monsters and creatures like a proper myth, and actually acknowledging Anakin and the prequels. And new elements (for the casual fans) like Nightsisters and fallen Jedi, along with exploring what the New Republic is, instead of just annihilating it.

Did you just say you hope Anakin doesn't come back??? If so, you just don't get Star Wars. That's the most ridiculous comment ever, and I can assure you that you're going to get more Anakin. But you thought episode 5 was a bust when it was the best Star Wars content since the animated series. And the best live action episode to date.

Hey Grace. Great review. I feel like they are borrowing from Lord of the Rings moreso than Game of Thrones. Ahsoka the white for example. However, Game of Thrones in its turn borrowed from LOTR, so tomato, tomato. I am curious what Baylan is seeking in this stories equivalent of Mount Doom and will he reveal a Sauron-type character who is the real bad guy. Can’t wait for next week! Really enjoying the show.

why can't they be original like Lucas? because the writers (Filoni and Co) are limited, and all they can do is copy successful stories, they have like no imagination, and write stupid content just to create a weak story

Great Villains make such a difference and everyone really needs to give Filoni credit with his Villains. There actually a threat and have allure to them unlike the sequel movies. If Kylo Ren wasn’t played by Adam Driver the character would of fell flat on his face. Because he did absolutely freaking nothing to deserve the rep and cool factor

Actually, real world politics is sometimes VERY cyclical. I’m from France and the French political regimes from the Revolution (1789) to the end of the 19th century were : Monarchy > Republic > Empire > Monarchy > Republic > Empire > Republic. This unstability lasted 80 years and was caused by the strong opposition between republicans, monarchists and "bonapartists" (supporters of Napoleon). Come to think of it, this is quite similar to politics in the Star Wars universe!
