Kubota L3010 Glow Plug Relay and Controller Replacement

The glow plug light on my Kubota L3010 kept flashing, not coming on or staying on. I did some research and found the 2 components that are most likely to cause this. I ordered the parts through Messick's and show how to install them.

I found the easy way to work the tach cable. Follow it to the end on the engine. Take it loose there and you can then pull the entire cluster farther away from the position it is mounted in. I found this out the hard way. Hope it helps someone.

Thanks for this video I'm sure I saved $500.00 on dealership labor. The suggestion of disconnecting the Tach cable at the front of the engine is the way to go.

Thank you I appreciate it. I ended up disconnecting tachometer easily from the engine and pulled it forward. My relay arrived before my controller. I replaced the relay instantly works like new. Light comes on less than eight seconds later goes off does not come back on. Aftermarket relay $32 found the OEM controller $13 eBay. I will keep the controller as backup in case that decides to go out later

Thanks for the upload the indicator light on my 3010 will come on no problem there it just wont go off but it will flash on and off periodically while in use and I have noticed when it flashes on and off it causes my headlights to dim. Did yours do the same I would like to call myself mechanically inclined but as far as diesel engine's I'm in the same boat as you brother this my first tractor it's probably as old as yours but when I got it it only had like 700 hours it was barn kept and was owned by a old lady that only used it for bushhoging her 2 pastor's and unloading hay bell's

No problem! I am not sure if it caused my headlights to dim, I honestly never thought to check that and I hardly use the machine at night so not sure I would have noticed to be honest lol. Kinda learning as I go with the diesel thing. Not too hard.

head lights will dim because of high current draw from glow plugs when relay closes. Sounds like either a bad controller or temp sensor or sensor wiring or sensor connector.

My 1715 tractor has a coil instead of light indicator. I replaced the indicator and it immediately burned out. Would a bad relay cause that? Im afraid to burn out another GP indicator if the really isn't the problem like maybe a bad ground wire?

I had the same problem . I bought a heavy duty push button drilled a hole in in the plastic unhooked the wire down at the glow plugs taped it .put a fuse near the battery ran a wire from battery to 1 side of the button other side to glow plugs now I hold the button in a full minute in cold weather starts instantly .I fought like you did an later it quit again .

I was able to find some OEM parts so I went that route, unfortunately this machine is old and has sat outside its whole life prior to my ownership. A lot of the components are starting to show their age. I am hoping to get it inside soon.

@@ACHAutomotive mine sets in a unheated barn but I think the change in temperature caused mine to sweat an go bad. Also the fuel selinoid an or it's relay acted up .If I ever have this problem u can pull the wire at the selinoid connection an it stays in the open position u can stop it by the manual pull lever just have to remember to turn the key off😀

Also my fuel shut of sender or relay started acting up if this happens to u yours u can pull the wire at the selinoid connection it then remains open an you can kill it with the manual knob but don't forget to turn the key off like I did anyway it is a handy temperary fix in a pinch😁

Trace the tachometer down to the motor and take it loose there. It is much easier.

could also be a temp sensor or a chewed sensor wire. Noticed that the tractor temp gauge showed it wasn't cold either which would prevent the glow plugs from not coming on while engine is warm.

It was definitely the glow plug controller/relay. I may have had it running prior to shooting the video. I'd have to go back and watch it but the repair I made corrected the problem and that issue has gone away and not come back.
