England embraces the theme of the episode by quickly building a wall of cities around London very early. Poland thought it could mess with Russia, but in all possible worlds Poland must suffer. Germany builds it's own wall of cities. Austria was biding its time, waiting, for its revenge. At the same time, Germany's fortress is destroyed by Russia. The Romans come out of nowhere and position themselves as a superpower. The battle of Amsterdam has been going on for generations. The british reconquista begins France comes out of nowhere, snipes a city form England and crushes Rome. The british reconquista is done, how long will it last? Not much, as England soon falls before France. Half the map belongs to each superpower, but France has the technological edge. Russia is using England as a buffer state to protect it's southern border, but the peace between the franch and the biriths will soon end. Russia is cruches and as the last englishman falls on his sword a cry can be heard: "Vive la France!"

Argument: Center civs can expand in many directions. I think the terrain used, desert, might be the thing to blame.
@iamstoopid39546 жыл бұрын
Plazmatothemax It's better to be safe in the corner, horde up army counts, let others fight their wars, and strike when neighboring civs are weak. Center civ is most probable to be engaged in a war, since it neighbors ALL civs, and due to frequent wars, troop counts will be diminished for defense and cities will constantly have to be building units, rather than progressing in buildings and tech. Center civ is also the target of all neighboring cities' religious influence, deeming it hard to sustain its own religion. Being able to expand in many directions is not an advantage. When you take over cities, you're focusing one at a time, not 5 different cities at once. This scheme is also applicable for corner civs, so being able to attack in many directions is not an advantage. Also, center civ could have troops focusing on a city that's on one side of the map, which opens up an opportunity for attack by another civ on the opposite side of the map.
@Plazmatothemax6 жыл бұрын
Well, 2 things to respond. Safety in a corner can become a tomb, if you're killed off first, as I have seen in some other Civ V ai battles, since they only have 1 city, whilst the other had 3, and took the only city the civ had. the second thing, this is AI we're talking about. Yes, being in a multiple front war is bad, but depending on the civ there, it actually benefits them to have multiple options to attack, as the need for gold and new luxuries arise. Problem with my second part is, we never see the economy they have, or know who controls the luxuries. Yes, the religion argument is valid, except it isn't when you don't care about religion in a domination victory, as you can allow someone else's religion be yours. I always found the religion aspect in this game a bit lacking. Inquisitors, Missionaries, and Prophets, are a bit...misused. You should be able to kill other missionaries with inquisitors without starting a war with the civ. and you should be able to remove enemy religions with your own, or replace, since that makes the certain enhancements actually USEFUL in more situations than the simple ones. Casus Belli and other things could have added a lot to the game. but...it didn't end that way.
@iamstoopid39546 жыл бұрын
1) I don't understand by corner can be a tomb "if you're killed off first." Are you talking about a 1v1 or 1v2 interaction from lateral neighbors? Center would be having a 1v8 interaction with lateral + diagonal neighbors. When I say that corner civs have advantages over center civ, I'm talking about a statistical advantage with RNG involved, since this is AI. I am not saying that it's 100% impossible to win as a center. 2) Being in a multiple front war is terrible, as you have no option but to spam produce units just to be able to survive, as I have already said. While corner civs *HAVE the option* to become tech giants, center civ will be stuck in stone age. 3) You clearly have not enough practice or comprehension of the depth and utility of religion. If you decide to uptake an enemy's religion, you ONLY take their "Follower Beliefs." You are missing out on the most important buffs which are in "Founder Beliefs" and "Enhancer Beliefs". The most competitive in Founder Belief is "Tithe" which provides 1 gold for every 4 followers, which is more applicable in standard matches, not in this mosh pit. The most OP Enhancer Belief for this tiny map is "Defender of the Faith" and "Just War" for instant 20% damage for basically anywhere on this entire small map. Watch a youtuber named "filthyrobot." He is hands down THE best civ 5 player on youtube, and he is famous for ranking Civs and wonders. He has a really good game using the Piety tree for 1v5 Deity AI, permanent war ON (link: watch?v=SQaYywetOLs&t=3s). Every unit he killed provided massive culture, gold, and faith. This guy is the GOD of min/maxing everything at a microscopic scale. He is overflowing with information. 4) Like I said, this is RNG. Certain civs ALSO have advantages over other civs, just based on civ bonuses. For example, Shoshones will basically cover all of the other civs' lands at the start of the game. Same religious war strats applies. And civs like Venice will basically be screwed, since they cannot capture any cities. Also Vienna would be at a disadvantage because their civ bonus is nonexistent, since there are no city states. Also, wtf is Polynesia gonna do. There's no continents. Some civs have OP military units. Etc, etc. 5) If this were humans playing on this map, it would be even more evident that center civs have a disadvantage. AI combat in civ 5, even in Deity, is terrible, making the corner advantage seem less evident. The reason why deity is hard is because AIs have super buffs. They construct and train twice as fast, take only 60% of the unhappiness, start with a settler and 2 workers, and etc.

I heard people saying that with "big army" I can prevent them from attacking me, but if 10-15 good units I am usually going for (and eventually increase it, if needed) is not enough to prevent them from attacking me, then I think I will just save my gold and production for improving my cities and stuff, while fighting strategically with smaller army, if they attack... I still can't win peacefully :-(
