"Don't step over the sword" "Don't leave it laying around" "Don't walk behind someone using a bokken" "Be aware of your surroundings" Couldn't agree more with all of this advice :)

aha, after leaving a reply to a comment, i did read all the other comments. The video doesnt show aikido bokken. it might show iaodo or other worthy system of sword or bokken training, and i am certainly not wanting to denigrate the skills of this long term budoka, but, as other people correctly also noticed, its not aikibokken. Kids, enjoy thisclip but DONT use it for aikibokken, especially the footwork (stance) in this clip is certainly not the aikibokken style and method. This is merely a case calling an apple an apple, again not a value judgement. Its obvious this master knows his stuff, but i would like the proper name of it. edit. i made this comment halfway. i should have watched the whole clip though. "70% on the left leg, 30% on the right leg." no no jo dear Ken, this is absolute not aikido. we specifically put most of our weight on the right leg (the leg in front of us.) This is crucial.

Dear Ken, This isn't even close to aikido.

Bokken is Aikido weapons training just like jo and tanto

@@soulburst I know. But Ken here is doing it wrong. Don't call this aikido. His "basic suburi stance" is rediculous.

@@Afrikoe obviously you don't it is correct

Watanabe Sensei has 30 years of experience and studied directly under Rev. Kensho Furuya. To our knowledge he is doing it correct. Based on your comment, I guess "right" is subjective. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.

@@soulburst No, it is not. What is seen in the video is a simple demonstration of a very basic posture to perform kiri-otoshi suburi. It is not about Aikken, so the title "Aikido bokken basics" doesn't really make sense in relation to _Aikiken_ . Sometimes many people find it difficult to understand that the only sword of Aikido is the one developed in Iwama by O Sensei and Saito Morihiro Sensei, that is _Aikiken_ . Everything that is outside of it for Aikido is either Iaido (mainly Shinto Muso Ryu) or variations of kenjutsu styles from some classical schools or another (Kashima or Yagyu Shinkage for example). This type of exercise is usually done as a warm-up.
