Congratulations! You are the very first Aikidoka I've seen that looks to be in touch with reality and has applicable techniques. I'm subscribing.

I love the funakogi on the chest/body in addition to the hijiotosh.... Fantastic! I've been practicing for 30 years and haven't connected the dots on that one... That's why I love Aikido

How would you defend a straight punch. Most are fast like a piston

lipscovc side step, or lengthen your line, or close the distance, drop to a horse stance and obliterate the groin.

Great question! I'll be posting more videos soon and I'll address that type of attack.

Just step back... the jab is only a threat if you are in a ring and can't keep your distance. In Aikido it's call mai'ai and it's one of the first techniques taught, but few understand it. If you can't keep your distance you step off the line of attack, which is one of the first techniques taught in Aikido, but few understand it. If you are off the line of attack (not standing in front of the attacker) then he has a hard time punching or attacking you. So if someone is coming at you with fists up, the best thing is to walk the other way or run the other way. If you can't run, then pick up something and overwhelm them with self-defense with a large weapon. If you have no weapon then you step back and to the side or step forward to the side and then push the attacker away and then run. If your leg is broken and you can't run, then you can then try to play Bruce Lee, but the odds are that you aren't an expert at Aikido or JiuJitsu (because you are asking this question) and you won't be able to do any advanced techniques like atemi(striking) or throwing... if you are an expert you wouldn't be asking the question... so just become an expert then you'll know! But you step in and to the side at the same time you extend him beyond his balance taking his balance, strike the side of his head or neck, then you can apply any number of hundreds of Aikido techniques like throwing him forward, down, to the back, or you can take his back and choke him... first thing is to be aware and enlightened so you never get into a fight in the first place. That's the goal of Aikido is to be so enlightened that you never get into a fight. If you get into a fight you are not doing Aikido.

@@VenturaIT @Ventura IT it sounds like enlightenment is over rated. I need to protect myself from being attacked where avoidance is impossible. Maybe martial arts should serve my needs instead of the other way around. Where do you get the idea that the goal of aikido is to not get into fights at all? That sounds like something they tell children in the Japanese grade school system. Do you really expect people to listen to that? You have to admit it is pretty pretentious sounding and rather naive.

Guys: I appreciate the information you're putting out on this Aikido channel. But camerawork with all the shakes and poor lighting is diminishing your presentation.

For reference, do it first without all the talking, and then explain it. I've passed on G-d-knows-how-many videos about discovering dark matter/energy lately simply because they won't just tell me the news up front.

I disagree. No one can block or slip the sucker punch. none. By the time you see the punch coming you are too late. The sucker punch never comes as a haymaker, it comes from down bellow ..from the waste. Its a short fast hook to the jaw and you never know if the opponent is left handed or right handed ..it could come from any side. The best advise: dont argue nose to nose...keep your distance from the opponent.
